Anyone else ever notice the A7 doors / hood / front quarter panels are made of non magnetic material? I tried to put a Community Watch magnet on the side of the car the other night, then tried to hang a magnetic shop light under the hood and nothing would stick, except on the roof, rear quarter panel, and hatch lid. Just caught me by surprise.

Pretty sure the panels are aluminum

Yes. Even my C6 had aluminum panels. Maybe not as much as a C7, but fenders an hood at least.

Wow, thank you for all that info! Makes a lot of sense now - wouldn’t have guessed they used so much aluminum, but anything to bring the weight down, especially given the superior strength-to-weight ratio of aluminum.

If it were steel even the mighty RS7 motor would struggle moving it around, nevermind "just" the V6 . LoL

Exactly! It’s a heavy car as it is & the V6 is certainly no slouch. Hard to imagine having an extra 191 lb-ft of torque on tap.

Back when the C7 first came out, the amount of aluminum used in it was a big deal. VW had a leg up on others being able to create really sharp creases in alumimum panels too (sideline, hood).
