I was wondering how many of you are installing Catch Cans on their B8? From what I understand the new engine had a fix for the carbon build up but does anyone really know if it works or should I install one for safe measure? Will it void warranty?

Some one had indicated to me that Audi updated the newer 2.0T and 3.0T whcih has a small port injector so the intake valves gets a bit of fuel coated on them. Toyota/Lexus uses the same approach for their DI engines.

    Can you have a link?
I heard about toyota having that, but didn't know audi was implementing that.

Supposedly the system detailed in the pic here is supposed to address this and you won't need any catch can system - no evidence to prove if it works yet though.

That was me, but I merely said there was no mention of any maintenance for it, but that there also wasn't any mention of teh DSG either, which seems suspect.

No, I was in for a brake issue they said should "clear up" but if not come back @2K miles - getting close to that now and I have still have a 1/2 inch strip around the center area of the rotor surface which is not getting touched by the pads, so it leaves a rust ring around just the passenger rear rotor.

I'll take it in soon and badger them.

Since this was bumped I'll reply to it.

No service interval needed for NA DSG's and no word about maintenance on the oil recovery system. Time will indeed tell when someone with 5 figure mileage comes in and gets the intakes pulled and we see what is what with carbon.

Want to take any bets? Looking at my exhaust pipes I am willing to bet we will also have the carbon buildup problem. Compared to my B5 it is much dirtier. Wonder how the cats will hold up also?

Thats funny. how does the DSG not need service? I can see how they can ignore the catch can.. but not the tranny..

I agree, though the interval could be longer now, as they have seperated the oil inside in 2 loops - it is still a hydrolic type of oil which will degrade over time and use. Ironically in EU and hot climates there is a 40K mile service interval onthe same cars.

^I'm definitely not getting a DSG vehicle next until they prove them selves reliable.

I work for VW and we service our DSG's every 20k and replace the filter cartridge. This is the factory interval

Wow bumping a year plus old thread? This was addressed in the oversight if not listing the DSG as needing a 35K interval for changing the fluids and filters. old old news.
