I am nervous about running the turbo with just the drive pressure to open the vanes. On the dyno where I can see it and set it up properly would be fine, but how would I set it up without being ale to watch it?
I really like the idea though. What spring are you using to keep it closed?
Storx
06-04-2010, 08:02 AM
the spring he was using was really weak.. it was like barely able to close the arm.. so if that says anything.. you are running an external wastegate right??? you should.. so you can control boost.. haha if you have your wastegate... just run it off spring.. what it 1bar??? then install the spring and if it spools like you want.. then you will be happy... i not been over to the shop.. since the other day.. been packing my house up getting ready for them to come pick up my stuff for tuesday.. and ship it all back to USA.. when i get back to the states.. you will be happy you have that turbo.. cause you will be able to do the mod im going to be doing.. really cheap.. and it will help you out on streetable driving.. but i want to test it out before i publish it all.. also i want to do more testing and studying into this spring only setup.. i really like it but i prefer to have the VGT open while cruising cause EGT shoot up fairly fast with it closed if you run in boost to long without it opening..
ALso just FYI bullseye performance is having an prototype billet wheel made for this turbo.. as it is similar to there HE351CW turbo.. just slightly different shaft.. and the billet wheel for the CW version was only 100.00 when they had there group buy.. so love is coming our way thanks to the DSM guys.. my buddy with an 13B Rotary setup with this turbo.. emailed me letting me know that he took his off to replace his blown rotor and the turbo was perfect.. no melting.. and he has spiked as high as 45psi....and revs his car out to 18k rpms.. on the track.. with it.. said he loves it over her old GT4088.. same power.. just so much more bottomend..

Are you running a oil restrictor in the feed line?
And, link me to the bullseye comp wheel stuff please!
I want to be able to run with mine open too. I been thining about using a vacuum refernced actuator with a check valve in it. Im thinking under vac have it hold the thing in the open position, and as vac goes down/load increase it closes it proportionally. Then maybe use drive pressure when boost builds to open it back up. Would be nice to find a actuator that can push and pull, and can be ran with a vac and boost line.
Storx
06-06-2010, 03:50 AM
ya.. that would be a pretty good idea.. a vacuum/boost actuator.. i wander how hard it would to machine one.. a normal wastegate cant be to complicated... to make..
There really isnt a thread on it.. just they sent me email saying they were... when i asked them if they had any interest in modding this turbo.. since they tend to mod every other Holslut (Holset) turbo.. hehe
I went to car show today here in korea.. and i am just apawed by how far America is on performance world.. hell there are Korean Model cars here in Korea.. Petrol that come stock with VGT turbos seen an Korean car there
Its called Samsung FLK36 it looks similar to an Honda S2000 but its like there sportscar here.. it has an 2.0L Hyundai engine with 2 VGT turbos... paired 1 turbo to 2 cylinders.. and there about the size of stock K03 each.. and they had power rated at 440hp..... i can only imagine the curve with both being VGT... The other thing that blew me about this car... the turbos are not horizontally mounted.. they are mounted vertically.. with the exhuast side facing directly down to the ground.. i always thought they had to be damn near leveled.. or bearings would sieze up.. i wish i knew more on mounting them this way.. it would make for huge advantage in any cars engine bay...
SpeedWorksAuto

I saw some guy using a actual pneumatic actuator on his. That way he was actually able to control it via boost and vac, and really tune in the response. Since you gave the idea of running a cable to the lever, I am sure it wont look like butt like his did with that cylinder and bracketry hanging off of his turbo.
oil restrictor?
Storx
06-06-2010, 03:38 PM
its journal bearing.. so you dont use restrictor.. but i dont know if that is the best answer.. i never used an restrictor on any of the cars that has this turbo on them.. but none of them run as high of oil pressure as our car does.. i dont and its been free of seals leaking up to this far.. so my best guess dont run it.. but the stock truck does use one.. but it nearly 1/10 inch hole.. so i dont imagine it reducing any pressure.. maybe more for a pencil stream onto the bearing..

