Hey, xileh- I know that you have confirmed that you do NOT need to plug the 3.5mm Aux cable into the XCarLink unit in order to get sound and that you only have to enable Aux via the VCDS. However, we seem to have someone in the XCarLink thread claiming that this solution only works if he keeps the Aux 3.5mm cable plugged into the AMI. Can you confirm whether or not you have anything plugged into the AMI with your current setup???

I have removed my AUX cable completely. It is in a drawer in the garage, and the sound still works ;) But I don't have AMI i think. Maybe that's the problem?

i've never seen an a4 with the original wheels you had on, are those a5 wheels? i was looking for a set of those, i think hartmann makes reps?

Mounted the PS2 in the glove box today. Still can't finish the install, due to that I'm waiting for the 12V adapter i ordered for the PS2.

The absolutely first wheels that this car came with?
They are original Sline wheels in Norway. 18"

Hmm.....you already have the Aux port in the arm rest area? When you say Aux cable, you mean the male to male headphone 3.5mm cable and not the actual AMI 3.5mm cable...right?

My car was delivered without any option for AUX/Ipod. Just SD card.
I first retrofitted this:

You have seen on the right place to? On the screen you click on the upper right corner where souce stands? (On the menu on the radio i mean)

Got my adapter yesterday, but not much time to mount. Everything is ready now. Just need to mount the glove box again.
Tok 12V from the fuse box that delivers 12V when ignition is on. Best and easiest place I think.



The loose wires is going to be connected to the PS2.

Isn't that only with AMI?
It is not standard in Norway.

The ones in the black fuse box got 12V on ignition.
The ones in the brown fuse box got 12V all the time.

The ones I have put a circle around is ready to use. There is power on one side of the fuse. You only have to put in a cable shoe on the other side. If you understand me ;)

North American B8s that came without AMI were fitted with an AUX IN jack in the arm rest. That would require a normal male-to-male 3.5mm cable, unlike the AMI unit which requires a male-to-Audi-AMI proprietary connection.

What sucks is that if you have AMI, you were (most likely) given an iPod cable, not an AUX IN cable. So now those of us who ordered the XCarLink are desperately trying to figure out if we need to spend $50+ on that AMI AUX IN cable or if there is a solution similar to yours. Problem is that we can't figure out exactly how your setup differs from ours. I can only assume it's a software issue addressable via VDSC.

I think my interface is broken :( Finished my install yesterday, but when I tested it didn't work.
Removed it and checked the cables and everything. But nothing was wrong. Going to send mail to xcarlink to hear what to do. :(

Hi,

you finally purchased the Xcarlink. Got is two days ago, but what I have is accoring to Xileh's photos the old box and the new cables (the new cables without this small " powerbox"). Anyhow, installed it today, but I do only get black screen channels, neither Iphone nor DVDplayer appear. What could have gone wrong? The box is power on (blue light) and clicks when I change AV channels... but only Audi Entertainmentsystem is visible. I can also not use the Mode Button on my steering wheel to change channels?
I connected all cables I had? anyone has the instruction PDF for the "new/Old" version? was not in my box and the one on their website is broken...

Got mail from Xcarlink and they are saying the will send me a new interface now :) I did return the old interface to them for repair.

Yes, it is possible. But I think that where a little to much. Might try to take a picture some day to show how it looks.

I have put the car for sale now. But will try to sell for just about a month. If no one is interrested, I will keep the car for a while, and then some mods will come during the winter. New rims and stuff ;)
