I did this writeup because I found the information on this topic a little sparse. I posted this on AW because I like the HTML formatting there. I regularly check both boards so I'll try to answer any questions you all have!

I responded to your PM. I, like many others, picked up a set through the classifieds from our resident lighting expert, Jens (lowestA4).

Thanks gpxluke, this sounds like a good tip -- I was going to go this route but couldn't figure out how to access the inside without removing the drivers side wiper to take that cover off. You have any pictures, or could you describe how you did this?

If I did it again I think I could to it in a few hours. I took two afternoons, but most of that time I spent cussing at the damn bumper. I definitely don't recommend doing this the way I did, which was without completely removing the bumper.

Did I mention you should take the bumper off if you're going to do this? No? Take the bumper ALL THE WAY off unless you're a true masochist.

Re: HOWTO + PICS: Bi-Xenon ECode headlight installation, new Kufatec harness

Ok, i've been looking at getting actual HID projectors for my B7 A4, and i'm wondering, are the pins that you're running to the inside of the car for the Bi-Xenon motor? What are ECode headlights? How are they different from normal Audi hid headlights, or are they one in the same? I'm a tad confused, and was hoping the headlights would be somewhat plug-and-play, but life can only be so simple. *sigh* Thank you.

Re: HOWTO + PICS: Bi-Xenon ECode headlight installation, new Kufatec harness

    Perfectly valid questions, gentlemen.

First of all, yes, the pins you run inside are for the bi-xenon motors. These wires will not be activated as the "high beams" in your car until you recode via VAG-COM.

Next, Ecode == Eurocode, and this means that the bi-xenon lights have OEM clear corner lenses instead of ambers that must be removed (US bi-xenons). I've been told that older ECode bi-xenons (for one example, on the RS4) in fact had amber corners like US bi-xenons. Physically and electrically, the ECode and US bi-xenons are exactly the same, and the installation process is the same.

Some have said the beam pattern is a little different between US and ECode bi-xenons, but I can't verify this. The upgrade is expensive if you already have US bi-xenons and can just hammer out the amber from your existing lights. If, like me, you had halogens before, it makes sense economically to pay a little bit more to get the bi-xenon upgrade AND the ECode clear corners at the same time.

    HTH,

    Kurt

Kurt, and other HID ECODE owners...

I ran ECodes on my 2003 Jetta. they were great with the exception of the reflectors were set up as if it was a Right hand Drive car. Do the HID's in these level off for Left Hand US driving? Do the lights still turn when you turn a corner?

    Thanks!

The cutoff for the lights looks something like this:

    __//---

The lights do not turn because I did not install all the necessary sensors, etc. It is possible to retrofit this stuff, however.