Awesome... that is so awesome... hope things work out for you man.. alot of people lately have been struck by the engine build forgetful bug... people doing builds and forgettin to tighten something and next thing they know the engine is back out cause of it.. 1 guy forgot to tighten the headbolts... so blew headgasket, one guy forgot to tighten the exhuast bolts so it warped his manifold from heat, and another guy forgot to torque the crankshaft cap bolts.. and destroyed his block in less them 60 miles.... please hope things are 100% good for you.. cause i been preeching this turbo for nearly 2 years now.. and noone would beleave me that it was worth running with the size of the turbo being larger then a GT35r... as more install them.. we will learn the tricks around them and mods will come.. like standard T3 flange housing.. and such.. as demand for them arise.. there is already a demand from some DSM guys.. but to small of group still...
I was struck by bad luck.. i flew from Korea to go to my home in North Carolina where i had a house for 10 years now... and picked up my Audi TT from shipping place... flyed into japen for them to cancel every flight after i got there because of a protest... and i was stuck in the airport for 26 hours.. then finally got a flight home to USA...went and picked up my car fromt he shipping company and on the drive down i had toolbox fall out the back of a truck and i swerved to miss it.. and scared myself half to death in my car when i hit the grass doing 75+mph... but luckly the car amazing steering and stopping power stopped me safely.. but i had a screw driver go through my intercooler core... and i had the actual toolbox smack the side of my front right wheel denting the forged lip tearing my tire sidewall open.. and dinting my rear quarterpanel...
about 3 other cars behind me rearend each other.. aswell the toolbox went through the car directly behind me's windshield...the truck hit his brakes to slow down.. but then took back off.. so shittie thing is i didnt get the tag number cause i was to busy swerving his dang toolbox...
then after a few hours and a tow.. i went and got a rental to get home to go sleep... to come home and find that someone had broken into my house and garage from the backyard window.. and the A/C was running full blaze with the window broken... so dont know what to expect for my power bill this month... but about 90% of my stuff is missing from what i can tell aswell as my $4,000+ TIG welder... so sad.. so i am in a hotel right now waiting for insurance company to open up so i can call them...

All the sudden my problems dont seem so big. Welcome to home?
This time I carefully eyed the temp gauge, and keep checking all my hoses to be sure I was getting the fluids to flow. Everything so far is good. The motor is leaning more than it was when I mocked everything up so now the turbo rubs somewhere on the strut tower. I have a lot of finalizing to do, but hopefully I will be able to do a break in today, and start putting some miles on it.
Anybody familliar with the software side? I am running Maestro and I need to know if I turn all the emissions stuff of in the software will it show readiness when I go to the emissions place?

I just been watching the stock wbo2.
So, my car tune is set for 3bar fuel pressure, and my car is 4bar. To retune was a click away, but now the stupid damn thing wont communicate. The car runs and idles horrid since it is running stupid rich. I am seeing a fuel correction of around -24%. I am able to build about 5-6 psi of boost before the computer freaks out and throws me into limp.
I am running the VGT without any control, and it opens on its own. I just leave it open and run it. It sounds really good as the thing starts to spool, but its such a tease not being able to get on it.
Playing witht the VGT, I cant believe how much it quiets the exhaust with it all the way shut. Its almost stock sounding. Then as the VGT creeps open its like a exhaust cutout. I cant waut to get the actuator on this thing to keep it closed at idle to cut the noise.

