So a few weeks ago, i did a couple hard pulls against a last gen BMW M6, a 500hp V10 monster, and somehow beat him every single time with my non tuned S4. I believe he didnt know how to drive the damn thing, shifting too fast with its SMG. Anyways, after all these back to back runs, i got on the free way and turned on the A/C only for it to not blow any cold air at all. The fan still worked but no cooling, so i assume the compressor was not turning on. Drove 5-7 miles down to my work and the as i started to park, the cooling came back on. I even did a trip to Cali the week after and the AC worked just fine all the way and back. I've done hard pulls before and the AC works then as well granted it was never back to back pulls like i did with the M6.
Is this normal? Did engine management system just not turn on the compressor to avoid loading/ heating the engine further?
Thanks

Speculating here, but I know some A/C compressors will mechanically disconnect the compressor from the drive belt at high RPM's to keep from harming the compressor. It's possible that the compressor began operating normally once you returned to normal driving, not sure why that took 5-7 miles though, I would expect it to be a little quicker. My $.02

I can confirm The AC clutch is disengaged at WOT. But soon after, it should resume normal operation. Not sure why yours took so long. Keep an eye on it.

well to be more accurate, once i noticed the cool air didnt come out, i turned off the ac unit altogether. I turned it back on once i got off the freeway and near to my work and ac worked and still works to this day with no problem. I occasionally do hard pulls from red lights ... just for kicks and ac still works no problem. hmm idk and i dont want to try to recreate it either.
but regardless, the ac did not kick back on after a few minutes of hard driving.

That problem hasn't happened to me before. I'm also tuned but don't think that matters. One thing is for sure... You don't want to be without AC this weekend...
