I've asked in another forum so I should ask here too.......

Has there been any talk about this in this forum? I've searched here, another forum, and googled as well to see if any discussions are floating around. Either I suck at searching, or there just really hasn't been any solid content to go off of.

I'd like to get an idea if this is even an possibility for this platform, or a hopeless dream. What would be the main challenges in making something like this happen? I'm mechanically inclined, have pulled motors, and have experience with all internal upgrades on a VQ motor. Luckily, this would be more focused on a swap and not cracking the block open. However, aside from hardware challenges, and I'm sure the endless amount of wiring harnesses, and then the drivetrain, I assume software would be an issue too. I wonder if it would be utilizing an ecu from that platform, (S6, RS6, or the like) or if we could run the current ECU? So many questions. Then the challenge of getting the right tune for any upgrades....ie, APR.

Ideally, I'd love to swap in the 4.0tt and run the RS6 turbos with the software upgrade from APR. Then again, not limited to that particular motor, I'd even be happy with the one from the RS4.

Let's open this for discussion, I'm really curious and you guys are probably the best to go to with something like this to get some educated responses.

They said they can do it in a B8 S5 in the comments

Thanks, I remember seeing this vid now. I just shot them a message to see what other info I could gather from them on this swap. Keeping in mind that their donor car was an RS4 B8, I'm hoping there's more similarities there.

You realize how much one of these motors is going to cost right? I hope you do it!

I asked them about this. You'll be paying for the engine plus another $10-15k to get it installed.

Unfortunately, yes I do. Right now, it's just an idea and like to have. I'm in the data gathering stage right now to see feasibility of going this route. I'm really fond of the aspect of keeping the agility of the B8 S4 paired with the larger motor, and I keep circling back to that for some reason. Or else, I would have just sold this car and looked to pickup an S6 by now. I'm a huge fan of the C7.5 S6, don't get me wrong, but it's just a little too big for my liking and how I like to drive. Otherwise a fantastic family sized sedan.

I figure cutting cost with an S6 motor, and picking up the RS6 turbos and support mods would be the better route than a full blown RS6 motor. The install is where I would save a mountain of money, if I can get more deets on what all goes into it. I'm not scared to turn any bolts on a project like this.

More power to you man. Long term if I keep my S4 this is my plan as well depending upon how much S6 engines cost down the road. Like you I would've done an S6 but they're boats. Wasn't nearly as fun to drive. A tuned 4.0T in these cars would be bonkers. Breaking into the 9s would be feasible.

Yes, I'm too interested in this swap. Makes me wonder how that V8tt would fare with a manual tranny ala C5 RS6, I know 034 likes to do crazy projects on older cars but not sure on this B8 platform. I'm not liking this autonomous crap on new cars, more shit to break and repair cost will be thru the roof. I'll ask and post back.

That's a tight fit [o_o]

Honestly, I think bolting it in wouldn't be too much of an effort. Considering the 3.0t is based off the 3.2, I'm going to make an assumption the 4.0t is based off the 4.2. If that's the case, I think it's safe to assume aside from the engine and tranny from s6/s7, just add in the b8 4.2 subframe and tranny mounts. I do believe the s6/s7 tranny is the dl511 which I've been trying to find more information on without success, but I do believe it is similar to the dl501 (stronic) transmission. The physical I think would be the easy part but the electrical is where I would get lost on....

So how do you plan on not busting the tranny and dif with that engine?

Who ever does it, good luck. This won't be cheap. I'd expect 20k+ in parts and labor assuming you find a totalled donor to buy. Another 10k if you piecemeal the parts from Audi. It would be a toss up as to what would be cheaper, selling your S4 +20k for an S6 or doing this. The OP is very happy with the chassis and if he has a month downtime and the right shop to help then go for it. This isn't something anyone should be doing in their garage unless they have a particular set of skills....

I think this conversion will be the way to go as the S6 cars are coming down in residual value.

Just buy the S6 or a different car. Waste of time and money for a conversion. My .02

I talked to MRC Tuning and they said the conversion was very difficult and they won't do one again. Going to stick to a tuned 3.0T for my B7 build.

Do you know what year and version of the 4.0tt your friend has? How much does he want for it?
