View Full Version : !!! GSG Motorsports CAI is in production !!!
GhostSquadGarage

Completely tested to my fullest standards and I sent the finalized prototype out for production today !
The sound is absolutely AMAZING !!!
The gains have been minimal per graphical data but the booty dyno don't lie !
MUCH improved throttle response and combined with the FMIC this thing feels like it got chipped all over again.
Our CAI will ONLY work with a FMIC installed.
The SMIC's will not support the design and in lieu of this we will be offering our FMIC at a more than reasonable price if you want to pickup the combo of both.
Also ATP is selling their FMIC for a great price as well, I believe around $750-$790 at different places. We will offer ours in the same ballpark for a limited time should you decide to pick it up as well.
I will have vids up tonight once I get done with some other projects.
Just keeping you guys updated !! This is the best thing I've made to date.

you said... a FMIC installed... so you're saying any FMIC will work with your CAI?
GhostSquadGarage
09-22-2008, 03:33 PM
Because this is not routed the same as the CAI's that every other company has made.
This is routed down so it will scoop in actual fresh air from the lower passenger grill.
It's also been tested in rain situations and I have it setup perfectly so the MAF is protected and there is no risk of anything getting wet.
The passenger SMIC would be in the way of the location, so if you're looking to stay with the stockers then our intake pipe is your best bet as of now.
Yes this will work with the other FMIC's, not just ours so you have the option to choose what you will as long as the smic is removed you're good to go !
The dyno only showed marginal gains but I will have to redyno it once the final product is in. For the prototype I use less quality materials than I would in the full production models so that will reflect changes.
Now taking preorders on these as well. I'm sure they'll go out of stock faster than the intake pipe did [wrench] PM me or Laurence@gsg for more info on this.

Have to wait to see what production cost is per the amount of units I'm having made.

just a heads up, the intake is insane!!!
More torque, quicker acceleration and that was with running a cheesy intake filter and not the one they will be using for the kit.
In combination with the fmic, gains are great...trust me =D

The sound is a bit more noticeable, but not extreme of setting off alarms. If you are running an intake now, its basically the same sound with a bit louder woosh

09-22-2008, 08:46 PM
The growl/whoosh should be louder than any cole filter/short ram. The sound resonates down the tube to make it louder I guess, but engines have always been louder with a CAI (in a good way). Sounds sweet [:)]

Dang Jordan, your company is making some really sick stuff for our car! I love it!
GhostSquadGarage
09-23-2008, 01:41 AM
Loving the response !!
The sound is definately more noticeable. I couldn't believe it at 1st either that it was still the stock DV, but since we all know Randy's car is pretty much all stock you can't argue with that [wrench] The whoosh is even better than the intake pipe. I guess the only drawback (if you can even call it that) is it will only fit with a FMIC. More reason to mod right ?
How about 2 pics to get you guys more excited ?
This took a WHILE to get right, where the design was actually improving airflow and pulling in the correct amount as well. You have no idea the amount of welding and testing and rewelding and rebuilding and structuring this fluid curve took.
Obviously the production piece will look a billion times better than this and the filter will be way better and more effecient than the crap that's on there.
Just look at the room you're going to have where the old stock box used to be. I'm trying to think of ideas to spice up that area as well but it looks pretty sweet just being empty IMO. I'm very much a minimalist mindset to begin with.

You could easily powder coat the piping textured black or satin black.
You could also fabricate a nice aluminum panel that will close off that open space with the tube running thru it.
I work for one of the largest powder coaters in S.Florida.
We are coating some BMW intakes in textured black. It gives it a completely OEM look.

GhostSquadGarage
09-24-2008, 07:59 AM
^^^Nope. Already had that worry and with revisions and exact locating of the piece it's completely free of that.
Tested this for months in Washington for that reason alone, since it doesn't rain here in SoCal.
We noticed a little bit of water with earlier revisions of it but since the final one has been made and located it's been staying completely dry and worry free.
Obviously if you were to drive through like 3ft deep of water it's going to be submersed but if your taking your Audi boating regularly you probably shouldn't have an intake to begin with hahahah

Blast, I regularly drive through something like 1-2+ ft of water since here in NO it floods like a mofo.
GhostSquadGarage
09-24-2008, 10:45 AM
^^^AEM makes a piece that would prevent that as well.
Just throw it behind the filter and it prevents sucking in water even when submersed. As long as you're not WOT blasting through 3' deep puddles you're going to be fine.
id be spending big bucks for basically sound

where is the air going to be coming from exactly? from the way it looks the bumper is going to be in the way of the cone entirely, unless its near the the mesh. But as far as I know a CAI will normally get air from the ground, our car's have covers under our engine where no air is coming in. How will this intake have any gain over our OEM setup, where the air is coming from the hole in the passenger fender?

From what I understand it will be where the side mount is currently on a stock car, so the "ducting" that fed the side mount will be providing air to the filter which is the perfect location to have it. [up] to GSG for this design.

CAI will be $375. (this is pipe AND filter so nothing else is needed)
The GSG TIP\Intake Pipe does NOT work with this setup as it is the complete package and thus you DO NOT need to buy both.
The CAI REQUIRES a FMIC to be installed on the car. Period.
FMIC will be reduced to $800 for people that are needing one still.
Don't forget this includes the upper piping AND a power steering cooler, both of which are not offered on other kits with the exception on AWE.
This will fit any other aftermarket FMIC's. I've tested on all I know except for Greddy but I'm confident it will fit on that as well as the piping seems to run the same as others.
Our CAI is the ONLY ONE on the market that actually pulls in fresh air and not heated underhood engine bay air. It pulls it fresh from the passenger bumper grill area so you can be assured temps are going to be over 40% cooler that is getting pulled into the engine than the conventional CAI's on the market.
Free shipping on the combo.

***I have a small number of initial units coming in and already have several presold quite a few so if you are interested in getting one out of the 1st shipment you might want to jump in soon.
These will be released the 1st week of December and ship out on the 2nd week just in time for Christmas. You WILL GET IT before the 25th if you order in time.
The next arrival of units is going to be sometime in late January so if you're not ready now then that's when I expect the next batch to be in.
6hp \ 5tq increase are the official dyno results.
The last one we did with the FMIC and TIP yielded 162hp\193tq.
Same setup but with the CAI in place of the TIP is 168hp\198tq.
The stock car put down 153hp\170tq so that is a total increase of +15hp\+28tq. That's around a 15% increase in power across the board.
Very sucessful results and around what I had anticipated. Given the amazing sound and proven performance this is going to be a must have for anyone looking to vastly improve their engine and overall just start to truely enjoy the car like it was brand new again.
