Searched and saw an identical issue in the B6 forum, but his solution was coil-overs. I'm likely keeping this car one more year so I won't be sinking cash into a coil over setup. What I am curious about though is, how hard are these to change without removing the subframe? Is it just compress, pull, compress the new ones, and reinstall? Or is there more to it than that?

Also, any reason not to drive this thing for a week or two until I can get parts? Spring looks pretty well seated around the bushing to me. Seems OK to get by.

Finally, anyone know a good place not a dealership to get OEM springs? I usually get my stuff from ECS but only see aftermarket there. TIA!

This is a dealership, but wholesale prices usually cheaper than ECS, and other vendors as well. It's called audiusaparts.com and I usually order my genuine vw/audi parts from there. You need a spring compressor LIKE THIS (http://www.ebay.com/itm/MacPherson-Interchangable-Fork-Strut-Coil-Spring-Compressor-Extractor-Tool-Set-/271700623796?hash=item3f429e81b4:g:siYAAOSwB4NWzP0 O&item=271700623796&vxp=mtr) and drop the side of the subframe you are working on. If you loosen both sides of the subframe you will have alignment issues. Bolts are TTY so those will have to be replaced (if you want to do it properly) if you decide to drop the subframe.

I have some springs laying around from my b6 if you have stock suspension.
