Hello,
I have been interested in getting an B7 Audi a4 2.0t quattro or an earlier infinti g35 coupe. How do these two vehicles compare performance wise off the line and from a rolling stop? How would the audi compare after a chip? I know Revo claims 255/290. Also, how does the handling around corners compare for the two cars. Would a test pipe help much? I heard that it can give gains up to 20 hp? is this true? input from people with the a4 2.0t who raced a g35 coupe would be nice or people who have owned both cars. Thanks for all the info.

all i can say is that i used to smoke g35'S/350z when i had my 02 WRx with some mods!!
They are really not that fast they do look good especially the ones with the brembo brakes!

These topics have been covered a million times on here. Do search for G35, test pipe, chip, etc. and read. You will find what you are looking for.

A test pipe would help but not nearly enough. I came from a g35 and miss the sportiness of the coupe (a4 2008 b7). Handling wise, AWD all the way and its a completely different drive. The build quality of the Audi is far superior than the audi , interior and exterior. What are you looking for in a car? For all the stats-rolling stop etc, just check out edmunds.com or g35driver.com
Let me know if there are any more specific q's i can help since i was in a g35 coupe 6mt before the a4 6mt 2.0T

baaahhhh, g35 are overrated, they claim 286-294hp, but only put down 220 to the wheels,
raced to of them from a rolling 10 mph and had em by 1 car and half.
i had a 1.8t giac chip, test pipe, FMIC

i would say the g35 sounds good, but cheaply made in some ways. I test drove it and was not impressed.
power wise, it is obviously faster than stock A4, but like they said a couple mods and feels great. :)

answer to most of your testpipe questions: http://audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185926
I'm putting in a testpipe within the next few days so i'll chime in more.
As for the G35, I just dont like it. The car is too heavy and steering feels sluggish and imprecise. I only like the distinct exhaust note that it makes but if I were to choose a car with the VR38DETT engine in it, I'd get a 350Z. The sedan is ugly not to mention.

I had a G35 (not the coupe) and while I thought it was a great daily-driver sedan, the fuel economy was the same as one of my SUVs and it wasn't as quick as I thought it should have been. The G35 was definitely not as nicely appointed as the Mercedes or Audi for the subjective "quality feel". The A4 2.0T I added to my "fleet" easily out-handles the G35 and with the REVO upgrade certainly out-accelerates the G35 and gives me peace of mind by limiting my environmental impact while enjoying it.
The G35x was obviously on my short list when looking for a better all-season-personal-long-distance vehicle (I liked the G35, make no mistake). However, compared to the A4, S4 and A6 cars I drove, the Audi line was a notch better than the G35. The A4 2.0T quattro can easily outrun a G35 in tight turns, even a G35x, and when chipped an A4 is quicker if you have a manual trans. The powerband of a chipped 2.0T is much broader than the G35 powerplant (and with more tuning options, too) and is a pleasure to drive with the taut, balanced Audi chassis.
The Infinity G35 (and Lexus IS350 for that matter) are not as solid feeling as the A4. I think of the A4 as a my mini AMG S55 when it's just me traveling alone. With a group of 3 or 4, the big car or one of the SUVs gets the nod.

what year is the G35 coupe? Also are you buying stick or auto?
05 and up G35 Sport Manual packs 298 HP while the auto packs 280HP
This is what you need to mod if you are buying a VQ (G35 and 350Z)
06 and up 350Z MAF stock intake and K&N drop in
Motordyne 1/16 Iso spacer
true dual exhaust (notably HKS)
this will put you around 30HP over stock (I dont think you want to go FI)
If it was up to me I'll get the G35 (the note from the VQ is truly ubiquitous)

the sedan is nowhere near the coupe. The 07 and up sedans are nice but anything below that is subpar
The 2.0T Quattro will out handle the G35 coupe as its a RWD vehicle. But depending on the mods on the G35 it will outperform a modded 2.0T

