Euro RS4 Steering wheel install HELP

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So im putting the wheel on my 04 S4 and i finished the splicing and i know where everything has to go. I remove the wires with pins from the new airbag connectore and an unable to fit them into the stock B6 connector. Am i supposed to cut the ends off and solder them onto the stock ones? Any help would be great.

    Thanks

Did you get a new SC ring? Because if i'm not mistaken the b6 a4's had a single stage airbag so they had a different SC ring as the B7 a4's which are dual stages.. Maybe thats your problem? Then again i don't have a b6 so i'm not 100% sure

no splicing. do it right. you need a b7 clockspring. b7 airbag harness and a b7 connector for the clockspring

Honestly you have a couple choices, do it wrong and go with no lights on the wheel and an airbag light, or put the old wheel on and rewire like it used to be until you get a new harness. Without the new harness it ain't gonna work like it's supposed to.

So the splicing method results in an airbag light?

Splice them together and you can get it to work.

You can not, however, fit the new pins into the old connector as you don't have the pin tool and the pins themselves are proprietary. I 'm having a hard time remembering.

If you really want to do it, listen to Drew and do it right.

Look at the b7 wheel into a b6 thread, has all the parts you need, same conversion.

i also ordered the bluetooth module, antenna and microphone at the same time so all would work through the steering wheel controls. hopes this helps. harris

Plenty of people splice the Dual Stage RS4 airbags onto B5 S4s (singles stage) and they work without setting off airbag codes.

Same with the B6. Just because one doesn't use the B7 S/C ring and harness doesn't mean they'll get an airbag light

except you don't use a t27 torx to remove the steering column screws. its actually a t8 (security) screwdriver you need, pretty tough to find but sears has them

    b7 connector - 4E0-972-133
    b7 airbag harness - 4F0 971 589 A

you don't need the b7 control module as the euro rs4 wheel buttons don't do anything anyway.

PM Manguyen, he can get you sorted on the clockspring. the rest of the parts i got from my local dealer.

oh and don't turn your ignition on without the bag hooked up because that will just store a code and the airbag light will be on even though you connected the airbag later.

So thanks everyone for all the input. i went ahead and finished up the install with the splicing method and everything went fine. No air bag light so that good. Im going to go ahead and order the 3 parts to do it the proper way but at least its on a looks good for now.

Thanks again to everyone who replied.

No, the buttons are for options that your S4 does not have.

I read in another thread that you can code them to control the multifunction display, but not volume (without doing some more splicing, anyway). Search and you can find the thread.

you'd probably need the b7 control module for that, correct?

    not worth it IMO
