Hi
I am planning on buying a 2013 A6 3.07 with APR stage 2 , upgraded suspension, well maintained, PCV , thermostat etc done.
But owner said he got a secondary air injection fault recently, anyone know if this is something easy to fix or better pass of this issue ...how hard is this to replace?

Thanks!

Not sure if this is the same issue the car that you're looking at has, if so its fairly involved. I think there may be an extended warranty on certain SAI issues with the 3.0T, search in the B8 S4 forum as well as that's more active than here

Do you live in an emissions area?

It has no effect on drivability.

If the car is tuned then they will likely deny any warranty claim on the secondary air

No I don't. I live in Texas.

Ok. It's a 2013 with more than 120k miles, it won't be under warranty anyway correct?

From what I've seen, people have mentioned it has to be less than 120k miles/193k kms, though the TSB only mentions it's applicable to 15,000 miles or above. I'd maybe call Audi of America and see if they will cover it, especially if its just slightly beyond the 120k mileage.

I have the Code from time to time, but won't bother wasting money on that. The only thing it does is adding more air in the cats when the car is cold so it can get better emissions. It is really tedious to clean these and Audi are asking alot of money for it( they have a special Tool that uses Water)

Ok yeah..it seems odd that they use pressure water to clean carbon build..I guess I can try to replace the secondary pump, doesn't seem very hard to replace and if fixes the issue I'll call it good if comes back might try to take to the shop sometime in the future or get the jhm tune with the SAI delete, which could be silly because car comes with the APR stage 2 already....or just learn to live with it...😏

I'd bet the car will be quicker on the JHM software.

You think? Faster than APR?
Audi dealer here said won't cover SAI issue because vehicle has passed 120k miles ( vehicle has 128k miles)...😡

I would expect that if you had APR did a dragy run, then flashed over APR's software with the appropriate JHM. That the car would perform better.

An easy check you can do on the pump is to check resistance and it should measure under 4 ohms. If the pump doesn't function you will get a fault stored for both banks. If the hose has been disconnected from the pump you will also get faults stored on both banks. Very rarely would A6, A7 or even A8 models throw that code. I couldn't tell you why but it was more common to do secondary air cleans on S4, S5,Q5, and SQ5 models. Get the pump checked out and make sure it can be commanded on through an output test. I have personally witnessed people perform secondary air cleans just for the fault to still come back static because they didnt check the integrity of the pump.

Mine has that issue, once I flashed 034 stage 1 test pipe tune and did a cat delete, CEL was gone.
