Hey guys/gals. New to the board, and hopefully Audi. I'm looking for some advice here. What do you think?
Saw this offer, and I think I might jump on it. I'm looking to pick something up this month, and have been looking for a few months. Came down to an S60r, A4, or G35.
This lease deal is pretty tempting...$399, 10K miles, $0 down except for taxes/title.
Went to the dealer, drove her around, and had a blast. They even had one loaded exactly how I wanted with the convenience packge, nav, and black on black. Upgrading these options and to 15K miles per year, comes out to $2,500 down and $538 a month.
What do you guys think of this?
Also, they're offering the service package for $650. Good deal? Bad deal? Worth it or not?

I think you can STEAL the B7s right now on a purchase... now is NOT the time to lease.

Definitely can do a lot better than that with a purchase. Especially a slightly used car with low miles.

X3.... the dollar isn't worth piss in this economy, so leasing is not wise when it comes to any car that is not from the U.S.!

I thought so too myself...however after doing the math...I think I'd be upside-down after three years. I'm the type that likes to change every few years, and with the features I want, the price is quite high. Even with the dealer cash and working a deal...you're about $39K OTD. Add interest and all that and I'm paying a boat load on the car.
Going used would be good, but still looking at about 27K+ with decent miles loaded how I'd like it.
The buyout on the Lease is $19K, so I think it'd be worth more than that after 3 years, and I could even buy it and resell it for a little more.
I'd be getting an amazing car for about $500 a month, be clean after 3 years, and the down payment isn't much for what leases normally ask (only $2,500). I could be totally wrong here, I'm new to leases, but seems like a good deal.
Can someone point me in a better direction for buying if I'm wrong here and I can get a better deal?
Thanks for the replies.

What I did:
1) make them lower the down payment
2) make them lower the monthly payment
3) make them add the service package at no cost.
4) if they don't budge on the numbers make them add all kinds of other stuff FOR FREE that they try to sell you after the fact, i.e. tire coverage, rim coverage, the gap insurance (if your regular insurance doesn't do that). there are numerous things you can ask for.

Thanks. Are you able to do this on a lease?? I know when buying cars you can work the deal, but I thought leasing was more set.
Gap insurance covers that gap between what you owe and what the cars is worth. For example, you drive off the lot and a week later total your brand new $40K car. It's only worth $35K but you owe $40K...so the gap is $5K. Dealers usually charge about $500 to $700 for Gap. If you finance a car with State Farm (yes I work for them), Gap is included for free in your loan. Otherwise unless you put down a nice downpayment or buy used (and buy well so you're not immediatly upside down), you'll want this to cover you just in case.

That's an awesome deal. Sounds unbelievable. Like literally so good it sounds unbelievable!! Where did you buy it from (name of dealer)? Was it a promotion they had or just how you worked the deal. From my research I dont think I'm able to find anything close to that.

what you really should do is act as if you're gonna buy the car and negotiate the sticker price from the start.
when you've finally gotten as far down as you can, tell the guy you want to lease it. he will then work off of that number. then begin negotiating again.

I just got the same deal (minus the Navi [>_>]) 3 weeks ago at Prestige in North Miami Beach. I had them throw in the Audi Maintenance, Audi Sun Visor and for about 20 bucks less a month.
All in all it was $1200 down (inception fees + taxes + etc) which was put on the Audi Visa with no interest for 6 months and I couldnt be happier.

Sounds good. How did you get them to go $1,200 down for tax/title/etc. Is that the real amount? As in the real amount taxes should be, or did you talk them down?
The car is $38,300 and in Chicago (DuPage County) taxes are 7.65%. With title and doc fees comes out to about $2,800, but they just went with $2,500 down. Can I haggle this with them? Do I have a chance at them knocking it down?
If I went in there and said $1,200 down, free maintenance package, and $20 off the monthly...is that doable?

My cousin works for Volvo, and sent me to this guy at Audi because they worked together for Autonation back in the day. I was discussing this with him, and he decided to give the salesman a call and figure something out for me.
He dropped the downpayment from $2,500 to $1,000. So we're getting somewhere. Now if I can get them to reduce the payment $20 or throw in that maintenance package we might have a deal. What do you guys think?

