View Full Version : Was TPMS not standard?

My 08 had it, but it was not listed on the window sticker as an option. My 07 does not appear to have it. At least, I don't see the antenna when I look underneath.

It’s not standard unless it is by region

Wikipedia says the law that mfgs had to include TPMS standard kicked in during 2008

I have a 2005.5 Avant which most of them basically came loaded. No TPMS on it.

Even my 2014 technik has no tpms, unless it is indirect measure but j have never seen a light come on

My 07 did not come with it. Makes changing wheels a lot easier!

Canada never set any standardized TPMS laws, USA did in 2007-2008.

If you don't have actual sensors it should tell you through indirect wheel speed that a tire is flat, likely you'd feel it before the dummy light.

Yea but any law passed IN 2007 or 2008 likely would have a warmup period for manufacturers to alter their assembly lines.

Either way my 2008 has it. I believe it was part of the Technology package? Availability and what options it came with will 100% vary by country/region.

My 2008 only had s-line and ti packages, but it did have tpms. My 2007 avant has s-line, ti, and nav, folding mirrors, homelink (tech package?) but no TPMS...

Weird. I don’t actually remember if my 2006 or 2004 A4s had TPMS. I don’t think my b6 did (not even sure if it was an option on the b6 tbh).

I should check my window sticker today and see if there is an entry for TPMS.

I'm mostly pissed bc I assumed it had it and I ordered sensors for some new wheels.

All it does is make a lot of noise in the winter time

I coded mine out for my winter wheels without TPMS. I still haven’t turned it back on though.

I love TPMS, of course I’ve never had issues with it so I don’t mind it.

I like it too. I wish I had it on my wagon.

I’ve got TPMS.

How do i check if i have it?

I took my spare wheel out to clean it the other day and noticed a noise as if something was inside the tyre rolling about. Read online it could either be the tyre pressure sensor or rubber balls that accumulate over time (which would be odd for a spare).

Let some pressure out of a tire and see if you get a tpms warning.

Look under your rear bumper for the antenna.

Or go through the DIS menu and see if the option to store tire pressures is listed.

Or just look at the stems, if you have OEM wheels. Metal valve stems indicate TPMS on the b7. Newer cars (b8.5) use an indirect measure through ABS module (ie wheel speed) so they have rubber valve stems but still have TPMS

that's likely what I have then , im gonna let some air out and go for a drive. I wonder what pressure I would trigger at ? its testing time !!!!!

I know mine triggered at about 3psi low but what I'm not sure about is whether the system triggers based on a differential pressure between tires or all four going a bit low (or both). I also wonder if I increased the pressure by 3 or so psi in one over the set point if that would trigger the warning. Too many unknowns. I do know that when I had a blow out the system went crazy (but don't try that).

Mine triggered once at like 25 psi. Going to turn my TPMS off when I swap wheels. Have a pressure gauge in the car. Not hard to check each time I hit the gas station, etc...

well i know for a fact my B8 is indirect if it actually has it ( my b7 doesnt have it at all ) i am sure i would have to go very low before the abs sensor picked up a different angular velocity on the wheel.
