Was doing a walk around my car today and noticed my front drivers side rim was bent. Do you guys think it can be fixed it's an Avant Garde 510 and I've had it for maybe 3 months. I don't recall hitting anything that would make me think the rim would bend. I'm super disappointed with AG and will never use them again. When I ordered these rims two of them came in bent and it took and extra month for that to get fixed. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160731/bcded5d6f6f69d4c1d61309cd7b471d1.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160731/feb83d3118f3b47dc5654789e942490b.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160731/22bf81254e74e16b26e46ee04ce36350.jpg

So you ordered them brand new and 2 were bent out of the box? That doesn't sound right. Did they have tires on them when you got them, or did you just order rims only and the boxes were damaged in shipping? There are some places around that repair alloy wheels, but they typically heat them and then once straightened/trued, they have to paint them. That could result in a slightly off-color wheel.

Wow, hard to believe that's holding air.

Damn.... You didn't know until a walk around??? That's a major fucking bend. As you are in NY, go to Proformance in New Rochelle. Couldn't say enough good things about them. Can be a little pricey, but is what's it is... You'll debate, cause it's gonna cost you close to what the rim cost new to fix it. But, considering dismount, repair, re-powder, re-mount...a lot involved. You could just buy a new wheel and have only the bend repaired and keep it as a spare too.

I ordered a set to excelerate performance to have them mount Pss to them. When they came in they said that two of the four were bent and they had them replaced.

The car isn't driving different at all. And I can't hear anything from the wheel either.

well you certainly hit something and that bent the wheel, im not sure what that has to do with avantgarde, but do whatever you like. wheel could probably be fixed, but im not a pro.

I'm sure I must have, but I don't think I hit anything with excessive force. I'm sure I've hit a pot hole but I feel like these rims aren't made very well and that's the reason for the bend.

AG isn't Flow Formed or Forged so it doesn't take a ton of force to bend a cast wheel

you can spend more money for a flow formed or forged wheel they are stronger, and or stick with the oem wheels they are pretty strong and durable.

I had purchased these for my summer rims and kept the flowers for winter but it seems you are right and the OEM rims are stronger

Do you know what caused your rim to bend? Was there any damage to the tire? My tire seems fine. It's holding air and that's why I think that the impact couldn't have been that strong

I didn't hit any crazy deep pothole but we do have slightly raised bumpy highway sections here in mass. My tires are all fine anyway

I hear ya... My advice was from first hand experience...

I hit a pothole and bent a rim, dead center between the spokes about half as bad as yours. When I hit, I knew there was damage.... Proformance did a great job taking out the bend.

Did you drive on the bent rim at all or as soon as you noticed it did you wait for a replacement?

I'm still driving on it for 3k miles now but my bends are egg shaped and not like yours anyway. I'm waiting to have them straighten again at a local shop.

Thank you for the recommendation. Do you think I would be able to get the car there? I live in somers NY

I have hit some holes and expected to see that, thank god I haven't. Worst I had was a big tire blister.

I would take it off the car and throw the spare on and bring it to them. For anyone to fix that, its gonna take a few days, at least.

I recently had an issue with my AG510. Didn't notice until I had to keep putting air in one of them. At first my car drove okay, but over time it started getting shaky at high speeds so I brought it in to get checked and apparently inside barrel was bent. Had them counter balance the wheel until I could take it to a repair shop.

Took the wheel to a repair shop and they noticed that not only the inside barrel was bent but 2 spokes bent inward. I only drive the car locally now until my new wheel comes in :(.

I'm not sure that wheel is repairable or worth paying to repair it. That's a pretty big bend. I doubt they will be able to get it balanced perfectly even if they do straighten it. I'd just replace the wheel. Low profile wheels bend. Most aftermarket wheels are not forged and softer than OEM wheels. The worst wheels I've owned were MSW wheels - often joked as meaning Most Soft Wheel lol. I had a bend like yours with those and you absolutely felt it while driving - not sure how you don't feel it. Heck - I've had bends that you can't even see visually and you can feel it.

Regardless - suck it up and replace the wheel. Even forged wheels get bends, heck - my neighbor has bent wheels (yes plural) on his SUV - he is self admittedly a terrible driver and has mounted several curbs - and he just continues driving on them that way.

From my experience, that wheel actually looks fairly easy to fix. But there is the odd chance they crack when they are being repaired.

Man i had some cast VMR wheels, they were great, but they are very soft and our roads are horrid.

Flow forged has been holding up WAY better, hit a decent pot hole at about 45-50 and it just scuffed the paint a little.

I disagree. This spring, I had a shimmy in my steering wheel after I put my 19" OEM rotors on that wouldn't resolve with a re-balance. The tire tech said the front wheels appeared to be bent. Ended up taking all 4 wheels into a shop that repairs them and ALL 4 were bent to some degree. I never hit anything major. Definitely nothing that would make me cringe and worry about bending a wheel. Guy that runs shop says he sees OEM Audi, BMW and MB wheels CONSTANTLY bending.

At the other end of the spectrum, I have a set of AG M310s for the winter and they are still perfect.

AG isn't Flow Formed or Forged so it doesn't take a ton of force to bend a cast wheel

While forged steel is inherently stronger than cast steel, forged wheels use less metal to make them lighter than cast wheels which in turn lowers their durability back to cast levels.

Lighter, not necessarily stronger.

I had a cracked 19" OEM peeler. Made an appointment @ Wheel Collision Center in Bath Pa and they repaired it while I waited. Fortunately, I live 20 mins away. Repair is guaranteed. 6 Months since it was done and no issues. You can ship your wheels there as well. Call them for a quote. Or make a road trip from NY.

That place is well known around SE PA and neighboring states. They repaired a set of wheels for me a while back and had good results.

Same here. Have yet to bend my M510's on some pretty big hits. Also those look like m580's or m590's and not m510's based on the lip.

OEM wheels blow also.. they bend way too easily.

+1 on Crimson Wheel Repair in Edison NJ, owner John is a B8.5 S4 owner and really nice guy to work with, prices are also reasonable

For a $300 wheel, it's not worth trying to fix IMO. Even if you could, it's likely weaker once bent back from that and it will likely have to be refinished and it's an open question if the refinishing will ever match.

Also, I had some relatively small hits to my tires and I found out pretty quickly that the Michelin PS AS/3 (if that's what you have too) don't like bumps very much. The tires are sort of like runflats in that if you a hit a pothole, even if the rim is ok, the tire will have that "wobble" sound going down the road because it has a weak spot inside somewhere. It shows up on road force balance and it will never balance out and the rim is fine. Two of my tires are like this, getting really loud now as the tires are about done and I spent way too much money trying to RF balance them and figure it out.

So even if you replace the rim, a hit that hard will likely have damaged the tire enough you're going to hear it from now on and it will show up on roadforce and not balance out. IOW, deal with the noise or get a new tire too.

If your tires are 1/2 worn and you decide to replace the tire, Tire Rack can shave the new tire down for you to match the existing tires. It's a nominal fee like $30 or something. I had it done and it turned out ok.
