Generally the injector is "cleaned" vise removing its filter....or simply replaced.
That is if it is "confirmed" the filter is clogged in the first place.
Which often means the fuel filter, up stream is in bad shape and should be changed.

So after replacing your injector filters....you noticed increase flow and performance?

where did you get your filters and what size screw did you used?

So after you clean them out with this method you just re-install and run as normal?

Simply put, yes.

I kept them inside of plastic bags whenever I wasn't handling them, and did my best to keep them clean. I installed new O-rings (can be had for cheap as well, you don't have to use OEM). I believe it states in the manual that they have to be replaced each time you remove an injector, but I don't believe this. I think it's fine to re-use them as long as they aren't too old, and as long as you don't mangle them when removing them from the injector.

I gave them a day to dry, just because I was busy doing other things with the car. Maybe you could let the solvent dry over night?

I lubed the O-rings with fresh oil (as per the manual), re-installed, and all was well. I had to press the gas a little bit while starting the car, to get the engine running. I believe this is to get fuel into the fuel rail (it pours out when you remove injectors). Maybe there's a specific procedure for this, such as "press the gas pedal X times, then start the car" to fill up/pressurize the fuel rail.

Appreciate it!

Will be doing this next month for my 3.0 BGN.

Costs less than $1?

How much were the replacement filters?

Can of carb cleaner?

9 volt battery?

I used Bosch/Siemens universal injector filters, which I bought from a local shop at a rip-off price. It'll cost much less online.

10-30 cents per filter is a ripoff price? You said above you can do this for ~$1. Which is it, a bargain or a ripoff? [:p]

MikTip

So, what was this rip-off price you paid for said filters?[o_o]

To date, I have never had an Audi fuel injector issue...let alone one caused by bad injector filters....

My question is what does a B5 S4 engine have in common with the B6 1.8t or 3.0? Same injectors?

I fully understand the benefits of cleaning injectors. However is it really "needed" every 30, 000 miles and on every
Vehicle? For as many years as I have been on this and various other Audi forums I have never seen or heard of such a requirement for the B6 A4. My 1.8t TT 225 OE injectors have performed fine for over 140,000 miles....zero signs or symptoms they need cleaning or replacement.

Much depends on the grade of gasoline that is run in the car....changing the fuel filter...etc...etc...

Top-tier gas solves a lot of issues. Top-tier gas is all I run in my vehicles. I only run Chevron and Costco premium octanes in my cars. Only after my local indy shop guy told me that Costco gas was good did I start using it. I left cheaper Arco, 7-11 and Circle-K gas back in my high school days [:)]

A small bench top ultrasonic cleaner would be useful for cleaning the injectors during the filter replacement.

n7plus1

I don't know a source. I just read on an injector service website (I forget which), that they not only come in different shapes and sizes, but different filter media micron grades as well. And that, using a finer filter media will require you to change the filters more often, because they will clog faster. Again, it's just what I read. Idk when they would need to be changed.

I tapped them in with a small hammer.

Id like to bump this as this wasnt the answer i was looking for from the OP. by source i mean, where did you buy them?

Fuel injector cleaner concentrate for adding to the fuel tank for use in the ultrasonic cleaner tank, a couple of bottles of Chevron Techron is my suggestion.

I just ordered this today. Going to split the kit with Evo-Ski. Just search for "bosch injector service" in ebay. You want a kit that fits Bosch Type 3 injectors (if there is a picture be sure the injector looks like our injectors, plastic skinny injectors). There are a ton of kits, I'm guessing they're all pretty much the same. I bought an 8cylinder kit as its not much more than a 4 cylinder kit and I figured I would just split it with someone else. Makes the total cost for each person $14 instead of $25.

do you know which kit id need for the TT225 bosch 386cc injectors?

EDIT: according to this ebay page, the TT225 Bosch 386cc injectors need the Bosch Type 3 kit.

The OEM Bosch Part # for those injectors are: 0280155892

this kit states it "Fits Bosch Part Numbers 0 280 155 xxx"

Same as what I linked. They're the same type 3 injectors as the standard ones. I might have my kit by the end of the week so I can confirm by the weekend that it's the right one. I'm 99% certain it is given all the research I've done.

Ah yes. The filters in the kit definitely work. I tested the fitment out on one of my old OEM injectors and while it was tricky to get the old filter out the new one for perfectly. Since the TT injectors have the same design it should fit them 100%.

I would have updated sooner but I'm focusing on selling b7 so I just haven't had much time to deal with my b6.

Your fuel filter should catch this shit... anyone found pieces of stuff the filter didnt catch or just pieces of the little filter itself?...

Bump, wondering if the kits were pretty easy to install? I have some TT225 OEM injectors on the way and want them to be as good as new when I install with a Stg 1+ tune. By replacing the filters and pulsing with a voltage source, does this then basically equal an injector cleaning service?

N7plus1, did you get the kits and do you have any left?

caldy315

I've heard it's better to ultrasonically clean them.
Audi DIY: Clicky (http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/diy-injector-cleaning-how-to-pic-heavy.119767/)

Even then, there's this comment on BITOG:

Cleaning report on used injectors that had new filters before being sent in:

Makes sense. They must just be pressurizing the line and pulsing the injector open and closed. I would think that would clean out any of the little holes that would affect spray pattern

After installing throttle response was MUCH better.

I also installed the JHM 5mm intake spacer and cut off the coolant lines going to the throttle body. The spacers are suppose to give a little low end torque

^Option 1 has brown Viton O-rings. Not sure why the black ones are smaller.
Option 2 & 3, not sure what those clear things are at the bottom. edit: "Pintle cap retainer", not sure if applicable to these specific injectors though.

Clear thing holds the O-ring on TT style (long metal bit) injectors, afaik

short ones have the pintle cap instead, which does the same task

Never got around to doing this but bookmarked it for when it was time. I assume those two later links would work for TT225 injectors then correct, based on 5ktq's comment? Spike deleted out a lot of his posts it looks like so it's a little harder to follow.

So basically I think there are two different filter types, at least.
3L may not be the same as 1.8T.
And I've had both engines.

I performed this on my 3L, but have not done it on the 1.8T yet.

Just checked my Bookmarks to see if I have any eBay sellers saved, to use as a filter source.

Also, if it wasn't mentioned already, I heard before that brown Viton O-rings are better than black ones, but IDK how true that is, as the OEM ones are black.
I'm also not sure what people prefer to use to install the O-rings, such as giving them a light coat of grease or fuel.
I hear the grease has to be non-silicon or something, to avoid damaging the O2 sensors.

And I'm just speaking of stock 1.8T injectors. Not sure about TT225 386cc either.

I don't know any of these sellers but here's a rough idea:
Clicky (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=audi+1.8t+fuel+injector+filters&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xaudi+inje ctor+service.TRS0&_nkw=audi+injector+service&_sacat=0)

Huh. I just swapped out the O-rings on my injectors but didn't notice any filters. In fact, I had no idea that there were filters in the injectors.

I'm not sure if they're visible if you look inside the injector with a flashlight or something.
I didn't know there were filters either, until hearing about it somewhere.

I didn't even believe it, until I ended up trying to remove the with a drywall screw, and out they came, looking tired, old, and tattered.

How much of a difference does it make? I don't know. I'm just pointing out that they exist.
And I've been told by injector service shops that included in their service, aside from flow-testing, cleaning, etc. - they also install new filters.

As for online, maybe it costs less that way,
because in a rush, I found a local fueling shop (works on carburetors, etc.) who sold me some filters that fit, but at a higher price due to the nature of their business (vs. eBay)