WELL....after fouling out a few sets of plugs and chasing my tail. Not being able to build any boost without the computer freaking the hell out as it tried to pull over 25% of the fuel out at times..... I got in contact with a buddy of mines that is running the same year car on Maestro. COme to find out Chris Tapp's 630cc injector base files are set for a 3bar fuel pressure regulator, and My car runs a 4bar stock. No problem right? I mean, hell, thats just a couple clicks of the mouse away and JOILA a 4 bar tune right? Oh HELLS NAH, that would be too freakn easy. Now my software, out of the blue, doesnt even recognize my my car. No flashing, reading, logging for me....
Emailed Chris, and he has yet to return my mail. I took matters into my own hands, ran down to Absolute German and picked up a 3 bar. Car still took forever and a day to get to run, and when it did start it idled like crap. I went for a quick spin around the block and it was still sputtering like crazy. The more I let it run the better the idle got, until the sucker just got a hold of itself and idled like a champ.
With the 4 bar, I couldnt evn boost over 5 psi without the car going into limp, now I was able to get what my wastegate is set at, 13psi. She is still sputtering a bit under high load....building boost going uphill. I will have to wait for my software to get sorted to fix the rest of the issues.

im not sure how you feel about your manifold.. but we just welded the turbine housing directly to the manifold so we wouldnt have any issues with the weight making leaks.. cause if you read diesel forums.. and the stock truck has issues with the weight making leaks.. aswell some of the people who have put these on there older model cummins engines.... just take it to a good welder so he can get some good penetration.. the housing is just steel.. not nickle steel or cast iron like most garretts... i wish i could just show you what i mean but the dang pictures are all stuck on my buddys camera.. which doesnt want to connect to any PC we try to plug it into Grrrr.. but what we did was pickup one of those $90 dollar cast ATP closes and since people have issues with the threads cracking on them or coming out.. we just shaved it to the angle we wanted.. and just welded the housing directly to it.. also that large flat lump you see on the turbo.. you can shave that down by alot it just there because on the engine it came off of.. it rest against the motor there to help with the weight.... the housing on these turbos are nearly 1/2 inch thick on the walls..just look at it from the inside and you will see what i mean.. we also shaved the large water port and retapped it.. so we didnt have as much weight.... we took almost 2pds off the turbo..
I listened. The manifold bolts just couldnt stay tight, and I think one of them was pulling out the threads. SO, adapter to manifold WELDED, wastegate relocation adapter to manifold WELDED.

For the last week or so, hell every since I got this thing running, I have been trying to figure out why I have been having such massive missfires. They were sometimes so bad that the car wouldnt even rev in neutral past 2k. Driving around under load.....NAH. If I slowly give it throttle sometimes it would just burble for a bit and adjust and run enough, but I havent been able to really get on it. If it wasnt for the hot plugs with the small gap I gave them I dont think this thing would even start and idle.
The more I thought about it, and it really sounded like a ignition problem. Plus I have been randomly getting the ESP light, leading me to think something was jacked electrically. I took the coils off and pulled back the rubber boot that was around the connector and......

Three of the four coils had a wire that wasnt even connected, one coil connector just crumbled in my hand, and another just had a bunch of exposed wire just rubbing against each other.
I now have to find somewhere that will let me hack apart a harness so I can fix this mess. Hopefully this cures my running problems.
I am sure I am not the only one this has happened to. It seems as if the heat has turned the insulation brittle and with me constantly installing removing my coils they have been giving away. I dont know how long they have been like this, but as far as I remember something has always been a little bit off every since I did the GT3071.

In trying to diagnose why my software wasnt reading my ecu I finally decided to give it one last effort. I wasnt going to leave the car until the problem was fixed. Something told me to go through my fuses again. One by one I pulled them out and they were all good. Then I looked on the back of the fuse panel cover and checked all the ones that were linked to the ecm. All of the sudden a spot labeled DIAG. just jumped out at me. I never saw that one before. I went to pull the fuse to check it.....ya I feel like such a 'tard. There wasnt even a fuse. I stuck a fuse in there tried the software and voila, just like that my ecu was recognized and everything was working again. Thing is I dont remember messing with any fuses in between the last time the software was working and when it stopped.

