Here are some pics of it installed on my DTM
and a close up of the grill
and some pics in the snow here in Swiss, unfortunatly its already late so the light is not great, and the car is dirty, but still enjoy..
Non S-Line RS4 Grill DIY Guide
Parts needed:
1x RS4 grill: 8E0 853 651 L 3FZ (Brushed Alu trim)
1x Non S-Line grill : 8E0 853 651 J 1QP (Chrome trim)
1x RS4 adapter: 8E0 807 083 A
1x RS4 Euro Plate Holder: 8E0 807 285 AT 3FZ
Note this is with a euro front plate, dimensions 520x110mm
Using your old grill is possible but this does take some time + I didn’t want to screw up the parts already on my car.
Tools needed:
Body Filler/ Modeling putty
Duplicolor mat black plastic spray can
Epoxy glue, super glue
Wire cutters, clamps, flathead screw drivers, sandpaper, Dremel
Right now what the problem is, is that the RS4 grill continues on down too far + at the bottom is narrower than the NSL (non s-line) because of its length. So what needs to be done is that the bottom bit of the NSL needs to be attached on the RS4 at the right height.

How to get on with this is to first remove the trim. The side and bottom clips can be individually unlatched using a screw driver. All of the top clips however are a pain, these will only come out if all are removed at once. I used several old cutlery knives to stick between the clip and the trim and once all are in with 1 pull the trim is off. You do not need to remove the Audi rings.
Now the incision needs to be made underneath the plate holder, and for the NSL between the bottom 2 side screw holders, where the bumper attaches. Now the cut ideally needs to be that same distance from this top screw holder for both grills. This will mean they are “flush” when the 2 mate. I say flush because the NSL grill rim is thinner than the RS4, so filler will be needed here.
The NSL bottom piece is removed, only the rim is needed as this is what is needed for the trim and bumper to attach to. The vert. + horizontal latches can be removed. This leaves several holes and unevenness. This is the most work, getting the bottom bit of the NSL to look flush again. Furthermore the NSL grill is not the same color as the RS4, I used Duplicolor’s mat black plastic spray paint and it matched perfectly.

Cutting the RS4 grill your priority is to have the honeycomb undamaged, now the best way to do this is to cut the rim of the grill at the honeycomb endings. This gives some buffer material to get a good connection with the NSL piece, and sanding is easier to do than adding more stuff, I know now from experience.

Now for the fit you need to have 3.5 layers of the honeycomb left over, for perfect fit a little more. I did this so that it would look good, and was close enough to what is needed, but if you look at the installed pics at the top of this post, you can see that there is a slightly larger than normal gap, but Im satisfied with that. This is cause the bottom is slightly rounded and not straight, which i didnt assume but tried to get when cutting and glueing.
Make sure everything is sanded nice and smooth because with the mat black paint on unevenness is easily spotted. Take time to make sure every piece is looking good before you put it all together because it wont look nice otherwise and takes more time to correct later, I imagine.
Now using epoxy I glued the NSL piece top the rim of the RS4 grill, and used super glue to glue the honeycomb to the NSL piece. Now some more filler is needed to get a good flow from the RS4 grill over to the NSL bottom piece, and to get the honeycomb/NSL piece connection looking good. Then spray to get everything the same color, attach the trim and install.

Now this was how I did it. It is rather a complex thing to do. Measure up the distances for the screw holding points on the grills so that this matches up later. When test fitting the bottom piece, it is important that you use the trim as guide, cause if this doesn’t fit your grill wont work! I test fitted the NSL piece without the trim and ended up cutting more away then needed, which cost me a lot of time to put right. Also the NSL has 1 central mounted clip that attaches to the cars frame, the RS4 has 2, I found this out when I was installing the grill, I cut them off and the grill holds fine.
Its not an easy mod to do, it costs a lot of time. What is written here is a guide not a must do. Use whatever ways you think best to achieve the goal of a NSL RS4 grill. This just shows that it can be done!
And no I will not be making or selling any!
