I was looking intothis a lot and am considering doing this to my 2004 a6 2.7T but I had a couple questions before I do anything potentially harmful to my car. Since the a6 doesn't have the vented fenders I'd have to cut out the holes into the fender lining. A good example I saw was here:
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...8T-Air-Box-Mod but a bunch of you guys have made comments about water getting into your box and soaking the filter.
If I remove the lower portion of the box, cut holes into the fenderl ining on that section, and then use insulation tape and a mesh filter between the fender lining and the airbox (with that lower portion cut out) do you think that would be an adequate cover to help prevent water and debris from entering the box and damaging my filter or would it not make much difference moisture wise? Also, in general, those of you who have done this to your a6 - are you pleased with the sound it makes afterwards? I'm hoping it helps the car's sound somewhat, but the biggest reason for doing this is to help increase airflow.
Also as a thought before I do this: one of my next steps is to get a boost gauge and turbo controller to help monitor and control the twin turbos a bit since upgrading the turbos is a huge PITA. Adding a boost gauge and being able to have a bit more control over the OEM turbo's is more than enough for what I need and what I'd like for now. If you do this mod, would that potentially cause any harm or conflict with that new system when it is in place? If it does, I could just replace the airbox with anotehr OEM and get new fender lining worst comes to worst...
Thanks for takin the time to help out,