NEXT.........car was still running stupid rich, and now I can see the thing dumping 23% fuel. I tried dialing it back a few times and no matter what I did it was just dumping gas. In talking to A4drivr, he told me which measuring blocks were for the o2 voltages, lambda and whatnot. I watched the o2 sensor volts for a few and they were stuck at .435 no matter what I did, and the car was dumping gas in. HMMMM...I unplugged the o2 and ran it. The car ran the exact same way. I ran and grabbed the o2 from my wbo2 setup plugged it in, cleared the codes, did a tb adapt, and magic. The car instantly ran better. At idle I still see it adding anywhere from 15-21%, but when it startd reading from the sensors, it doesnt just start loping and sputtering from it trying to fix a lean situation that doesnt exist. This time it was a seemless switchover. It still sputters a bit when cold at low rpms, but after that at most throttle inputs watching the laptop and driving, therer didnt appear to be any compensation in fueling needed.

Now, everything is still a bit rough since I am still my shakedowns, but boy let me tell you, a big turbo that can give you 10psi BEFORE 3k is where its at! Mind you I am still running straight wastegate spring, so I am limited to 13psi. I am still working on getting the thing to adjust so I can fully use the VGT rack. After a few attempts at egging him on, I finally caught him with a stretch and open lane next to him. I got on it and let the BOV sing right in his open window. Ya, it was on and cracking. There was a stoplight and we were in the same lane, He punched it, I gave chase and we just locked in. We ended up dead even he didnt pull on me, and I didnt gain on him. ANd now we are back to square one...........I was driving on my way back form the parents, and I heard a slight pop. I pulled off at the next exit, opnened the hood, and smelled what seemed to be some brake/hydraulic fluid burning. It was all over the drivers side and was dripping down and getting blown down on the hot exhaust causing tons of smoke. Whatb really pissed me off was the fact that I saw this fluid dripping in the holes that you can see the flywheel through. Needless to say the clutch is slipping like crazy and I am starting to get really frustrated by the money pit now.
I spent the evening looking for the leak and couldnt find it. I figured it would be obvious. Brake fluid topped off, power steering topped off, I cant seem to find the clutch resovoir. So, its coming out again when I decide what clutch to go with. I am kinda digging the spec stg3+. I like the idea that its a full face clutch and its rated for 550tq. My FX400 being a sprunng six puck did seem to chatter a little with my modded LWFW.
Any suggestions for a clutch. I never launch the car, it probably will never see track duty. I just need it to hold when the boost comes on fast and hard.

I am going to loose it.
I cant find where all that fluid came from. The clutch pedal still has good pressure. The clutch does seem to release a bit differently, but I dont know how much of that can be attributed to the fact that it was saturated with fluid. My brake fluid res. is till topped off and thats puzzling me considering how much fluid seeamed to be blown all over my bay. I do have a funky rattling sound now coming from the clutch area. It goes away when I press in the pedal.
I am lost. How does a leak seem to fix itself? I havent seen any fluid since it happened, which would lead me to believe that wherever the fluid came from is probably now empty.

whats up man... long time no talk.. but i am happy to hear you got it for the most part running.. just figure out that leak and upgrade the clutch and you will be good to go.. just wait to you get to break 25psi.. 25psi seems to be like a huge warp in power after taht point.. it will kinda scare u when u hear what sounds like the turbo downspooling.. when its really not.. just the way it sounds at that point... The clutch i run is FX8500 Mini Twin and the driving is really smooth and nice compared to the Spec Stage 3+ engagement we had before that got destroyed by this turbo... I am still waiting on parts to fix my issues.. and hope to have my car back up and running after the issue on the interstate...keep in touch man..

I dabbled in the 20+psi range by accident and it was pretty wicked. I keep saying I have a vid of it happening, but I cant find my cable so i can upload it.
As of now I am hunting down a transmission since the fluid that ruined my clutch wasnt from my slave...found that out the hardway after all four wheels locking up on a offramp.
I also need to track down another turbine housing since my little plate with the slots is seized and I think is warped from my car running with no timing and getting waaay tooo hot. My VGT isnt closing down all the way, and now the car feels like I have a 35r in it. Boost comes on ~4k to 4.5k.

