The caliper is different between those that fit the 320 vs. the 345 rotors. I don’t see how you could use calipers designed for a smaller rotor with the 345mm. You can see the difference in design to allow for the larger rotor from the 3.0 (top picture) vs. the 2.0.

Where did you end up ordering yours from?
Also, is the Porsche logo a sticker on the caliper that can peel off or is it painted on?

They do look real nice in flat black.

The Porsche is part of the finish; it is not a sticker.

For people that powdercoated their calipers yellow. what yellow did you use? I've been searching the color code for the brembo yellow and so far it looks like people have suggested RAL1016 or WA300N, there is also porsche canary yellow...

I figured I seek more input and ask any yellow caliper owners what they used--did you use either of these?

I would suggest talking to your “coater”, if you’re really aggressive and put a lot of heat into your brakes the color may change, so take that into account.

a couple PC shops I talked with did mention that issue. One suggested ceramic coating but that makes it a matte finish.

I don't plan to be aggressive but may do a track day once or twice a year.

OK dumb question on these as I am about to install soon. When swapping over the calipers, what is the best method as to making the smallest mess when removing the brake lines. Do I remove the line from the stock caliper first and then bolt to the new caliper or do I remove the line at the car connection hard line first?

Ok so for about 500-600 i can just slap on the calipers with stock everything else, grab some ceramic pads and i'm set?

That seems to simple and begs the question, WTF are some of the tuners (i think ECS? maybe not) doing offering "kits" for the q5 brakes for ~$2k??

The 5-600 is for the calipers. The 2k kits also come with rotors (some are 2 piece), pads, lines, and fluid.

Reassembled the q5/macan calipers... looking really good.

For anyone interested, here are two tips:

1) instead of using brake fluid to coat/lube seals, boots, pistons, I used silicone grease. I believe it is not as messy and easier to clean up
2) if calipers are taken apart, which isn't necessary, torque the bolts holding them together to ~70 ft-lbs when reassembling - I also used a little bit of blue loctite too.

If you remove the line from the caliper, but not the car, you will have to rotate the caliper onto the brake line as you cant rotate the brake line while its still attached to the car. It can be done but its a total PITA.

Use a piece of wood or similar to slightly depress the brake pedal which will help keep fluid in the lines once you undo the line. Use the power seat to pin the wood in place.

Dust is much less than stock. I'm probably going to try something different next time. I had 5.0 pads on the original calipers and now on these. Initial bite is much less aggressive but the overall braking is very linear

Yes it’s very noticeable especially coming from a4 stock calipers

The bite is more noticeable and the braking is more sturdy at higher speeds.

Stoptech SS Brake Lines (950.33016) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What rear brake pads are you using along with the Hawk HPS 5.0 up front? When shopping for brake pads up front, I assume that you can shop for a Q5 or Macan 3.0 V6 right?
Are you using your old rotors or get them turned when you installed the new calipers?

So far I've gathered to do all new Macan calipers, rotors, & fluids just so I have all new stuff in one shot. Haven't picked out pads yet as I'm trying to figure out which rear pads to pair with the front Macan calipers.

I have Hawk HPS 5.0 on the rear as well.with these 4-pot brembos you have a lot of options actually (thread link below). But, yes, I used the Q5 fitment for searching for pads. I've been very pleased with the Hawks and would definitely recommend them.

https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/677496-Some-exciting-brake-pad-options-for-the-Q5-Brembo-BBK-retrofit

I'm using new rotors (stoptech Cryo slotted, bought them off moddiction) but you can use stock rotors.

http://moddiction.com/stoptech/stoptech-brake-rotors-cryo-slotted/g-95302.aspx - great price and free shipping!

I've disassembled my calipers to be powder coated, but nicked one of the caliper pistons on the top edge. The piston bores inside the calipers look fine after reinserting the piston to air compress out all the other pistons. Anything to worry about here after I reseal? I've searched quite a bit for piston replacements and all I see is a full set for a Q5 for $200.

I think you should be fine... The seal ring contacts the piston further down the piston's side so the nicks shouldn't impact that.

Finally got to re-bleed the brakes and WOW, major improvement. Pedal is A LOT firmer now, brakes feel like the immediately initiate once I press the pedal.

