So my power steering pump went out today on my 2010 S4 after a few weeks of listening to it whine [headbang]. I have the Servotronic steering instead of the dynamic which may be more common. I have only 75,000 miles on the clock which is strange. Does anyone have experience changing it or have any DIY guides/advice? Also it's interesting that almost no one has the pump in stock other than the dealer here in MN. Should I take a leap of faith and get a reman?

What are the symptoms of it being dead?

Bump.
Any help on replacing the pump would be useful. I just don't understand how the pump is removed from the top. The clearance between the head and frame seems minimal. The workshop guide doesn't say how to do so either.
EDIT: Seems like the front clip has to be removed. Does anyone have any guides on how to do so? Please and thanks!

I can't yet speak for the B8 platform as I haven't had mine long, but putting the front in service position was pretty much a requirement for most any service on my B5 and B6.

Were you able to get this figured out? I have to do mine, and a grand at the local shop does not appeal to me.
