I wanted to share something that worked for me, hopefully it helps someone else.

I've had random start issues - when starting the engine, it would catch, but barely, and then the engine would stumble/stall. Happened probably ~30% of the time for the first three years. Didn't matter if the engine was hot or cold.

Nothing severe enough to bug me. Usually giving it some gas would take care of it or just restarting (sometimes 2-3 times).

No codes, no other problems. Over the last year or so, it's slightly worse, but still far less than half the time. At high revs, it felt like the car wasn't putting out as much power as it used to, so I ran 80% of a can of BG44k through the intake and the rest in the gas (will take a shot of the hose I used later today).

No more starting issues & mileage on highways is noticeably better - it's been about a month. Will let you guys know if it comes back.

What's the mileage on your car?

Also you could be having one or more clogged injectors.

It's been happening since new (2008). In the range of ~100,000km's+/- now and no more issues (for the last month).

I was having similar issues, but not as often as what you are describing. My car is actually at the dealer now. It has been there since yesterday and they haven't called me yet to let me know what it is. It is still under warranty, so I am not really worried

They seemed to think it may be a leaky injector based on the symptoms I described, but there is apparently a new software flash that fixes some hard starting issues that they will likely load as well.

sounds like carbon buildup on the valves for fsi engines that everyone has been having problems with. 3.2 seem to have more of a problem than the 2.0's but i know both get it. eventually i think you have to go in and clean them off manually. what is bg44k btw?
