Pics of RS4 ebrake handle installed and a simple DIY

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I got my RS4 ebrake handle cover today from Greg@DTH and decided to write a little DIY since the only one I could find didn't have pictures. This is a simple install but thought some people would find a DIY useful.

Here's an image of the ebrake handle cover not yet installed

All that's needed for the installation is a small flat head screwdriver

At the base of the original handle cover is a metal tab. To remove it, slide the screwdriver between the handle and the tab and pull it AWAY from the ebrake handle while pulling the cover up towards the ebrake button. In the image below, you can see the original cover halfway pulled out. Remember that you want to pull the metal tab away from the handle, not towards it. I made that mistake and spent 30min cursing as to why it was so difficult to remove.

Here's an image of the cover completely removed

To install the new RS4 cover, just slide onto the handle and push down until you hear the metal tab click into place. The fitment is a little tighter then the original so it may take a little force to get it to click into place.

And that's pretty much it for the install. Here's a picture of the new handle installed.

    Enjoy!

Nice write up! I did the same thing this summer and love it. Funny cause I did the same thing as you trying to get the original one off. Pushed the tab the wrong way and spent like 15-20 min cursing at it to come off haha.
Where did you get that shift boot whith the silver stitching? Would match my TT-RS MFSW perfectly.

Funny you say that, I got it so that it would match my TT-RS I have on order. Haha. It's from an Alcantara DTM shift knob I bought before. The plan is to pair the stitched boot with the RS4 shift knob that I should hopefully be receiving this week.

IMO the perforated RS4 handle is a perfect match for a USP which already has a perforated steering wheel and shift knob. However if your steering wheel and shift knob are smooth leather, why would you want to mistmatch with a perforated ebrake handle?

Hmmm..... my write up and DIY has been out there since 2005: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76332

Realized the photos were no longer showing (old AZ photo format). I've updated the DIY so the pics now show.

    Good work on doing yours!

Thanks! Yeah, yours was the one I mentioned at the top of my DIY when I said it didn't have any pictures. Glad you were able to restore them, no harm in having 2 DIY's.

I have a perforated RS4 shift knob that should be here any day. I've also got a fully perforated TTRS MFSW on the way as well. These should complete the perforated look and the white stitching on the shift boot will match the white stitching on the TTRS wheel.

I bought it from someone in the classifieds a few weeks ago. You can purchase it new from various places though...ie. ecstuning. It comes with an alcantara shift knob but you can remove the knob from the boot, which is what I had to do to get my standard a4 knob on there. I should be receiving the rs4 shift knob next week and when I do, I'll post a DIY of removing the shift knob from the boot as well as the installation.

when you say pull it AWAY from the handle do you mean towards the dash or rear seat? because to me the handle it the part you replaced, but it could also be the big plasic part.

(fyi, i just tryed to take mine off and failed lol)

Look at the third image. You need to pull that metal tab down, away from the actual ebrake itself...don't push up against it.
