    Intercooler ducting

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I now have the IPP large intercoolers, 59% larger than RS4, 68% larger than OEM S4/A6 2.7T. I removed the fog lights once I noticed how bad they block the intercoolers. I also cut some vents into the fender liner plastic since they are not vented. But I feel like some duct work & shrouds would help direct air at them. Am I supposed to have ducts in there stock and maybe just missing them? Doesn't look like it..

Anybody know of any ducts or shrouds? Or maybe tried making some? Suggestions welcome..

    Thx

    Re: Intercooler ducting

I have thought about modding my fog grills like an intake and direct the air to the intercooler. But I havent got around to seriously looking at what it would take. But there is some stock plastic parts that feed air into the intercooler. When I bought my car it didnt have the fog light grills so I just left them open. Just my 2 cents

The best you can do is modify the original ones and get any obstructions out of the way (fogs/grills/wiring). The other possbile solution is to modify an RS6 bumper to fit your V6 style fenders and gain the added IC opening size. I know it can be done but, it's definitely a fair amount of work to blend it in and still look correct.

    Re: Intercooler ducting

Already did as much as possible to let air at them. I removed the fogs & brackets and I cut the slots open more. There was a section in the middle that was filled in behind the slots so I cut that open more. Looks the same from outside but now it flows. Going to post some pics.

    Fog blocking intercooler-

The part I cut away in the grille-

    No fog blocking intercooler-

    No fog 2-

    Re: Intercooler ducting

Hi all.. I am new to the forum and new owner of a 2001
Audi A6 2.7t 6-speed. I just came out of a 98 bmw 540i sport with a 6-speed. I've owned BMW's m whole life but it was time for something new. I have to say... I'm loving it!

With that being said.. on to business. I too have the IPP intercoolers. I was wondering if there is enough space behind the intercoolers to mount 2 small puller cooling fans, well one fan per intercooler? I just bought the car and have not had any time to puller the car apart. So please forgive me for asking a question that may have already been addressed. I have 2 k04 turbos and a host of other goodies in the trunk to install as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Moon

    Re: Intercooler ducting

Fans shouldn't be neccessary. I would buy a set of the RS6 fender liners and that will create plenty of air flow out of the back of the intercoolers. This will promote airflow in as well.

    Re: Intercooler ducting

Anyone know where I can get the vented fender liners & if they will still fit a narrow body? Right now I just have some pretty clean holes cut in the back with some black mesh behind it..

    Re: Intercooler ducting

The RS6 fender liners aren't made for the V6 body but, they are very simple to trim. You only have to trim the edges where it contacts the fender lip. The inner and bottom edges are going to fit the subframe contours.

    They should be $30-40ea.

i think i remember seeing a DIY for putting an RS6 style fender vent into your stock a6 fenders. cant remember if it was here or on AW. if i remember correctly it consisted of taking something like a household air conditioning duct grate (where the ac comes out of the wall) and molding it into your existing fenders. ill look around this weekend to see if i can find that.

    EDIT: here's the linky

I just did that mod yesterday, I drove 15 miles to work and the hood felt as cool as it did when I left home.