My lease consisted of $1,200 down (pay for fee, taxes, title), 10k a year, 2 year lease all for $347 a month. On top of that my insurance is $172. So im under 550 just to drive the car. Didn't need heated seats since its hot here all the time, and dont need NAV if i know where im going. Wish i would've got AWD and straight drive though. Not really diggin the CVT FWD but can't complain about not feeling the gears. Going from a beefed up 450 hp 3rd gen camaro to this is like going from a Yugo to a Bently - Just a dream. haha.

My cousin talked to the salesman (his old co-worker) and the general manager yesterday, and they threw in the maintenance package too.
So now we're looking at a 2008 A4 2.0T Special Edition with upgraded miles to 15K, added convenience and navi (so fully loaded) with ipod connection. SE comes with the wheels, heated seats, and 1 year of satellite radio. $1,000 Down, $538/mo and free maintenance package. Sound like a pretty good deal now?
I guess they're not really budging on this one anymore because its the only fully loaded SE they have, and they don't know if they'll get more.

That is still a hell of alot of money for that car. I just called my dealer cuz I need ANOTHER car and he gave me similar terms on both the Q7 and almost identical terms for an A6 3.2Q. (Neither have Nav though)

Q7's are nice...if I needed another SUV I'd be all over it I think.
The convenience and NAV add $2100 each, and also this is the quattro model. Teh base special editions start at $399 @ 10K miles...so Im sure working off that I could get the payment down further. But with the 3 add ons I'm not sure sure I can get them to lower the payment. Would it be asking too much to have them lower the dp from $2500 to $1000 and throw in the convenience package...AND ask for lower monthly?
When/if I'm ready to do the deal...I may just call em' up and tell them if we could work it to like $510 a month, I'll come in and sign. They know I have been looking at a G35 so maybe I have some leverage over the phone. Figure if I go in there and sit down, they might not be hesitant to work as I'm already there, but to get me in the door again...maybe.

the best way to get a good deal is to email them and ask for a quote on the car and the options your looking, this way they cant see that your emotionally attached or already set on that car and will give u a better starting point then just walking in. This is what my two friends always suggest one is a finance manager, the other is a actual salesman. just my two cents.

When figuring out a lease price...are you really supposed to go in and pretend like you're buying it, set the selling price, then negotiate the lease off that? I didn't think that's how it works for some reason but seems like thats what some people are saying.

Yes you can negotiate your lease terms for sure. And 500+ is still high for that car, even with the options your getting. The matience program for a lease really does diddly squat unless your gonna buy it in the end. But myself? Nah i'll just change my oil every 5k and check out the fluids and such. Seriously, only get what you plan on using. Look out for yourself, before you look out for the dealers sake when the lease is over. The day that lease ends, is the day you get to turn your keys in and say "seeya!". haha. My mom pays $600 a month for a fully loaded Mercedes SLK350 and at the time it was priced at just under $60k on the sticker, and she gets 15k a year with free maintenance.

haha not a dime was put down on the benz. Just with their credit, all the parents had to do was sign paper. Yes it is a fantastic deal, being friends with the other also scores brownie points. But all in all, the car would be a $800 a month lease or higher if it weren't for the outstanding credit and owner of the dealer's help. But even my lease is a score because im a tech. on the GM side of the dealership that has VW, Audi, Porsche as well as Toyota, Nissian, Hummer, Chevrolet, and Cadillac. But definetly talk them down to the 400's. 500 is a wee bit high for a A4 in my opinion, id go to a BMW or mercedes or a model line up on Audi before i spend $500

Thanks for the update. I'm sure they got a great deal, but still putting money onto Audi Credit vs. putting money down equates to the same thing...its still money that needs to be paid, so if they put a lot down...then that changes the whole scenario. $0 down and $600 month is much > than $7K down and $600. That's why I was asking.
Thanks again to everyone. Keep the lease terms coming!! I want as much ammo as I can before I go in there and put in my final offer.

