So I just installed my JH Motorsports Short Shifter.

Took 5 hours. ~ 4 were all my fault

Once I got it in and adjusted I realized that Reverse no longer needed a push-down to go into! the extra hour was because I thought R was 1st and I couldn't find 2nd!

I tried to PM Jason, but his box was full. Basically my new shifter allows me to throw it in R w/o warning! Will the tougher spring stop this? Is my intsall bad? Kinda freaking out here.....

Aside from, "Man-Up!" any real suggestions?

Oh! FYI, it DOES make shifting that much better. don't waste your cash on Neuspeed et all. I just need this issue fixed, and honestly its not a deal breaker. I just want it to be perfect for me...

And on that happy-feely note......

funny..I'm actually at a Euro Tuning shop with the same issue. I installed it myself but for the first day had no reverse, then finally got all the gears working but the push down reverse thing was eliminated. I got the tech working on it right now, (I actually jumped on the shop's computer to surf these forums for some answers and found this thread!) so I'll let you know what we come up with. Also...did you get the 40% reduction or the 20%?

Wait, so the JHM one doesn't retain the pushdown to reverse?? I thought it did? Or am I not understanding the posts.

You can get it. It's an option on the site when you purchase the SSK. You can purchase a spring to keep the pushdown. However....as long as your not downshifting to first on turns, which you never do anyway...I wouldn't really worry about it. Just, when your in first, make sure you can go straight down to second...If you can't...you're in reverse.

Actually it does have push-down! I emailed Jason @ JHM and he says that i have it installed too far to the right and the 6-speed needs to be perfectly aligned to work correctly.

Good luck Earhythmic!

i had the same problem... the problem is that the shifter is installed upside down... take it out and turn the linkage over and reinstall it and the lock out should be there when finished if installed properly and the correct way

so to make matters worse, I adjusted it a little and it was better. I pulled up to a parking spot, shifted and the whole linkage came loose! Luckily I didn't need any more gears. This would have been bad. I was just getting he from a road trip!

there isnt really anyway that you could shift it into reverse by accident. bmws dont have the push down and you dont see any freak accidents happening

So I had to order new linkage connection bolts from the dealer. $.46 a piece. I'm going back in to readjust. This time I'm buying the angle thingy. Also checked out the pics from Eddie Man's install of the 40% reduction to see where his is set as a guideline.
