    Boost Gauge Problem

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just had my AWE Vent gauge (original version) installed.

Wife is on her way home with it and she says the needle is rattling and buzzing like crazy, even at idle...

Did they forget to install the anti-buzz "t" fitting or is something else wrong? She says that the box has a barbed "t" fitting in it, so it wasn't installed.

What does the "anti-buzz" fitting do anyway?

Can someone post a pic of where it is suppose to go so I can put it in?

    Thanks!

UGGH the anti buzz fitting does just that... makes it not buzz.

btw, why didn't you just install it yourself ?

    Re: Boost Gauge Problem

Would have been better off doing it myself, but wanted it done quickly...

She just got home with it...

At idle, the needle just shakes - will the "t" or anti-buzz get rid of the shake? Not sure about the buzz cuz of the exhaust and sub (lol).

    Thanks.

    Re: Boost Gauge Problem

Well, took a look under the hood and there was indeed a "t" fitting installed, but not the one supplied by AWE. I bought the gauge and all components used from someone on this forum... could the gauge be bad?

Or do I need a bigger "t" fitting because the line was stretched from previous owner - he said he only used it for a short time. Would an inline fuel filter thing help? Saw some anti-buzz from ECS too??? I don't think the problem is buzz, more so the needle shake.

Please help, needle shake is driving me crazy!

    Re: Boost Gauge Problem

Should I add the two way restrictor from ECS? Gotta stop the needle, might come out of the gauge.

    Re: Boost Gauge Problem

The anti-buzz fitting is really just a restrictor to slow down the airflow, so that the air pulses get evened out. If you pull off the fitting, you should see a very small orifice through it, so you should be able to verify that it is an anti-buzz fitting and not just a hose connector. Sometimes the anti-buzz/restrictor component is built into the tee fitting, so perhaps check that too.

    Re: Boost Gauge Problem

Try unplugging the hose from the gauge and putting it in all the way, just to make sure. That'll cause the needle shake and buzzing too.

Thank you - I reconnected to the back of the gauge and the needle shake went away.

It is still buzzing when boost hits 12 to the peak of 14. BTW, is spike at 14 normal for GIAC stage 1?

Do I need to order a different 't" fitting and try it again to eliminate the buzzing?

I meant to say, I added the little 2 way fitting and it fixed all my problems..not the T-fitting.

This might be a stupid question, but you install the two way fitting after the "t" connection and between the gauge, right?

As it was currently set up, the hose runs on top of the mani - will it melt? Not sure why the shop didn't hook it under the resevoir?

Yes you cut the hose between the Gauge, and the T connection and just plug in the 2way piece and everything should be good to go..

Nah it wont melt..dont worry about it..

    Re: Boost Gauge Problem

Anyone recommend a particular "anti buzz" two way restrictor? I know ECS has one and so does PODI... is there a generic equivalent at the hardware store?
