    My widebody thread

    UPDATED 11/9
    UPDATE 11/19- rear doors shaved

    Alright ladies,
At the request of others, I will finally start my widebody thread. I started about the same time as Rich, but have not been working nearly as fast. At the time I didn't think that we really needed 2 DIY widebody threads, but people kept asking me for updates.

My plan is a little different from Rich's, but hopefully it will turn out as nice. I first picked up a set of used fenders from a 97 A4 that was totalled. First day, I mounted them, and began shaving the Audi football, side indicator, and made the cuts for the extension.

This was progress after day one of work.

This pic shows about how much extension I want before I start welding. I will use a hammer & dolly method for the top part of the fender, then weld in about 1 inch of sheet metal on the underside of the fender. My flares will not be as large as Rich's.

So far I think it is looking pretty good. I still need to get a welder from someone who is willing to lend me one, so until then there will not be very much progress. Other plans include shaving the mid door moldings, filling the holes, shaving the door handles, and a few other little things (25mm spacers, roof spoiler, ect) I also have another little suprise that involves 2 10lb bottles. For color, I plan to do the Porsche deep teal metallic. I might 2 tone my car with the charcoal roof & pillars similar to what I have right now. The main reason I am doing this is for something to do this fall. I will keep posted as it progress comes. Thanks for reading!

Looks good so far Rob. The competition is on lol.

What i think is really is funny is that I talked to a couple people about doing this at waterfest but you weren't one of them I don't think. You know the old saying though, great minds think alike.

If only I got the garage heater hooked up. I'd be burning holes in parts with the rest of you. I just want to run a 285 all around like a Skyline. You got tire plans or just going to spacer them out for now?

    Re: My widebody thread

Alright here is a update for you all. I continued the hammer and dolly method to complete the first fender. I got a Arc stick welder but it just was not working quite right so now I am back in the hunt for a wire feed or gas welder. I will post pics once the first fender has the full extensions and is ready for the mud. I am sure that there will be some real progress before the weekend.

    Re: My widebody thread

    FINALLY AN UPDATE!

Last night I spent about 3 hours with a friend who knows how to weld much better than me. We cranked a propane heater up and continued working. The extensions are in, and I just started to grind down the welds.

Work has been slow due to school, motivation, and a heavy midterm week. This weekend I hope to begin work on the other front, and prep it for another welding session. My 25MM spacers also came for the rears, so I will test fit those and begin to pull the fenders over the hefty poke in the rear. Its nice to see progress, and I hope this all works out as planned. Thanks for following!

Also, just for fun, here is a pic of the whip just waiting to get that drivers fender fitted.

Yea I know. I plan to just pull them for a really scretched look with the spacers (25mm). Similar to what Capita did on Vortex.
