Cool It's finally tinting time. Now with pics!

The car's actually at the shop right now getting done. After seeing Blake's car I decided on 50% for the front four and 37% for the rear. The last thing I want is for the fiance to get pulled over!

Had it washed before taking it in, so I'll snap some pics this evening. Perfect timing too as it's in the 80's this week. Blech!

    Stay tuned.

It's in the South Bay and I've taken a number of my previous cars there. It's $250 for all five (no windshield, of course) on a sedan, with lifetime warranty. It's a little hole-in-the-wall shop, with extremely impossible parking (maybe that's how they came up with the name), but they do good work.

Say I would like to get a front difuser, however All I have seen are complete front bumpers from Reiger etc. Has anyone seen or shopped around for one.

    Tint is at about 30%

Pardon my ignorance, but It is the rear and the front windows that can't go beyond a 35% ish tint legally in CA correct?

And what did you mean by you "had it washed", you mean you carefully hand washed it yourself right?

by rear, you mean rear window? and front four, you mean front and back door windows?

50% is good for your (our) age group. Any darker and it becomes a little awk looking. I'm going to get the avant rear section about 35 and get the door windows 50...basically the Avant version of what you got.

Well, I have never purchased a car without being pretinted actually, but for some reason the front driver and passenger windows were never tinted, just the driver rear and passenger rear, and the rear window / tailgate. I always thought this was by law. But I hear that has gotten a bit more relaxed lately.

So I am wondering if in CA you can now have up to 35% tint on everything but the windshield, or if the front driver and passenger windows by law can NOT be tinted.

But I am sold on the 35% tint part, but need to make sure where it can legally be applied. ( I am already running no front plate on the avant which the local swine don't like too much so i am trying to avoid another reason for them to f@$& with me. I have no front plate on the R32, and I get pulled over about once a year for it, but I have that routine down now for how to get out of that, so it only costs me $10 and about 30 minutes of my time. hahaha )

As far as I'm aware, the laws for CA state that you cannot have any tint on the front three windows (windshield, driver's, and passanger's). The back ones you can do as dark as you want.

And yes, in a moment of weakness I had someone else wash the A4.

    That is correct.

Also on a white car with black interior I think 50% is more than enough. I'm pretty sure I had 37% all around on my Moro Blue B7 and the windows looked about as dark as that on the current B8 with 50%.

    I'll be snapping pics shortly...

Interesting, I was told we can't have any aftermarket tint on the front windows. I'll have to ask the cop in the family. Not that it'll help my case with 50%...

Anyway, here are a few quick pics.

These were taken about 30 minutes before sunset. The first three are in the shade. The last one is in direct sunlight.

I think it looks nice 'n' classy. Perfect for us "older" folk. The next real photoshoot won't be until after the suspension and wheels are installed.

    Car looks great!!!

And just a note about the tint, I am almost 100% sure that you CANNOT have any aftermarket film on the front three windows (windshield, front driver or passenger) unless you have a perscription.

Is it just me, or do the front side windows look lighter than the rear sides? I thought those are both 50%, right? Regardless - nice job! Ceramic or a metalic/dye hybrid?

it's not just you...I thought the same thing, but it could be because the windshield has no tint, thus allowing more light into the front of the cabin, while the rear window is tinted 37% allowing very little light into the rear of the cabin

Anth nicely done! You are correct on the no tint on the front windows whatsoever. I got pulled over and had to have mine removed because they refer to it as obstruction of your view. Go figure.

You actually removed it? I've gotten 2 fix-its and "removed" the tint without actually removing it, if you know what I mean.

Anthony, nicely done. This is exactly what I was thinking of doing as well in previously long winded posts! And I agree that the front 2 windows and windshield can not be tinted by law. I have been fixated on every single car I have passed lately with factory tint and this is the case with all of them. Clearly for a reason!

    Looks really good Anthony.

I've got 13%. I wanted 15% but had to go a tad darker because they didn't carry 15%.

I got it done over there at Mr. Tint off Kiely across from the Toyota dealership on Stevens Creek.

Anthony, can you take a close-up picture of where the 3rd brake light goes? The 3rd brake light in the B8 is on the top, correct? Is that area tinted as well? I'm just curious.

Off is fine. So the 3rd brake light is easy to remove? Is there any black border or dots on the glass around the 3rd brake light? Thanks.

Anyone have any cop stories about getting pulled over with the super dark stuff in Cali? I'm afraid of tint with the stupid 70% California law, but then I see people with 15% and limo tint, haha.

No tint stories, but I think what gets you popped the fastest is if you have the front driver and passenger windows tinted. The rest of the car can be almost blacked out and you should be fine.

Anthony, do you mind taking a picture of the rear window from above. I would like to see how the rear window led housing contrasts with the 50% tint.

    Thanks.

    ERR. I meant 37% tint.

Yeah will do. Someone else asked to see that awhile back as well. I'll try to snap some pics and post tomorrow.

Thanks - I look forward to seeing that as well. I think it would be pretty hard to tint around the brake light and make it look well integrated. Tinting the entire window seems like the 'right' way to do it as long as the light still looks bright enough through the tint.

    (Woohoo! Three rings!)

Damn here they arnt so bad when it comes to enforcing tints except if is on those matchbox need for speed cars, higher end cars don't get bugged much. I have 15% all around and 50% on the whole windshield. Yall should move here....lol