^ I agree with that and to back some things up...
The G35 coupe is a much superior car when modded correctly.
One friend of mine has put out ~1000+ rwhp (~1300+hp at the crank- the dynonk reads 968 because it can't read his power figures any higher :P) in one G35 Coupe: http://g35driver.com/forums/cars-sale/231729-968hp-now-dynapack-g35-sale-price-dropped-almost-20000-a.html
Another friend of mine won 3rd place in last year's Sport Compact Car Ultimate Street Car Challenge: http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/features/0711_sccp_2003_infiniti_g35_coupe/index.html
I have a 2006 B7 with Quattro AWD, APR 91, KW V3s, Hotchkis RS4 sways, and corner-balanced: I love the car as it is right now. It may not be the fastest thing out there overall but I can really hold it down when there are lots of twisties involved.

The g35 is a beast, especially if your getting the new 330hp V6. I think you need to look at the entire package: awd, options, interior, how you feel driving it, etc. Because the g35 wins in performance.

I was in the same boat.
I drove both and bought the Audi the next week.
Interior quality/fit/finish made the decision for me.

I strongly considered a g35. one of my friends has the g35 coupe and another has the g35x sedan. both are very nice, but here are the reasons i went A4- 1. too many people have G's while few have true S-lines around here. 2. Gas mileage is better in A4. 3. fit and finish is MUCH nicer and more classy in A4. 4. while the g coupe is sexier looking, it did not offer AWD and the A4 sline looks sexier than the g sedan IMO. 5. free scheduled maintenance on 2006 a4. If i bought a G it would be made faster than my a4, but my overall cost of ownership would be higher for an inferior vehicle.

Hey thanks for all the input guys. Yeah i was considering the earlier 03 and 04 models with "280" hp. Yeah i definitely agree the A4 is of a much better build quality, exterior wise and especially interior wise. The car also is a lot more refined than the G35. The G35 sedans are ugly, that;s why I was only looking at the coupe, which still looks pretty nice. Yeah i would def be getting the 6spd for the a4. Yeah i basically asked this question for the performance aspect. I knew the a4 was a better quality car and suspected it would have better handling. I just wanted to see if it could keep up with the g35 so it would have the whole package. It def seems that with a couple mods such as chip, test pipe, and fmic it could keep up with the g35 if not start taking it. Also, I love that the a4 is a turbo and has such a good modding capability. For the money you put into it you can really get some performance whereas if i got a g35 i wouldnt do anything to it just because it doesnt seem you can make it significantly faster without putting a lot of money into it to mod the NA engine and it wouldnt be a lot faster unless you really got a turbo for it, but I'm not trying to spend my money on that. The A4 is def more practical then especially considering the AWD to give it better handling esp in the snow and also better gas mileage and I;ve heard a lot of G35 guys complain about gas consumption and oil consumption and squeaks and noises in the interior lol.

im a younger guy and a stick g35 with exhaust is a car with some respect attatched to it. an a4 is a more widley known car for moms and such. i got the a4 because i found a good deal on one that i liked and i wanted to mod it away from being a typical oc car. i pulled on a stock g35 with my stage I, i am now stage II. i assume the g35 was auto because i destroyed it off the line

Even if you get the g35 coupe, dont get a g35 stick- my brother has the 05 one and the entire last and current generations G's have had terrible stick shifts. I've heard the same opinion from drivers/owners and mags who rate the car.

Where I live G35's are consistently being vandalized. For some reason i guess its the cool thing to do around here is try to steal those cars. I have a friend with on and within a month she didn't have her drivers side door handle...

I had an 04 G35 coupe with the factory Brembo's in Maunual. I also had Eibach suspension. The G35 was a fun car and looks better than the A4. Speed wise I have the APR 93, testpipe and all suspension shit below. My car now feels faster because of the turbo but I never raced one.
Overall I liked/miss the G's gearbox and ease of sliding out but I needed AWD and good gas mileage becasue the G sucks balls in fuel economy. It's actually the same as my 08 M3.