So as the old saying goes, if you think you're done bleeding your brakes, keep bleeding! To make sure you get all the air out.

Does anyone have detailed pictures of exactly where they clipped the Macan scoop? Specifically, a picture from the back side would probably really help me.

I got the left one on but broke one of the clips trying to do a test fit. And I'm not sure I've got it in the right spot as it seems rather floppy and is likely to spin backward once I'm up to speed so I'm going to have to reinstall it anyway (and brake another cheap plastic clip).

You don't need new pistons unless you scratch them badly. You can also reuse your seals & dust boots if don't puncture them.
Back up seal & dust boot rebuild kits are nice to have on hand and available from Centric. Part #143.62059

Yes about an inch. Although now looking at things I think they are a waste. There’s no air getting to them through the solid fender liner and solid lower cowel.

Hard to say, but it sure looks that way. I mean, it might be redirecting swirls of air a bit but it'd be hard to know without measurements.

Does anyone have access to a wind tunnel???

It definitely helps to install naca ducts on the underside to direct more (smooth) air.

Without NACA ducts or a way to move air through the front bumper and through the fender liner, the scoops wont be seeing any airflow.

Just finished my install of these calipers and wanted to share a couple of extra notes.

1. I've been following this thread since almost the get and do not remember anyone ever mentioning that the new calipers have two bleeder valves. I bled them both multiple times after install. I'm wondering if maybe some of you that were complaining about pedal feel did not see or use the other bleeder.
2. Either I do need to bleed them a couple of additional times or the EBC Yellow Stuff pads really don't have as good cold bite as a less aggressive pad because I do have additional pedal travel before I get the braking force I expect.
3. Pic below, but for the 1 other person out there that might be running 18" Enkei RPF1's on their B8 S4 on the track, the wheels clear the caliper just fine.
4. I used the stock S4 brake splash shields, just took some tin snips to them to remove about 2 inches from both sides!

I know one person here did, but for powder coating the Porsche calipers is it generally necessary to separate the two halves of the caliper body? (The reverse torx bolts)
The internet seems to think that’s a bad idea. I’m inclined to agree after getting an idea of how much torque there is on those.

Does the powder coating come out better if I did separate them?

By separating them it’s easier to paint and or powder coat (pistons and boost are easier to remove this way). It’s not mandatory but life easier for the person doing the work.

As well as some shops won’t powder coat them if they’re not apart, or you paid for them to dissembled and assemble them!

I'm thinking of upgrading to either this set up, or the A6/A7 upgrade. Does anyone know if the A6/A7 356mm clear the stock 18's? i'm assuming ill need a spacer. If it doesn't clear, i'll go with the Q5 set up instead.

They seem simple enough, but I haven't gone all the way through yet.
1. Blow out the pistons with a 2x4 piece in the middle.
2. 10 mm wrench to remove connecting tube.
3. 11 mm wrench for removing bleeder
4. Picks for removing boot and gaskets
5. 7mm e torx for removing connecting bolts of the two halves.
(I think there's a tiny gasket between them too)

.... I haven't done step 5 yet.

UPDATE:--------------------------------------------------------
I've now completely disassembled them. Here's what it took:
Beginning:
113659

Steps

Blow pistons partially out with compressed air (rubber gun tip). Keeping the pistons in until enough pressure builds to push them all out is the tricky part. Use the 2x4, but I found it was also handy to have a set of pistol grip clamps. Sometimes the pistons can blow completely out of the dust boot - it's probably not the best, but seems to not be a big problem. It's possible to remove the dust boots first instead.
small flathead screwdriver to wedge up the dust boots (its a hard plastic on the outside edge)
10mm wrench to remove connecting tube
11mm wrench to remove bleed valves
12mm e torx with torque wrench (something with leverage) to remove the bolts holding the two halves together. I estimated somewhere around 70-80 ft lbs of torque on them.

