View Full Version : More Fuel Issues - P1093 "Malfunction"

Used to have low pressure side issues but fixed all those. Car runs great most of the time but sometimes at low RPM cruising speeds I'll have throttle cuts and the EPC light comes on. I've had to pull over on the side of the road, turn the car off, turn it back on and it runs mint again. Very odd. I have had a few times where I get throttle cuts in 130+ mph range but that may have been due to bad E85 when travelling in Wisconsin.

Main code is:

6538 - Bank1; Fuel Measuring System 2
P1093 00 [032] - Malfuction

Other one is:

23254 - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit
P0461 00 [096] - Implausible Signal

Thinking the second one is just due to a bad fuel level sensor since it started popping up right after I installed a new Low Pressure Pump. Thinking the main issue is the first code.

Thanks for any help! Unfortunately logs won't really help because it's so intermittent and there's no way to trigger it intentionally.

I used to get the 1093. Tony has a fix for that. He probably just needs to apply it to your box code.

The "Fix" is in place in all of the 551F files. If the code is thrown generally speaking I would expect it to an actual issue now. Coupled with a code unrelated to tuning... I would unfortunately guess hard parts.

The other code is related to the low pressure pump I installed. Threw those codes the day it was installed and randomly does it now and then. It's just a bad fuel level float/sensor. Has nothing to do with delivery.

1093 has been coming up since going E85. Had no issues with 93.

Now getting P0087 "Low Fuel Rail Pressure." Wondering if my autotech pump is bad.

Same thing happens to me. Low rpm. Epc light and limp mode. My code from my carista app is "p0169...incorrect fuel composition". Happens to Andthe(Tom) also...the e85 I was using was e92...so I was also throwing lean codes. Watered it down with a few gallons of 91. I'll see if it does it again.

I also have recently switched from a good running EPL stg2 to an e85 stg2.... Sucked down the first tank in a quick 157 miles. On the way to refuel a few hours ago just cruising along with traffic, EPC light comes on and limped to the side of the road to restart. Once I got home pulled the codes- 1093 fuel measuring system 2 malfunction, bank 1 and 2 too lean. Took a fuel sample from the tank I just filled, appears to be about e90. Running the 551F file...

So it "seems" to happen when the e85 is too high or too low percentage off of 85%. Maybe Tony will chime in to shed some light.

I got an EPC yesterday for the first time in a long time. I will check to see if I have the latest 551F file.

Hard to imagine this is related to any parts, given that several people are getting it as I see here.

I sent him an email, but I haven't had much luck with that form of communication with Tony... Fwiw, I don't know what the last tank percentage was, but I refueled from fumes at the same station about a week ago, so I assume it's the same fuel?

Checked the long term fuel adaptation, strangely bank one is 10%, bank two is 16%... makes me wonder what would have happened if I would have jumped straight to e85 dual pulley like I planned to in the first place?

If you do several thousand miles with out an EPC light and then you get one, Im confused why you wouldnt consider this a potential hardware issue.... Tunes are finite, parts fail.

I sent one in March, then resent the same email in April.... trying to activate the flashloader and purchase the e85 setup. No reply to either. I do realize that you have a lot on your plate. Not trying to blow you up or anything, merely pointing out that email may not be the best form of communication. I called and spoke with Chris since and he set me up instantly, so I will go that route as suggested.

May be premature assumption, but it seems everyone here is running the same software and previously had no issues.... Seems logical that it IS software related? No? So if I drain this tank of ethanol, swap back to the gas file and have no issues.... It would signify a deficiency in the tune?

OR

Perhaps a pre existing hardware issue that surfaces given the conditions required to run the software are out of parameter... idk...Or maybe whatever vehicle used to write the software is performing beyond normal tolerances to the average? Not sure what small percentage of stg 2 e85 551F consumers are represented here, but hard to overlook the connection

Yeah, I'm gonna check my file code. But I really doubt this is hardware related. And is most likely the e85 percentage being out of the perimeters of what the tune is designed for. Or as you said, EPL's test cars are more tolerant to changes in e85 purity.

What "hardware" are you referring to? My HPFP?

Had to restart my car twice yesterday just to make it 5 miles home. Topped of the tank with 2.5 gal of 93 to try to dilute the ethanol. Hopefully this helps bring the fuel trims back down to a useable state just to drive the car to burn this tank off. Tony suggests to flash back to the gas file, run a tank and recheck fuel trims. Since I have the HPFP ugrade already, wondering how this will turn out, if this will really be a useful test. I only ran the HPFP with the gas for a few miles to run the tank down before refilling with E85 and the flash. I suspect it should be a negative trim since the pump ugrade isn't even needed for a stg 2 gas file?
I will have to investigate the LPFP duty cycle, curious if a low ouput may be putting too high a strain on the high side. Think I would have low side faults if that were the case though.

I am definately frustrated with this as I expected a plug and play upgrade- just add the HPFP and flash. Wasn't expecting to have issues. Sucks, almost another grand invested and has rendered my car a POS. Hopefully once this is resolved, I will notice an improvement in performance. Not just a reduction in my bank account

I still have my car and since this thread I've given up on the E85 file. Flashed back to 93 file and nary a MIL in over three years. 90k on the odometer now, thinking its not a hardware issue so much as parameter tolerances maybe in the ethanol tune? Maybe I should look into this again... Or sell my autotech pump upgrade and ethanol tune lol. Checking my flashloader now, there is a newer file released 9/29/2017 for a stg2 e85. I wonder if there is a difference in this file that relates to any of this?