This same deal is going right now for $399 with $0 down just taxes and all that which is about $2,800. So figure you got the exact promotion right now, but got them to go $323 vs. the $399 + some free winter floor mats. Not bad. 10K miles? And + convenience looks like.
This is the same thing I'm looking at except $1,000 down, free maintenance, add NAV, add 5K miles per year. So $215 more per month more ($538 vs. $323). So do you guys think $2K less down, 5K more miles per year, NAV and maintenance don't amount to $215 more a month? That's $7,740 more than him. Minus $2K down, - $2,100 NAV, - $650 maintenance - ($40/mo for 5K miles = $1440) = $7740 - $4192 = I'm paying roughly $3548 more than him over the 3 years. So to equal his deal I'd need to reduce the price by that much. Does that sound right?
The deal is $399, just tax/title/etc down ($2800), 10K miles, for the SE.
I'm adding 5K miles, NAV, Convenience, and Maintenance on top of that, with only $1K down. So reducing money down, adding features. Both of which should increase the $399 price...but to what extent??
What should/could I realistically offer them for this deal? $500/mo. $490/mo. $450? (seems like a huge stretch considering I'm putting less money down and upgrading features.)
PolishPete
05-16-2008, 08:35 AM
Just talked to my cousin who's in the industry, and he says that round-about you add $27 per $1,000 up in price on a lease, and $20 on a purchase...so figure.
$399 for base model SE @ 10K
$2,100 for NAV = $54
$2,100 for Con = $54
Reduce downpayment by $2K = $54
$650 for Maintenance = $20
5K more miles/yr = $45/mo
So I should be paying about $399 + $227 = $626 if they give no deal for all my options. They're giving it to me for $538 so $88 less per month, or an overall savings of $3,168. That's the deal we're at now.
Any more thoughts once you guys see it broken down? What should/could I realistically ask for without insulting the guy (remember, its a friend of the cousin and I don't want to be rude).

$323 +
2,100 for NAV = $54
Reduce downpayment by $2K = $54
$650 for Maintenance = $20
5K more miles/yr = $45/mo
You get $496. Looks like this is the deal I should shoot for? Plus free floor mats.
(These are round about figures...I'm not even sure leases even work this way where you can add stuff up without taking into account other things (money factors, risiduals, etc.))

Wow, sorry for all the lengthy posts...but after giving all the figures to my cuz, letting him do the math based off that + what his friend told him they had the car for, he figures $511 with all that still leaves the with $1K in profit...so they may bite on it.
As a final offer...what do you guys think of this. Probably going to go with this unless there's enough resistance here, but through all my research, for these terms...this seems like a good deal:
$511/mo for 36 months and $1,000 down (all fees included in this, Audi pays first month, so this is $1K down sign and drive)
Black on Black
2008 A4 2.0T Quattro Special Edition (gives rims/sat radio/heated seats/sun roof/s line exterior/sport interior/ipod (rather have the cd changer to be honest))
Add Navigation Package ($2100)
Add Convenience Package (2100)
Add Maintenance Package ($650)
Add miles to 15K per year from 10K
Ask for free winter mats.
Residual at about $19K at end of lease.

$511/mo for 36 months and $1,000 down (all fees included in this, Audi pays first month, so this is $1K down sign and drive)
does your $1,000 down include tax + license + fees all together?
I thought tunerb5's $3,000 down included all these, but your $1,000 down didn't seem right if it included them - isn't it $1,000 plus taxes and fees?
even when it's $0 down, you're still going to pay taxes and fees.
anyway, if you're paying $323 for a car, then you shouldn't be paying $215 more for the options....think about it, all the extra options you get cost around $4,000, which is not even close to 2/3 of the cost of the car ($323 for the car vs. $215 for the extra options), but you'll be paying that much in addition to the cost of the car?
btw, your car has Nav and 5k extra miles per year compared to tuner4's - and he has iPod option that you don't have.
IMO, even $500 a month doesn't seem right.

does your $1,000 down include tax + license + fees all together?

Yes, the $1k down is all taxes, title, license, etc. It was originally $2800, but they reduced it to $1K while working the deal. Also, Audi's Lease Deal is:
Down payment $0 (except the taxes of course/title/doc fees)
Security deposit $0
Acquisition fee - capitalized within lease contract ($575)
First month payment $0
So it really is $1K out of pocket and I leave with the car, paying whatever per month.
Mine also has ipod...but truly I wish it had the CD changer over the cheap ipod connector. Seems like Audi didn't really think that option through too well.

wow...taxes and fees come up to be $1,000?
thought it'd be more than that.
but still, $500+ a month doesn't seem to be such great deal.
btw, you do get in-dash 6 CD changer, why do you need an extra CD changer?

