View Full Version : Finally reached mod satisfaction - 034 HFC installed! I think.....

So I got my HFC installed at 034 yesterday together with the turbo inlet hose and they also flashed my APR to Stage II. Have to say that it's a very worthwile upgrade and quite noticable one at that. The turbo spools faster and there's more pull between 2500-4000rpms, the car is def faster once boost has built. I'm actully thinking of adding a boost gauge which was something I never felt I needed before. Draw back is that I can't motorbrake as well as I used to since the exhaust resistance has gone down [>_<] . This was the last of my planned mods which has taken sometime to complete since interested parties (Wife) have slowed the process down with a lack of understanding as to why I need to spend money on a car "that's great already". Started with the AFE filter and getting it flashed with APR then added a swaybar. Then got the votex front splitters and side skirts done and it looked weird with the 4x4 but I really like the look as the side skirts ties the splitters in, without the side skirts it doesn't look right. Next step was to add the KONI FSD kit which I think is great and feels very much like the OEM setup, just looks better and handles great. I've also added a RNS-E and now finished with the HFC. With each mod I like the car more and more and it's getting addictive [evilsmile]

Not sure what else to add as I'm happy with it for the moment and I don't see any other mods that are as cost-effective as a flash and HFC install. I'm going to add pics when I get home as I can't upload from work.

Does your turbo whistle REALLY loud when you're in boost?

034 is a cool spot, nice people and they do a great job on all work. I'm going to get my stage 2 unitronic flash next week.
But yeah the HFC is good shit.

[:D] I hear you, that came out wrong, I like to downshift on the tip and just let the resistance slow the car which isn't as efficient as it was before I got the HFC installed. I don't hear any turbo whine over the normal levels.

Seems like the next step would be the HPFP, I'm just concerned about the CAM follower and increased wear. It doesn't seem to complicated to swap one yourself judging by the DIY though. But yeah, that's the next mod I presume together with a Stage II+ flash.

Can't say enough about 034, great guys and they did a great job.

Was going to get the SLR and take some pics but we've had rain and wind here the last two days, not too conducive for nice pics. Might have to settle for garage pics.

$1,000.00 for 5 horses? Just run stock n put the money toward something else... The cat/test pipe is where you get the gains.

I love downshifting to a stop. I did 52k on my B7 on the original pads and rotors, only had about 50% wear when I turned it in lol. Glad you're happy with the upgrades.

Thats a good set of mods, you should be satisfied.
Without pictures, it didn't happen.

You're getting me pumped up. In the next year I will be adding a HFC to my B7 and I can't wait! How much did your install cost?

sounds like a great set of upgrades.

engine braking on flat ground is a little silly, but in some areas you have to gear down to control your speed, otherwise you overheat your brakes. i don't really like to engine brake if there's no reason the brakes can't do the job, no sense in riding at a higher rpm without cause i guess.

By HFC you mean "High Flow Cat".

That's just a big filter, how does it add anything lol

If anything Downpipe WITHOUT HFC is better.

The best mod I have done was the HPFP. Does 034 used Unitronic? I'm surprised they flashed APR for you..though I haven't been there in a long while.

You should get a boost gauge...PM me as I am selling one. Check out the Norcal classifieds.

Well I was debating doing it myself as it's not exactly brain surgery but the TIP box makes it a tight fit and I don't have access to a garage (live in a condo) so I just had 034 put it in after work on Tuesday. They charged me two hours work at $125/hr = $250 total inc sales tax. They installed the HFC, Turbo hose and did the flash in that time. I caught up on some work while waiting = win win.

For me, who's never had an aftermarket exhaust before, the HFC has added a noticable gain in exhaust sound. It's not droney at all just the perfect sound for me so I think I'll forgo a catback and spend that on something else, most likely a HPFP :D .

The way the car feels right now I think is how it should've come from AUDI from the beginning which I guess they realized with the bump in power and torque that the B8's got.

And yes, no pics means it didn't happen so pics coming soonest.

Dude, a high flow cat is much freer flowing than the stock cat. No question that a testpipe and upgraded downpipe will maximize your gains, but adding a HFC is significant.

Mc Suly

Why is a HFC significant? because of the emission laws in your area?

I am going to order a RAI Downpipe without HFC soon for my stock exhaust.

I meant that you get significant gains over the stock cat with an HFC. The RAI DP is freakin' sweet though. That should put a grin on your face.

There are very few environmentally friendly laws in Alberta lol.

Take a look at the dyno of the HFC before opening your mouth, the gains are significant. I don't want the rasp or smell that a downpipe without HFC provides for the minimal gains over the HFC.

Yea it's like 5 horses and will make any girl wanna jump out the car because of the smell... I have an 034 HFC... I can't rave enough about it... Great product!

Yeah my ol' lady has a pretty sensitive sniffer (she can smell one of my burps even if the damn windows are down) and she hasn't noticed the smell of the test pipe. I havn't noticed it smell either. But it definently added quite a bit of sound. It sounded almost stock at the beginning and now after about 5 weeks after install it's gotten much louder.

I just ordered up the rs4 rear sway bar kit from europaparts.com. It will be my first upgrade to the suspension and from what I hear quite a worthwhile one. I'm pretty excited to see what kind of a difference it will make on a stock non-sport suspension.

Modding is totally an addiction. And I'm hooked bad. But this car responds to them so well and has such a massive aftermarket support that it's both easy to support this habit (pending funds $) and difficult not to mod because of the exact same reason.