1. Hells yea on breaking the tires free when you hit boost. I've done it on rare occasions, and it almost makes you laugh when you realize how much power it really is.
2. Sucks on the trans, my guess is that it was the plug on the side of it. Its like a T60 plug or something, but they come loose.
3. I have a Southbend Stage 4. I've launched it 50+ times with 450+awhp and no problems. I've even broken a FW and 3 transmissions in the meantime. I couldn't be any happier with it

well, today I drove 2 hours in traffic to get to some guys shop...that didnt know the address, or city better yet. This punk said he lives in Everett, so I am like cool. Me and the girl can shoot down ther right after work. Turns out he stays in Marysville. If you arent from around here driving from Renton to Everett is maybe 30-45 mins. with traffic in the carpool lanes at around 3pm. Marysville is the next neighboring city up from Everett, but for some reason it will take over an hour to get from exit 183 to exit 199. Then Dude didnt know how to pronounce street names. He aid left on Bruce street....he meant Grove street. Only way I found that out was by having him spell it. So, more time wasted driving around in MARYSVILLE looking for a no-existent street. Then I finally meet up with him, and he takes me yet another 20 or so minutes out into the backwoods. At this point I am wishing I grabbed a pistola on my way out the door.
Finally I get to this little dirt road that lead to this garage and therer was this totalled yellow a4. First thing I do is go check to see if it had a push down shifter, sure nuff it does. So, I am like jeez, I never really checked to see where the push down feature comes from. The shifter and I am fine, the tranny and I aint with it at all. I think push down reverse is hella lame. I start trying to call 034 and my local shops, and we are so far into BFE that I have no reception. After not really being able to determine what to do at this point I just tell ole boy that I have to get back at him another time.

All the pressure plate bolts are there. I dont have the slightest clue as to where this bolt came from. I was thinking maybe it got lucky and fell in one of the holes on top of the trans where you can see the flywheel through. Myabe I am just so irresponsible that I leave random bolts all over my engine bay. I really dont know at this point. I guess its good to know where the mystery fluid came from.

hmmmm. So is the trans toast? Or are you going to patch it?
I'm trying to think about that bolt. Does it have a 5mm or 6mm head?
SpeedWorksAuto
07-29-2010, 04:57 PM
I believe it was a 6mm bolt. But that tranny is toast and its replacement is already mounted. I just need to connect everything and Its all done.
To add insult to injury, I took my manifold and associated crap in to work today to check it for flatness on the granite slab, because I was getting massive exhaust leaks. Sure enough the ATP logger is warped all to hell again. I am sure the ultra high EGT from the low timing situation didnt help. I really want to go another direction for that part of my build right now. I am thinking more along the lines of V-Bands on the mani and the turbo. and something like a SPA-ish setup. They look a bit more robust and have been shown to make a bit more power.

I finally was able to upload one of the yucky videos I tried to take when it was all together last. This was when I was on the freeway in third gear and I was slowly giving it gas. The boost came on all of the sudden, the tires let loose a lil bit, and I had to quickly grab for the wheel while holding the camera. I never really expected the car to get a bit squirmy. I had just added my MBC and aparently I needed to back it off quite a bit.

It is holding better than it was before actually. I babied it over to my buddies house and I took a few people for rides. With two other people in the car and around 20psi the clutch didnt slip one bit. I was really shocked.
So, you can clean a clutch disk. Mine was a prime example since it had all the tranny fluid shot on it, and sat in the fluid for over a week.
Bad news, I think I need a new starter now.

I have beenworking on my tuning a bit and was able to add a ton of timing to the mid to low load range of the pump gas timing map. It has improved overall driveability, off boost response, and helps me get into boost where the fun happens a bit faster.
NOW, the real treat is when you get into the throttle vs. airflow map.
base throttle vs airflow map:

This tweak alone has made the car so much more responsive. I am still working on getting it just right. IF you give it too much too soon the car will be a on off switch when it comes to the throttle....think sprint booster. So far I have made the transition from off boost to on way smoother. I think I have dropped the lag a few hundred more RPM. I dont know for sure what was going on with this map base, but i just didnt like the large jump from 5o something percent throttle to 100%. It seemed to me like it had lag dialed in to the throttle. I added a larger range of numbers to make it more of a curve, and I was able to get 10 psi by 3500rpms with my VGT not even closing down all the way. When my new turbine housing gets here, I think this is gonna be pretty nice since it should drop the lag by a few hundred more rpms.

