How does this differ from the APR Carbonio system?

It differs in a couple ways..

    • First, our intake includes the Carbon Fiber back pipe, which eliminates the baffles and mufflers in the OEM piece meant to silence the supercharger.

    • Second, the filter we use, is our in house designed 3" conical hi-flow reusable unit that features a built in bell mouth inlet which provides the smoothest entry into the throttle body as possible.

    • Third, our intake replaces the entire lower intake box, with an Aluminum powder coated piece which has a twin layer heat shield and utilizes the factory rubber mounting grommets

Haha...looks like APR needed more than an authentic Carbonio sticker to protect it's design. Oh well, more products for consumers to choose. Now it boils down to metrics and quality.

It's actually quite a bit different than the APR (at first look it looks similar). The ECS gets rid of the entire stock airbox, and uses a combination of an aluminum heat shield and CF top plate in conjunction with a larger filter. APR reuses the bottom half of the stock airbox, so the filter is similar in size to stock. ECS also has a full provision for the breather assembly, and it looks like better quality materials. The CF intake tube on the APR system is paper thin.

The picture above doesn't do the system justice. Look at the pics on the ECS site or the install instructions to get the full picture. Having installed the APR and CTS systems on my car, I can assure you this is the most "engineered" system available; although I can't comment on performance without testing it firsthand.

Edit: I can add that from a performance standpoint, an intake with an open filter that gets rid of the stock airbox, and uses a heatshield, typically performs the best (both in terms of logging and 1/4 mile times). This ticks those boxes, and adds what appears to be a larger filter and CF top cover.

Thanks for the feed back! We really did spend countless hours designing this so it hits all aspects when it comes to fit, finish, cost, and notable gains with supporting mods.

Well, damn.... I went ahead and ordered one to test it out. This will be the 4th intake I have tested, so I'll report back with how it stacks up. I won't be going to the track until late May, so probably won't have a full report outside of quality, sound, and logging results until then. In theory, this meets all the criteria I am looking for, but we'll see what the results say....

I have to say I was impressed with the price. I thought it was going to cost way more. Great looking intake.

Any possibility of an introductory price?

According to their site, it looks like it was on a stage 2 car.

Highest gains were recorded on a Stage 2 vehicle. I'm pretty sure we have documentation of what a Stage 1 vehicle will do with this intake, I'm just waiting for R&D to get back to me with the info.

    Thanks for all the words!

I'll post Stage 1 data as soon as I have it.

    *Edit*

    Stock gains with ECS intake

Stage 1 Tune gains with ECS intake

My guess is slightly less just based on the fact it has a cover over the top. The bottom is still open, so it will be louder than anything using the stock airbox. On a scale of 1-10.... Stock is a 1, APR/AWE is a 3, and Roc-Euro/CTS/USP is a 9. My guess is this will fall in the 6-7 range, but I'll verify once I get it installed.

Looks awesome. The rubber hose still looks to be in a a bit of contact with the intake tube (similar to the issue I have with my Roc Euro, regardless of maneuvering done under hood.) Can you speak to this and whether it will create a heat wear problem over time? Thanks!

Interested to see how the carbon fiber holds up to the massive amounts of heat in the engine bay over time. My carbonio/APR piece has yellowed a lot over the last couple of years.

We looked into replacing this hose with a new unit, however to simplify the install and to make it more user friendly we opted to retain the factory fuel hose. As some customers are hesitant to touch fuel related components and it increases the difficulty of install, we opted to design the intake to work around this factory component. We have been running this intake for several months on several vehicles at this point as part of the R&D process and have not had any issues with the hose damaging the intake tube.

    Appreciate all the feed back!

Any chance you will offer a fiberglass painted version for those that are more go and less show? Looks amazing in CF but rather spend that money on something I will look at more often.

One of our goals with every project of this nature is heat management, as can be seen by the twin heat shields on this system. We spent a large amount of time to ensure that all components are kept below a threshold temperature which we have established to prevent damage to composite and hard components as a result of thermal exposure. This not only prevents the carbon from yellowing, but ultimately prevents the parts from failing. Comparing an intake that we have had installed for several months during R&D stages to a brand new unit, we have not seen any yellowing of the resin or damage to the carbon as a result of exposure to elevated temperatures.

Any carbon will turn colors if exposed to high temperatures or UV for prolong periods of time, however we specifically ensured that if a composite component is going to be near those temperatures that precautions are taken to avoid/lower direct heat exposure for product reliability reasons.

Not Likely, but if there seems to be a high demand for a different material it's something we could consider.

The fact that our intake has a lid helps contain the sound, which produces a tolerable supercharger whine, giving hint to the added performance without being intrusive.

I can't speak to have the ECS intake will hold up obviously, but in general, I agree about the yellowing or discoloration factors. It's inevitable with carbon fiber when exposed to high heat for extended periods of time. There is only type of resin/CF that prevents this, and the patent is owned by Chevrolet of all people. My understanding is that to this point, no one else has licensed it, uses it, or has anything similar.

It's inevitable with carbon fiber when exposed to high heat for extended periods of time. There is only type of resin/CF that prevents this, and the patent is owned by Chevrolet of all people. My understanding is that to this point, no one else has licensed it, uses it, or has anything similar.
It's not Chevrolet its plasen composites that has the process and materials; Chevy as well as dodge and ford just happen to contract out to them.

Anyways just placed an order for some additional coverage via DEI reflective material (a la - reflect-a-gold). Will cover areas where radiant heat is typically an issue (side wall of heat shield). Stuffed worked great on the roc-euro.

@ECS how fast are you getting these shipped out if order was placed this morning? To Chicago so not that far of an adventure from Ohio.

+1 on the Reflet-A-Gold! That stuff is amazing!

We have plenty in stock so orders placed this morning should go out by days end. Chicago area is usually next day via FedEX once it ships according to our transit maps. Two days for UPS.

Cool. Good info. I knew it was something like that. Either way, very limited who has it (or better who can afford it).