113657

Now, I noticed that the color of the pistons was slightly different between the two sides - one side was slightly lighter and the other was darker. The "darker" pistons go in the carrier (inside) side of the caliper.
113658
I then later noticed that the bottoms of the pistons are different as well. So, you probably shouldn't mess that up during reassembly.
Lighter pistons on the right, darker on the left.
113656

I next did the second caliper disassembly in a different order to see if it was any easier. I removed the connecting tube, then removed the two bolts to have the caliper split. Then blew the pistons out. (then boots/gaskets and bleed valve). It was a bit easier, but also more sketchy on the blowing pistons out. For the love of god, don't blow them out facing upward! [eek]

Here was the tools I used
113655
Hopefully this is helpful for someone (like me) who is new at this.

I have one question remaining: I had ordered a rebuild kit off amazon in case I goofed one of the boots or rings. It was centric part number 143.62059.
I comes with an additional tiny ring/gasket, but I can't see anything in/on this caliper that would hide that little ring?? Maybe just not exactly the right kit?

I also reused the mounting hardware, and for brake fluid I used Rbf660 fluid (had a bunch left at my buddies shop from the day before) so it was free

I hear most people do the SS lines any reasons u didn’t?

If you’ve taken them apart and didn’t tear any boots heck yea reuse them, yes you’ll grease them! They’re brand new still!

Most people just to SS lines, because the rubber lines expand. I haven’t felt any bad pedal feel at all with the rubber lines and not at the track all the time to warrant them! So it was pointless to me personally!

Good fluid, great pads, a properly bleed brakes you’ll be perfectly fine!

My understanding is that yes, you want a silicone based lubricant for the boots, rings and pistons.
This would be one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L1LV9F6/

However, it can be very difficult to tell what ones are actually silicone based. And if it isn't silicone based it will swell up the rubber parts and cause problems. Many of the "brake lubricants" are actually intended for use on non-rubber parts (slider pins, pad backs, etc). As an example, the Permatex green lubricant is not ok for use around the pistons (will swell the rubber).

Another option is to side-step that completely and just use some extra brake fluid to lubricate (old-school).

Placing an order now on the Rbf660 fluid, question:

Can you use that fluid on stock brake (My rear brakes)
if works on front and rear is 500ml enough or 1L would be best?

Thanks

Also, you highlighted the mounting side of the caliper not the wheel side.

I'd also recommend spacers. shaving off the calipers makes me nervous--it has to be perfectly straight or the pads might end up being misaligned on the rotor. I'd also be concerned about the structural integrity of the shaved caliper--might be impacted some.

You shave it there to move the caliper inboard 3mm and you're no longer lined up on your rotor. Plus like others said thats a structural area. No go.

5mm would make the tire hit the fender directly if I were to take a dip whereas now it slide under/inside the fender

With 5mm spacers the wheel clears with the calipers , so it’s good on that end.
My concern is the tire being pushed out 5mm, a dip and the fender will drop down directly on the tire causing the fender overtime to be messed up.

The FMSI number for the Macan calipers is D1663, which corresponds to an EBC pad of DPx2168.
However there are 2 other FMSI's that are very close - probably just as usable: D1600 and D1165. Those EBC pads are DPx2070 and DPx1908, respectively.

Below are the screenshots from the EBC online catalog (https://ebcbrakes.com/Assets/ecatalogues/2016_USA_Automotive_Catalogue/USA_Automotive_Catalogue_2016.html) showing the dimensions of the different FMSI and pad comparison

Additionally, here's the 3 FMSIs in a comparison view I found on Brembo's website.

118844

Finally, the pricing of these from ECS tuning a while back - to give you an idea of relative price of each of these sets.
118845

Anyone can do the cross-referencing for other pad manufacturers (especially when you have an FMSI number for them) - I just did EBC because I was after yellowstuff pads this time. I spent a lot of time trying to figure this out (before I had all this stuff physically), just didn't get around to posting it up. Now I have a good reason!

Like I said, I put on the yellowstuff DP42168R this past weekend and they fit perfect.

My 2cents: I’ll never go Yellow Stuff ever again. They are too noisy/dusty and take too much time to heat up on the street and are Not designed to survive medium/hard track use.
I’ve delaminated too many sets on my old WRX to chalk it up as “bad luck”. As much as I would’ve liked them to work for my needs, they didn’t.