So, on to the breaking of things part. My turbo is now a paper weight. I guess the EXTREME high EGTs I got from running on the ultra ultra low timing map caused things to distort alot. First off the ring in my turbine housing siezed up. I ordered a new turbine housing, andthe vanes wont seat fully in the slots. Look again and they are all very slightly tweaked. I can see where they were hitting the slots the close down into. I tried fitting everything together, got a bit overzealous with a hammer (frustration) and now I have another one on the way.
Im also considering welding the turbine housing to the manifold/adapter like mentioned previously in the thread by Storx. I just cant keep this heavy turbo and manifold mated together leak free, and I dont think I can properly tune this thing with massive exhaust leaks.

Shop said they had to cut the head apart. The junk that seized it all together was plastic. I dont know where that crap came from.
Did the plastic windage tray shatter and melt when you busted the oil pan?

I've heard of windage trays melting...

Ya know, I forgot all about the plastic windage tray down there. I havent been able to pull the bottom end out yet so I wont be 100% yet. I will hopefully have time this weekend.
As far as spool, Its pretty much like that in all gears. I chose a higher gear so I could film it. In lower gears everything happens too fast. Just add this to the video I posted a page or so back and you get the idea. I am still tweaking my VGT settings though because sometimes it isnt really smooth. Up to about 10 psi it is a nice gradual pull, but past that I think the VGT is being pushed wide open and it cen get pretty scary if I wasnt trying to get on it. Maybe I just need to tune my throttle maps a bit.

Did you get an oil pressure warning from the raccoon incident?
SpeedWorksAuto
10-31-2010, 08:43 PM
Well, it probably wasnt the oil leaking that killed it, but the fact that there was plastic blocking the passages. The windage tray was a no-show today when I pulled the oil pan. I sure hope he can get all that crap cleaned out of the passages.

Sounds like you overheated the motor pretty good if you melted down the windage tray and cycled it thru the motor. You prolly want the shop to check both the block and head for warpage and cracks! If need be, I have a AEB cylinder head core I had planned to use for my rebuild (I think you know the one I'm talking about). It's still at the machine shop with a clean bill of health... I had it checked and pressure tested, and all is good.

Nah, I am god. They already rebuilt me a head. I sent you pictures today. The pistons are toast...major scuf***e. Needless to say I have a lot of figuring to do. Dave @ IE said hes got a set of 83mm 9.5:1 strokers on the shelf. If I go that route I will need to get a new block reworked...OR, I can get some 83.5mm pistons, and have the block opened up. Down side to that is I have to wait 2-3 weeks for them from JE.

Well, I ve been told the older 32 valve 4.2 (not sure of engine codes yet) are a bit stronger. But, like the guy said the 2000+ 4.2 40 valve are DBW and will be easier to integrate to the car....If I decide to stay N/A.
I really want to boost it, maybe run a low pressure setup, and make a reliable good amount of power. My problem right now is engine management. I know I can get it to run with the stock ECU, but I really would rather get this thing together witht he intentions of boost. The only option I have right now is 034 and they arent exactly cheap with their SEM.

A shop locally has built two single turbo S4's... but they cut out the second firewall and placed the turbo at the top rear of the motor. They turned out really sweet. The shop that helped locally was R-style performance, but VAST was a big contributor, as well as several other sponsors. The guy was doing one of the conversions for his senior design project for the University of Cincinnati (OCAS). I had seen it in person several times since I occasionally stop by to get some maintenance done on my cars as well as shoot the Schtuff with Chris (Owner of R-style).