Ya, the $1,000 covers it all. I guess the dealer uses "tax credits" or something to show a profit. Not sure how it works, but yes. Its actually $0 down, plus all that stuff, minus the discount, so $1,000 out of pocket (better way of putting it).
You get a CD changer in dash?? I thought I read it's:
Nav DVD in the dash, Satellite Radio, and CD Changer in glove box or ipod in glove box. Might be different on Non-Nav?

not good at all.
I initially was going to lease the following:
2008 Quattro Tip w/ bluetooth and Sport Suspension
MSRP: $34,850
Discounted Price: $30,500
I ended up buying it at the same price, but $1,600 discount from MSRP is not great.
not every dealer would price match your deal, but you should be able to get more discount, whether leasing or purchasing.
hope this helps.

The MSRP on the one I'm looking at is $38,300, btw if that helps with anything.

The MSRP on the one I'm looking at is $38,300, btw if that helps with anything.
I bought 2 cars (for me and my gf) at the same time so most likely the dealer gave me a little more discount.
however, that doesn't mean they gave me like extra $2k off each car.
again, your car's about $4,000 more than my car's MSRP and, if I had chosen to go with lease, the lease payment was going to be barely over $300 (w/ 3k down or so) w/ 2.9% (or 2.7%...can't remember) int.
I just don't see how $200 can be added to that for the extra $4,000 in option.
$323 x 36 mo. = $11,628
considering taxes and fees included in the payment, the total payment toward the price of the car (negotiated price of the car - residual at the end of lease) during the lease of 36 months should be $10,000 or so.
now, $4,000 in additional options is 40% of that, right?
but you only get to use the options for the lease term, 36 months, and, based on the comparison between the residual value and the negotiated price of the car, you should be paying about < 40% of the $4,000 (the residual value of $20k-$21k vs. the negotiated price of $31k-$32k).
that'd be $4,000 x 0.4 = $1,600.
so by adding that plus additional finance/rental charges, the total lease payment would be:
$11,628 + $1,600 + $400 (<-- generous estimate of the finance/rental charges toward $1,600) = $13,628
since you put no down ($1,000 for taxes and fees), the difference between $3k and $1k down is $2,000 and it gets added to the calculation:
$13,628 + $2,000 + $500 (<-- generous estimate of the finance/rental charges toward $2,000) = $16,128
by dividing that by 36 months, the monthly payment should be:
$16,128 / 36 mo. = $448
throwing in a few more bucks and make it $455 (to make it an even more generous estimate), the total payment difference between your quoted amount of $511/mo vs. $455/mo is ($511 - $455) x 36 = $2,016.
I think you should be able to do $455/mo or lower.
car buying in our country is the way it is....not everyone gets the same price and discount.
as long as you don't get ripped off and you're happy with the purchase, it should be ok.
however, I hope you get a deal that's better than "average" since quite a few people are sharing their experiences here. [up]

seriously, seems to be one of the best deals I've seen recently.
if you don't mind sharing, what was the final price vs. msrp on the car and the interest rate/money factor?
I have to look for the price. but I know for sure it was below invoice. The money factor was something like .00002 ish which came out to be less then .5% interest

yea go to edmonds and see what the actual going rate is for the car i got about 1,900 off sticker on mine..also tell them your visting another audi dealership...who cares if its 70-90 miles it be worth it for another grand off the price...
heres how i did it...asked for a quote via email, got quote came in test drive asked whats the best you can do Im looking to buy within the week, then told them im going to the other audi dealership 75 miles away to see what they can do. When i got to the second dealership i just played dumb asked for a quote they quoted higher and i said i was quoted better at another place for the same car they ask what price i said give me your best offer if they are better im going with them. they were still higher so then i told them to beat the quote by 500 and give me first 3 scheduled maint. free and ill buy. Next is the financing option when they say x.x% say your bank will quote you .5% - 1% better tell them to match, they will...this is how they make money in the back-end if you get a car at invoice.
sorry for a long post but just want to let you know as much knowledge as possible
also its 17$ per 1,000 financed in a lease...least here in upstate ny

I was just quoted nearly the same thing on internet, 2008 SE quattro with same option and MSRP (34850) - dealer knocked 2K off sticker, zero down or out of pocket, 495/mo for 35 months, 10 K per year. 15K per year is another 20/mo. Gonna go in and try to do better.
