Dented SR tube, How bad will it effect gains if any? PICS!

I was bored and playing around in the garage yesterday and discovered a box of parts my brother stripped from his 350z after it was wrecked. He had a AEM Short Ram kit in it that was made oblong after the accident. Only one of the ends was effected.

I compared it to the curves of the plastic OEM tube and discovered it is a larger dia. by about .5 inch and matches its curves perfectly mounted in reverse.

I took a rubber mallet and worked the crimped end of the pipe to as close to a round tube as possible and was just wondering if it would effect any performance gains by using this end which would be the filter side.

    Thoughts?

    I'd say go for it.
It wouldn't be called tuning, if everybody tried the same things.

Yeah, maybe it will help smooth out your air flow like the dimples on a golf ball.

Yea, I may end up cutting off the crimped end leaving me with a shorty SRI.

I don't think it'd be a problem, but I don't think it would work that way.

The dimples on a golf ball create a small boundary layer of turbulent air to make the ball fly with less resistance through the open atmosphere (external flow). The same principles don't work in a ram tube like that (internal flow). Ideally, you'd want the tube to be smooth and dimple free, but I don't think you'd see any performance loss on a dent that size. Especially since it's a turbo car. You MIGHT notice something on a N/A engine, but since it's turbo, you won't notice anything.
