Taking car do stealership...do you change intake/filter back to stock?

Quick question taking the car in for service and have a carbino intake/filter. Do you guys switch back to stock? Car is still under warranty. If you dont, what do you do with the filter? Ask for a refund on it. Keep it and sell it?

I used to when I was mostly stock just because it took 10 minutes.

Now days I don't bother. Between my exhaust and cosmetic mods it is very clear my car is modded.

Just be sure to pull the tune off if you have it. If not you should be fine.

Filters for the intake are considered life-time items by Audi. They shouldn't do anything with it other than clean it.

I would install the factory air box before service. It doesn't take long, I do it every time. Some dealers are mod friendly so you might get lucky with that.

I've wondered this too. Has anyone actually ran into trouble down the road with a warranty claim because of an intake? I have the CTS turbo one, but no other powertrain mods (just cosmetic for now).

I never removed mine. Nor did I ever flash my ECU back to stock. Nothing to hide... Plus my dealership installed most of my mods anyways. LOL
Never received TD1 either.

It depends on your dealership. My SA told me that if possible I should put my stock intake back on before service.

Why not just change it before? it takes so little time - plus it reduces the risk you would be denied warranty. 20 minutes for better peace of mind is worth it IMO. My car is obviously modded at first sight too. An aggressive drop and AGs give it away. Talk to your SA though. It depends. For example, as i mentioned mine told me that if i can to throw the stock intake back on each time that i definitely should, but told me that catback only exhausts (such as my AWE Track) are fine and the techs are cool with them.

Its not that a tech will see the intake and go "OHH SH*T. TD1!!!!!!! Im going to flag this mother ******" and flag you based off of solely noticing the intake. At least 99.9% of the time that won't happen. The reason for swapping the intake is that so if they find do find something ELSE that is busted (i.e. water pump, etc.) that they will cover it no questions asked. and won't even have the chance to blame the intake.

I flash back but never put the stock intake back on. Never had an issue.

It is easy to do for sure but I was wondering if anyone had personal experience. My plan was to switch it back and flash to stock for peace of mind and to minimize the chance they would say "a caused c so we won't cover it". Thanks for the responses.

Just talk to your rep and see what he/she says, I've got like everything but Meth injection and I'm still not TD1 *yet*.

Going in for a service recall and an MMI issue next week - I replaced my OEM airbox for piece of mind. It was my first time back to stock so it took some time remembering all the nuances of the install such as: 1) Reusing the rubber grommet feet 2) The metal adapter you inserted on the smaller breather filter on the side 3) The two-way hose coupler between the airbox and hose was also reused. Remember those and you'll cut your time down by 15 additional minutes.

I leave my drop-in filter in, but I would swap back to a stock air box to be safe. You don't need a tech having a bad day to manually input TD1...

I have never had to remove my intake. Thermostat recently went out and they replaced it under warranty without any fuss. I guess it depends on the dealership.

Nope. Mines been for service twice also two different dealers no issues.

I have the CTS Turbo intake and have yet to remove it. My car has been in for multiple services as well as warranty work and I have not had an issue. Now that I am out of warranty I just ride or die!

OP, obviously YMMV.. but it takes less than 10 mins to swap from CTS to stock. I hedge and always do it, and by always I mean 2 times on my 16'. Initial 5k service and mount/balance winter tires.

Like others have said, depends on the dealership. For mine, the head mechanic asked me if I had modified the engine software. I said no, and he told me good, never do that I'd be fine.
