iPhone + what part # = mount in armrest cradle ??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've done a bit of searching, but Audi's own site even seems to ignore the phone cradle connection thing inside my armrest. (I've got the BT phone package.) Works with my iPhone just fine, but I was hoping to be able to (a) charge it and (b) make use of the antenna in the rear window. This thread at navplus lists the part number for the iPhone sled (8P0 051 435 GP), and this pdf seems to confirm it. I just called my local dealer's parts dept, and the guy said that it was an invalid part number, even if he removed the ending "GP". Anyone know anything about this or where to get these adapters?

edit: found on audi.de: this pdf. top of page 3 shows the above part number for the iPhone cradle, and shows a minimum OS version of 1.1.2, which was released in early November 2007.

What is Audi direct help? because it says that the iPhone cradle doesn't have that.

ok, so it took a couple extra days, but i finally made it to my stealership's parts desk. the guy seemed moderately helpful, and here's what he said, after calling ...someone (regional somethin?). the part definitely exists with that part number, but only in Germany (all of Europe?). there is a private dealer-only email address for european parts that he could try, but he's never had success with it. joec500, anything useful out of Riverside? i'll kick up a new thread in the OEM Euro & US Spec Forum linking back to this one and see if any of those vendors can help.

Just my luck HTC has no compatible phones. I may have to switch to an iPhone for just this feature. Oh well, sprint has been pissing me off ever since I switched over from the nextel network to sprint almost 2 years ago. Come september it'll be time for them to pay up or screw off!

Keep us posted with what you find!

the drawbacks (and this may already be in the thread) are as follows:

    (1) you MUST ALREADY HAVE the bluetooth phone prep with the contacts in the armrest
    (2) this DOES NOT transmit music. it's only phone.

seriously, you're better off getting the proclip/DICE solution unless you really need the car's antenna to augment your cell signal. proclip/dice is about $250, plus you get to actually SEE the phone's screen and use it as a turn-by-turn nav solution (enabled with the 3.0 update tomorrow)/music player/etc.

At this point I'm not even going to bother with this cradle. With the iPhone 5 due out this year, which I may upgrade to and how expensive this cradle is, probably best to wait and see if they manufacture a cradle for the next gen phone which is rumored to be a different size.

Skip the cradle... The only advantage to is is you get to use the external antenna for better signal. It doesn't link it to your radio, and I don't even know if it will charge the phone. You also will run the risk of breaking your arm rest handle (search that you will see that they seem to easily break). I also don't like to remove the cover off of my phone, which this would also require.

Ok. I also believe it uses the external antenna to aid in reception...

If you have a car model of Generation III - then are the mobile phones tied exclusively via Bluetooth.

You can here see which car model is which generation (German PDF): Handy-Adapter für "Handyvorbereitung mit Bluetooth®"

I have the cradle for the iPhone 3/3G and it worked great. It charged my phone and boosted signal via the sharkfin and I could still control it using using the steering wheel controls which has handled by the bluetooth adapter. the cradle had nothing to do with the steering wheel controls.

The cradle is for charging and enhanced reception via the sharkfin. Nothing else.

Integration with the stereo and steering wheel is via Bluetooth. Docked in the cradle or loose, you will get the same functionality.

I bought a used 3Gs cradle from the classifieds and use it with a dock extender cable. Works fine with the iPhone 4s. Also charges iPad2 but for some reason, not iPad1. The cradle power is switched so no need to worry about draining the battery when the ignition is off.

Like someone else mentioned, the cradle is a pain if you have a case on your iPhone and personally, I can't stand driving stick with the armrest down. Given how easily the armrest breaks, I didn't want to bother with that either.

    Works as expected for me.

My 3G cradle boosts antenna signal on my old 3G phone and charges it, as long as the battery is above 20%. If the battery is below 20%, for some reason there is only a 50/50 chance that the cradle will charge the 3G phone. The 3G cradle will charge my 4G phone, but it will not boost its signal. I only bought the cradle for the boost in signal, but now it's become obsolete. So has my OEM bluetooth with the 4G phone. The car's hardware/firmware technology is now obsolete to the the new phones that keep coming out. I may just get this from Wilson, http://www.wilsonelectronics.com/Pro...on)&Category=7, and mount it in the armrest. The connect wire for the Audi Shark Fin antenna is already in the armrest, so all I have to do is tap into it. THis way I will have a more universal set up for any model phone. This will also allow me to connect an MP3 to RNS-E input, like a DICE, since nothing connects to the bottom of the phone on the Wilson cradle.
