2018 A6. While changing the battery, can I provide power for memory saving using a 12v source into
the 12v accessory outlet?

I was going to use a 12v output of a lithium ion jumper.

I've charged the battery under the hood in my A4 through the cigarette lighter to get the car started when the hood was stuck closed. You would have to find a spot where the power is constant because the outlets may not be connected to the battery all the time unless in accessory mode. Went to run my tire pump a few weeks back and the trunk accessory outlet didn't work unless in accessory or the car was running.

Many folk on AZ report that they change their battery on C7 cars without using any trickle charger and do not lose memory (maybe Audi started using NVRAM). Are you sure you need to do this?

Not sure about the non-volatile memory. Being a 2018 (built more than six years ago), I am guessing that the odds are less so. I already have the jump starter, so I figured I'd play it safe. It's the wife's car, so there is no room for messing it up.

Had my battery disconnected for an extended period of time when I did the timing chains. When I turned the car on after repairs it had the correct date and time as well as all my radio presets. No issues at all.

Unnecessary. Just change battery, you won’t lose anything.
