Oil on upper intercooler hose

Why is there oil on intercooler hose the one connected to throttle body. It's right by the clamp area and you see oil on frame and some on belly pan also. Is this normal? Unfortunately that's common with this platform. The intercooler pipes collect some oil blow by from the turbo. If it's only a few tablespoons, just empty it out periodically when you do oil changes. If more, it could point towards a failed PCV or worse case deterioration of your turbo bearing. The drivers side typically collects the most. The hose usually does not deteriorate but your clamp may have loosened thereby permitting some of the oil to migrate topside during boost. Some find that a catch can eliminates this issue and kelps keep the pipes dry.

What he said. Pull those IC pipes and see what comes out. Are you having any oil consumption issues?

I only use 1/2 quart to 1 quart of oil in between oil change. I might have to pull the IC hose. Pcv seems fine did the oil cap test no problem get it out. I think I have a boost leak also bc I'm on jhm stage 2 and my buttdyno don't feel like it's pulling hard.

That seems like a lot of weeping. I would make sure the TB hose and MAP sensor area aren't leaking air past. With that comes a bit of oil in the intake (which is normal/unavoidable to an extent with turbos).

Worse than mine but I had the same issue recently...Just cleaned off the area completely, pulled on the hose a little, and re tightened the clamp with a flat head and now its been dry for a new days so all good [:)]

WTF?? He drills into the bottom of the intercoolers and later plugs the holes with screws...Pretty nice way to ensure a permanent leak in the future [facepalm]

Considering that removing a IC hose takes all of 10 seconds and requires only a flathead screwdriver, I'd say that video and the monkey in it are fucking retarded.

I couldnr realy see was that plastic he was drilling into or a rubber hose . ? if it was thick enough to tap and put a plug and seal in it may not be a bad thing. just looked like a thin plastic or rubber hose though.

I watched that video and I thought that's the stupidest idea drill a hole to drain the oil and plug it with a screw. It's up on a lift just disconnect the hose simple as that. Whoever that car is might have leak now. I had this car for 8yrs so definitely sure there's quite some oil on IC hose. Since these hose are aging gonna get some silicone hose and swap these out.

In hindsight I agree that drilling the holes and plugging with screws is a shoddy way of doing this .......

wow talk about your amazing timing....

When my son headed to work yesterday the car sure enough had left a decent size mark . I decided to drop the pan and tighten up the oil drian plug .. hmmmm its dry .. uh oh where is it coming from ? after about 30 seconds I saw an oil drop on a clamp and because of this thread I new exactly what it was and not to panic. Took about 200ml from the drivers side. Something I would consider normal from a totally neglected car. the clamp was really loose so it collected enough then started dripping.

While in there I did the passenger side , exactly one drop . cleaned it up tightened the clamp , put the pan back on and out of the pits she goes.

Another baseline project done for me to monitor.

Sounds pretty normal. My IC piping used to fill up with alarming amounts of oil - like 1/3 to 1/2 a quart, and I was having to add oil often. Gave me crazy predetonation issues.

Replaced my turbo last weekend and its running like a champ (thanks vortexjunkie) but I haven't checked the ICs yet.
