How to tell if flap motor is bad?

I tried doing a search and couldn't come up with anything related to verifying a flap motor. Long story short I got a p2014 code and I ordered a new flap motor. After installing it and driving the code came back. Took it in for a diag and the tech says he's getting code for mechanical fail of the flap motor. So before I go off replacing another flap motor (it's covered under warranty but just wanna avoid hassle if I can). It's possible I got a lemon, but is there a way to verify the motor is actually bad?

I believe there are multiple flap motors depending on your model year, did you get the right one?

Yes, I verified by vin. It is 06f133482e.

Did you take it to the dealer or local independent shop?

It needs to be adapted to the car via VCDS (and only VCDS). I'm pretty mechanically savvy and changed it myself, have a full vagcom, etc but lost 2 days trying to replace my failing flap motor....I ended just leaving it at my local Audi dealership (which I never go to), leaving them the keys, and told them to make that light go away without asking me anything. 2 days and $600 later, they did. Don't know and don't care how...Was at my witts end. The only thing I can think of is that either the VDO (not Audi) part was defective or similar, but the stupid thing never wanted to adapt via VCDS and always just threw a mechanical error...

OK so part must match for vin?

There are 2 flap motors. One for cars made before August 2005 and one for cars made after August 2005. Checking which one you need by VIN is the best way to make sure you get the right one because the early one won’t work with later cars and vice versa.