I clean my wheels twice a week -
I did a test yesterday clean them and drove today wheels were covered in dust thickness.
Do u have the link to the Akebono I’ve seen a lot on google for rears only though

I know u mentioned there is a how to bed brakes in this thread but I can’t find it , which page is it on? Or is there a site for how to?

25 to stop, 40 to stop, 60 to stop 80 to stop. Firm brake but not enough for ABS. The most important point is do it in a place where you can stop and then immediately start driving; don't keep the caliper on the rotor, and don't engage the parking brake. Brake pad deposits can be left on a hot rotor which is (made up statistic inbound) 99% what "warped rotors" really are. Get moving after each hard brake so air can naturally cool the rotor.

I've been reading through all of the Q5 Brembo threads and have not been able to find 1 piece of crucial information...

What are the torque specs for bolting these on??? The Brembo instructions give a spec but say to confirm with Audi first. Audi gives a spec for the caliper and caliper carrier, but I'm not sure which one would apply to these as there is no carrier. Not even ECS has a torque spec for these.

Any help would be appreciated!

The 21mm bolt that attaches the new caliper to the spindle is spec'd at 145 lb ft. It's a bear to get that much if you don't have a lift. Turn the wheel to get a better angle and more room in the wheel well.

Squeak issue AGAIN
I’ve started with
1-EBC Red stuff pads > crazy long ass squeak from 8mph to stop dragging on the brakes
2- Hawks ceramic > same result
3- Brembo oem metallic > same result

The squeak is super loud and embarrassing, I’ve read on Porsche forum a lot of Macan owners complained about it too.

At this point I’m thinking it could come from the rotors ? Any thoughts?
Rotors are Zimmerman
Any suggestions on brand/models?

Got a reply from ECS tuning saying two piece rotors (floating) would almost for certain stop the squeak on those 4 piston calipers . Apparently it’s a common symptom on one piece rotor
Thoughts?

I've got Apikol 2 piece rotors and I've never had a squeak (and I've got more than 80,000 miles on those rotors -- good steel makes a difference). Still loving the Porterfield pads as well. And I didn't have squeak with Hawk 5.0 pads either (but hated the 5.0 pads).

I have the Macan calipers, stop tech slotted rotors (S4 OE size) and stoptech street performance pads.
I only squeak first thing in the morning and it’s gone after 1 hard stop. Almost like 1 piston on each side needs to be pushed a little more than the other. After that I never hear the squeak

Does anyone have a good source for properly sized brembo decals for the q5/Macao caliper? I ran through this thread and only came across the brakecalipers.co.uk website link (down for maintenance) and a reference of the decal size of ~75mm to ~110mm

I’m assuming that a good size would be in the 3-3.5” range.
Please forward any web links that I can check out for purchasing these brembo decals.

Thank you all for your input!

I don’t see these numbers listed. Maybe these are an earlier version of the Macan calipers. Visually they look the same as the 123 and 124. I may pull the trigger to see if they fit.

These are the part numbers on the QR code tag on the calipers

In hunting for cheap Q5 calipers, a friend who was a Dodge parts manager told me to go looking for NAPA remanufactured Q5 calipers. I can get a set of those for like 200 bucks Canadian. Is there a reason folks round here aren't going that route?

They come ready to install. Though I would highly recommend trying to bench bleed them to save yourself some time bleeding them on the car.

SPho, did you ever find a solution? I installed my Macan calipers with EBC Red stuff pads a little over a week ago, and I'm having the same issue. I'm using Stoptech Cyro Rotors that have about 5K miles on them. Tried doing the aggressive brake pad break in procedure a couple of times after I noticed it squeak real loud like you described. It goes away for a day or so and then it happens every once in a while. It's super frustrating!

what rotors are those?

Also, has anybody did a test on Stock OEM B8/B8.5 calipers vs the Macan calipers? I just don't see the spread difference enough on the 4 piston (2 on each side) vs 2 piston (1 big ass piston each side) to see how it can benefit.

I mean, 6 piston, sure. More spread, and more coverage. But from the looks of it, two piston covers the same area that one single piston covers. And the brake pads aren't that long on our cars to make that much of a difference.

Just looks like they're trying to save money by doing 4 piston vs 2 giant pistons. Spread/coverage area being the same.
