Can't calibrate suspension after doing VCDS procedure on 'dynamic'. Please help.

Hey gang, thought I started this thread before, and was posting on my MMI thread. Geez. Didn't think I could get any stupider, but guess I am. And I start a 3rd chemo regimen on Monday. If I make it, will end up barely smarter than a freaking dog at this pace. Ha ha. Oh well.

Anyway, to make my story short, lowering the suspension while trying to perfectly leveling the car, and it just doesn't work AT ALL, so DO NOT attempt that folks. I tried to adjust 1.6mm, and ended up with 11mm difference; obviously Audi uses some kind of algorithm, not straight up measurements, as it's obvious by the fact you need to ADD to the adaptations in order to lower the car, which makes no sense in terms of it being the measurement from middle of wheel to fender edge. Also worth mentioning, the air suspension system is not that accurate either, so it further makes no sense trying to level it, since the gaps keep changing. I proved this by switching from auto to dynamic, where the differences changed as much as 4mm. At that point decided to forget about leveling the car, and went back to redo the measurements... but forgot to put suspension back to auto[headbang]. When I got to calibration, it bombed. Tried to repeat the procedure perfectly (in auto, obviously), and this tiime as soon as I clicked on 'calibrate', got an immediate message 'ERROR: Request sequence error'. On the third time, my stupid laptop's touchpad activated 'start up to reference level production', rather than 'start up to reference level', but don't know if it screwed something else, but was getting the same error before, so who knows. At any rate, just posted the (edited) full scan on the following post, where 4 out of the 5 faults on module 34 are typical errors listed on VCDS, including 'no end-of-line programming', which seems to be the main issue in my case (programming got corrupted or something). Everything was done exactly as instructions say the last 2 times, and with a fully charged battery and a 5A charger hooked to it. It took me less than 3 minutes to complete the procedure, so I'm absolutely certain it's not any voltage issue. Have several other 'soft' faults (including an ABS one), due to module not being calibrated, plus the obvious dash ones (red susp error, adaptive headlights/ACC/brake-guard not active, and MMI shock/suspension warning below the grayed out 'raise'). The module lost its coding too, but I already coded it exactly like it was before, and the not coded error still appears. Guess because it's not calibrated. Anyway, had an appt today at dealer, but they canceled me until tomorrow. Hope an expert could help, to avoid spending $300+ I don't have, and avoid any warranty issue. Since I have chemo on Monday, and don't know if I'll get out of it, don't want to potentially leave my wife with another headache, so want to get it fixed tomorrow. Hope somebody knows what could be wrong. At this point, anything other than 'erase all adaptations' couldn't get any worse, right? He he. So I'm willing to experiment if it makes sense. Thanks gang.

i did it on dynamic once on accident. i just closed vagcom, started over on auto and everything was OK. sorry dont have any other info for you. hope someone knows

Just get it reset by Audi and get lowering links. Mine would give me constant errors using vagcom to lower. Just gave up in the end and done the lowering links. No software conflicts since.

Hey Barritia, did you also have all the errors I did? And how much did Audi charge you? Just to know. Salesman told me master tech told him like $300. Seems excessive, but just hope it's not more than that. Curious to have a comparison. Also curious if they flashed your ECU and everything, or just the level control (34) module. Anyway, the first time I did the lowering went well, so although I'll be a bit nervous (especially due to my stupid laptop's touchpad), plan to do it again, but this time just adding 17 to the factory figures. If the tech at Audi changes the numbers, will probably put them back to factory, and just add 17. Will tell him to use those numbers, so he doesn't charge for all the measuring crap, but hope he accepts that.

Flyfishing, wish it had been the case with mine. Attempted it 3 times, and a 4th after using the car, in case something got reset or something, but it didn't. Same thing: Everything perfect until calibration, when it just craps out. My issue is since calibration doesn't go thru, the adaptation figures get reset to zero every time I attempt it. So all the first steps are for nothing, since they're deleted already. The only step that does something is 'start up to reference level', which puts the car basically at 'raise' height, which is higher than comfort. That's how I had to drive the other day, but although red warning says no more than 35, I drove it at freeway speeds with zero issues. Dealer is like 30 miles away, so will have to drive on highway again, but car rides like a brick; shocks are harder than dynamic. It basically feels like my ex-Cayman GTS with sport suspension. Seems like I'll have to take it to dealer, but will check the forum again. Wish I wasn't that stupid, and posted this 2 days ago, when I did on my MMI thread[headbang]. My issues were different. I would get everything setup on level ground and it would go great. Then after a hour or at times a few days it would give me errors saying auto breaking and adaptive cruise control will not work. Tried everything I could think off and could never get it to work right. Put lowering links on and zero issues.

After a day and $352 wasted, car is back to normal now. Ahole dealer charged me 3 hours instead of the documented 2 that the tech took (and probably with plenty of breaks. Ha ha), but nothing I ccould do... except never to take my car there again unless I absolutely have to, which is what I always do anyway[:D]. And yes, won't even take it for the 'free' oil change; much rather do it myself. At any rate, supposedly the module's programming was wiped out somehow, so similar to what happens with 'delete all adaptations', it seems. I'm pretty sure I won't forget to set it to 'auto' next time. Ha ha. Will try shortly to lower it again. Wish me luck. He he. By the way, apparently it was just the suspension module that was flashed, since all my other VCDS settings are still there. Have a great weekend gang.
