    my custom velocity stack intake

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Figured i would share with everyone since i've seen a couple of these threads lately

i picked up a used usp intake and while it seems like a very nice intake i wanted a velocity stack and more 4" piping

i picked up a vibrant performance 4" velocity stack that has a 7" opening. this is connected to a 4" elbow and then a 4" to 3.5" reducer to a 3.5" to 3" elbow. The whole goal of making this intake was to have as smooth as transitions as possible from the 3" tb to the 4" piping. Most intakes on the market step up in size very quickly and IMO it looks like they cheaped out on the transitions.

As of right now I do not have a heat shield made, i will do testing to see if its necessary and will most likely fabricate something (if needed)

i will be putting this on the dyno against the usp as well as the stock airbox and if i can make time i will also try to test these out at the track to see if any real performance gains are possible

the velocity stack which is very easy to run by itself if I don't want to run a filter at the track

the vibrant filter compared to the usp filter (yes it fits inside the filter!!)

This looks interesting! Have you driven the car yet with this intake?

Vibrant isn't the cheapest so I have around $200 in parts

Not to be negative, but the beginning of the intake isn't the main restriction of our intakes. But it will be interesting to see results.

Not sure what you mean by beginning, but what is the main restriction?

The TB and supercharger inlet are the main obstructions. I'm assuming creating a bigger filter inlet won't help with the main restriction present.

that makes sense, i guess we will see if there is a gain over the stock parts or not

i prefer to actually test instead of assuming things

That's very slick. I'm sure it made a huge difference.

Thanks Steve, no I had a friend weld it up. I cut all the pipes and mocked it up, lined up the pipes and he welded them for me

Great idea, and we'll executed. I wonder if your buddy could extend the TB side another 2-3 inches to get far enough away from the engine to install a heat shield. That heat has to be hurting your great concept's performance. I have been thinking about a heat shield with high temp weather stripping or foam rubber across the top of a heat shield such that it seals against the hood. If you ran it from the firewall to the radiator frame, you could really isolate the air filter. May also want to try heat tape on your heat shield...just throwing out my crazy ideas in case someone wants to find my blunders before I do ;)
