Calling All Unicorns - B7 A4 Avant 6 Speed Manual Titanium

Some other recent threads have gotten me thinking about how many of these unicorns are owned by Audizine members. I saw a similar post to this for the B7 25 Years of Quattro S4.

I don’t have one, yet... I did test drive a black Ti 6MT avant last year though. I wish I was in a position to buy it at the time, but sadly I was test driving it for a friend of a friend.

Well, for one, a non-Titanium package avant doesn't have a Titanium package...

Its a bit worse for wear right now, a few years of deferred maintenance will do that, but the engine will be reborn soon. Got 99% of the parts stockpiled, just need to start carving out some time to rebuild...

The Titanium package was an option offered for the 2007-2008 model year. The option was only $500 itself, but it required you to have also picked the S-Line package option as well.

In addition to everything you got with the S-Line package, the Titanium package gave you: black roof rails, black window surrounds, black grill surround, 15 spoke Ronal DTM package style wheels in gray, black headliner, piano black interior trim.

I think that’s everything. Someone else pipe in if I missed something.

Avant here. No TI package. Dont care if it has it. The way my car is set up. Im very happy with all the mods I . I can out factory TI package all day, everyday.

So i see now it's a different optics package. Kinda distinguishes the car, but i think the " unicorn" term might be bit of a stretch.

The black window surround is a nice touch but not really a fan of the wheels.

believe me. If I wanted a TI. I could afford & bought 1 for the $$$$ I invested in this 1 ........ I gotta fix my hood gap thou. The last shop that installed a hood cable for me screwed my adjustment up. I just didnt get a chance to it yet...

Keep in mind, this configuration (avant, manual, titanium) often had production numbers in the 10's, often lower depending on color. The Unicorn title definitely applies for these.

Agreed...one guy who stopped me on the street said he has never seen a 3.2 manual TI Avant before, and he claimed to have owned 9 Audi's over the years

i guess... not to create a great debate but ..

to me unicorn would mean rarity= desirability , that is just not the case here for the masses , just for a select few who will pay for it . That's great and all for this looking for one and are willing to pay to get one , but for most people its meh ! its an avant with black trim and a manual , i would walk by without a second thought ... not many people would walk by a unicorn ;)

But i get its a desirable car for some in a Niche way ! i just dont think different and rare is the same as desirable.

Im not saying its not worth a premium to that niche market to those who want it , and im glad it is available to them, but just not the average audi buyer.

Not trying to argue, but I can't wrap my head around the tiny visual differences being worth that kind of premium. You can make a base model look like it has the titanium package yourself cheaply and easily (granted you already have the black bottom half of the interior). And I'm not saying it would be okay to call that a Ti car either. I understand someone paying a premium for having such a rare package, but not just for black trim, the wheels, and headliner.

Black headliners (and black sunroof control modules) aren’t easy/cheap to find. And the piano black trim isn’t cheap either, though it’s not necessarily hard to replicate if you have the wood trim and some paint/wrap skills. The front grill is the same deal. The one thing that’s really hard to replicate is the roof bars.

This whole argument is really tedious however so I’m not going to continue it other than to say you both have your own opinions and that’s totally fine.