Gumpert and Spyker don't have a problem with it. Ever hear of Heffner's R8 twin turbo?
"The Apollo uses a 4163 cc bi-turbo intercooled version of the Audi V8 engine.[7] The 90° V8 has a closed-deck light metal crankcase with dry sump lubrication. The light metal cylinder heads have five valves per cylinder, four overhead camshafts, VarioCam Direct variable valve timing on the intakes, and hydraulic valve clearance compensation. The double-flow exhaust system has four oxygen sensors to monitor the gas mixture, and a 3-way catalytic converter. Modern controls include an on-board diagnostic system, eight-coil electronic ignition, sequential multipoint fuel injection, and an electronic (drive by wire) accelerator system.
There are 3 engine types available:
Base version - approximately 650 PS (478 kW; 641 bhp)
Sport version - approximately 700 PS (515 kW; 690 bhp)
Race version - approximately 800 PS (588 kW; 789 bhp)"
I could live with a 789 horse 4.2 tt. It wouldn't suck.

I saw the ones from High volume. I didnt like the thumb screw on the clamp. I also have been looking at the mvs clamps and flanges, but I cant find any definate info as to how big the I.D. is. From a technical sheet I saw from Tial, I think the 38mm the wastegate inlet flange is 1.93" OD at the weld end. The wastegate discharge is 1.675" OD at the weld end. So, it should mate up to 1-1/2" SCH 10 piping. I am going to use 1 1/4 piping for the manis, so i will need to transition to the bigger size.

This whole ordeal kinda sets me back about a week. I planned to have it in the car for final fit, and back out again to drop off at the welder today.
I am really nervous about a completely solid setup. If it tweaks any while he is welding it, I am worried it won't fit back together. I don't want to run flex joints because I don't trust them that much, since I am using that thick piping it should be more than adequate to deal with the stress.

Still at it just getting worn out and frustrated. Parts are still being sourced and I think the remaining parts are payed for just waitin on some vendors to get it together and send them.
Funny how I have been having problem after problem with vendors here, and I tell my local Audi friends about the vendor and they are all like "DUH! we could have told you they suck". Kinda wish the forum was more informative. I mean if it were a private seller and they were screwing up, it would be all over the place. Let one of theses so called "reputable" vendors do the same thing, and it goes unspoken of. Why? I ahve so much wasted time and energy that I almost gave up on this project...hell, the car all together. If they suck, people should know so that the next man can make a informed decision on where to get his parts from, and maybe the vendor would get a chance to see that they do suck, and get their act together.

It was 034 They told him they would next day his stuff and he would have it on Thurs. there was a problem with the transaction and they droped the ball and didnt get back to him. It sucks because they had days to make it right. If he had not called them or checked his bank statements he would be waiting for an order that was never coming. Now My question is what did they do to make it right? You are right if this was one of us we would be put on blast.

To put it short yeah. That was part of the story dealing with 034. I called them everyday since I placed the order, and anybody that answered the phone didn't have any answers.....only that KEN was going to call me back. When he did call me back, today, Friday....mind you I made the order on Tuesday, he said my card didn't go through, but "we got a bad connection and he would call me back in a minute". This was @ like 9am. So, when I called him back at 5:45pm I cancelled my order, and I don't think I will be doing business with them again. Not only was the guy dealing with me not upfront, the parade each person put on when I called really pissed me off to say the least. If the shit wasn't there or there was an issue why didn't someone just say so on the many times I called? On and on and on....I can keep going but in the end, this whole transaction sucked, and I am glad it wasn't a really high dollar purchase.
This is just one of the vendors on here that I have been dealing with that has subpar service. I just can't get over the fact that these vendors want to charge an ARM and a leg for their product, and then the service totally sux. Makes me question their whoie business.
Makes we wish I didn't deal with this clickish ass brand and its flakey ass aftermarket in the first place.
So far the only company that has been there for me through all of this crap is Integrated Engineering...highly recommend them, and my boy in Arizona "fuk it" motorsport.

Hell, I remember a few months ago I was ready to buy one of their expensive ass ecu, and I just got till time after time someone was gonna call me back once they figure out what all I need and how much. I had cash waiting to buy, and I had to keep calling them to try and get them to stop dragging their feet. I figured if it was this hard to get them to take my money, how hard would it be for me to actually get help when I needed it with the product. I mean, they do swear up and down that they offer so much support, stand by their product blah blah blah.

As soon as I tried to get away from a 4cyl build and had to use other vendors for my build, I have been regretting it almost everyday since. Literally been problems since day one.
THEY ARE NOT THE ONLY VENDOR I HAVING PROBLEMS WITH.
The thing that really bugs me is that have everything at my disposal hardware wide to totally phase them out of my builds, I just dint have the time since I am so slammed at work.

I hear ya bother. I had similar problems with them that I specifically mentioned in my build thread. Not only that, but also poor build quality of parts.
Getting them to ship something in a timely manner is like pulling teeth. Not that long ago I went back for more punishment and ended canceling my order.
Either way. I'm sorry to hear your build is suffering from it. Keep us posted... Supplier issues and all.

Took two steps back yesterday. I had to hack apart my crossover where the wastegate tube is and fit in new piping and a flex section. Not extremely satisfied with the results but it should work ok.
Would have been nice to have the smaller flex tube so I could rework the semi finished downpipe instead. But........
Next I'm going to take the stock turbo drain tubes, hack them apart, and weld -10 fitting on one, and block the other off.

OK, do you have any more info on the compressor wheel on the left? I've seen them on the Bullseye Power site but couldn't figure out if they were for real or if it was some kind of April Fool's gag. Assuming they're for real, has anyone ran them back to back vs an equivalent straight edged billet compressor to see if they actually work any better? I've read the technical posts that Bullseye has put up, and they seem like an interesting design. However without any real testing, it's just speculation to me at this point.
Also, mad respect for what you're doing man. Not very many people here that are actually doing their own fabrication work and all. I had a similar scenario this summer with my build. It's a LOT of friggin' work when you're doing all the fabrication. I know the last bits when you're tired, frustrated and worn out can suck, but just push through it. You look like you're going to have a wicked setup man, it'll be worth it all in the end. Looking forward to seeing it done [up]

Its called the BatMoWheel.
Dynos are there for back to back. I think I saw that people are seeing arpound 40hp on gas motors, and since these are made for Holset too (diesel) they are seeing like 2 billion ft pound of torque and like 6hp in those applications too...J/K.
I think this is where I am going to be buying mine from:

OK, but in the Supra thread, it was compared to a non extended tip GT series turbo (GT 42?). I'd really like to see a test against a billet extended tip turbo. i.e. 366 ETT billet w a straight leading edge vs a 366 ETT w the Batmowheel edge.
No harm in getting one I guess, but I have to wonder how much power it adds above and beyond a similar compressor.

I don even think BW sells the wheel separate for their turbos. Dude said it comes on the new turbos only IIRC. I kind of recall him telling a few people that in either that thread or somewhere else. The only one I found that was wheel only was for the holsets. In the supra guys thread there was a story about the sucess of the wheel in a diesel app. in post#32
http://i360.photobucket.com/albums/oo43/SpeedWorksAutoTuning/asfdasdf.jpg
"Congrats to Aron Nick from Blacks Diesel for winning the Super Stock Quick 16 in Bradenton. After months of dyno testing we decided to switch from our standard billet wheel to the new "BatMoWheel" right there at the track during test and tune. This immediately picked him up a tenth and 2 mph on the very next run. Then we installed our race cover for eliminations which put this truck in the 10's for the first time. All in all this truck picked up 3 tenths in the quarter mile which put him in the finals and ultimately won the race. "
*ADD...I guess, after reading the quote, they might do the wheel seperately.

Makes sense why the connector names on the 1.8t side are a bit awkward. Back to Google to see if I can pull up the info, Chiltons isnt cutting it
