    homelink for the 2015 s3's

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
just saw the order guide for for the 2016 s3. its added at the port and not at the manufacturer in Germany. I am now curious if its possible to just buy the homelink and add it on a 2015 s3?

    Good question.

Unless they can't do this at a dealership...I don't know why not. I would assume it's just an insert into the visor or overhead lighting console?

I saw it at the dealership and my friend that works there told me that its a port installed option which means it should be able to be added. I'm waiting to hear more since I would be interested in adding it.

I heard that the placement is between the visor and overhead lighting console. There was some feedback that it clearly looks like an afterthought; however, I haven't been able find a picture to judge for myself. Personally, I was hoping they would incorporate it into filling the blank buttons on the dash, but I guess we just have to be thankful it's even available as an option now.
If anyone stumbles across a picture, please post it as well! Thanks!

Man, that's really disappointing if it's placed in an awkward spot. The interior as a whole has a very efficient feel to it...I would love a place for it in the available dash spots, as you mentioned!

if thats an A3, im wondering if its the same as the S3?

it's definitely an afterthought. i guess they are adding it because so many are complaining about not having it.

Honestly, it's better than what I had anticipated with all debate surrounding it. It's interesting placement for sure, though...

I believe so. My friend at the dealership said its a port installed option which means it didn't leave the factory that way. I'll be at the dealership on Tuesday for my free 5k service so I'm going to see if I can get a definitive answer about whether or not they will be able to add it.

So, I talked to my service advisor today and here is the update. It is definitely a port installed option, but currently the don't (at least my dealership doesn't) have the instructions from Audi about adding it. He's been getting some calls about it so it's likely going to be an option to get it installed later, just not yet. I'll just keep checking.

I had to swallow hard in how absurd it was the S3 did not have a factory Homelink - so basic these days... Seems to be a workable solution - staying tuned.

This forced my to get my smartphone to open my garage doors. Best thing ever! My garage doors are open by the time I see my house not to mention the other added benefits from opening/closing remotely.

I know there are people out there with community gates and that probably does not help but for those that are just trying to open your own garage door, I highly recommend looking into a smart phone option.

I could not do the Homelink even if I wanted to because I guess it is not an option for those with the adaptive cruise/lane keeping tech package.

interesting. what app are you using? also wouldn't you need some sort of hardware to make it work?

how did you find out that the adaptive cruise tech package would opt you out of the homelink?
so far I couldn't even find a part number.

I purchased new craftsman garage door openers. They were $189 each, less than the Homelink option. There are third party modules you can add to existing garage door openers but a brand new opener with it integrated for $189 seemed very reasonable to me.

I have read several post here or on other forms that confirm that Audi says Homelink is not an option with the tech package. In fact, the 2016 order guide has Homelink as an option but says you can't select it if you have the tech package.

I just got a new LiftMaster garage door opener. The internet gateway is about $42 on eBay (hooks via ethernet to your router). Works with the free myQ app for iPhone and Android. Pretty nice since it stays logged in so less fumbling. Also lets you check door status and set up alerts.

I was told it conflicts with the active lane assist in this car. I've got a 2016 on order and it's not available on the prestige pack for that reason. Oh well, you can buy a new garage door opener w/ iphone connectivity for less than the homelink option.

I guess this item was an after thought in the end.

how does something that opens a garage conflict with something that helps the car drive?!

just got some good news about the homelink for the S3 and pretty much any other model out there.

I got word there is a universal homelink model available now. its universal because it wont interfere with the tech package and is meant to work like a standalone. it will look like the same units that are in the preinstalled cars at the port. these are oem audi and are sold by audi. its still installed in the same location as the current ones and will have a harness to plug into the power area up top. it will be a plug and play deal.

ill get more info about it by next week.
so far price is about $300 or so. ill verify this as well.

Ironic......Tech package excludes something that you would expect to find actually included in a tech package. LOL

You are correct. With adapt cruise/lane assist it is not available. Dealer confirmed with Audi tech. Darn...

We have it in our 2016 S3. IMHO it's very nice, was super easy to program and works great. The three positions illuminate red at night.

ok - so do we have a part #?
When Audi parts / local dealer - the kid is sharp who works there - ran my VIN#, the 'only part # available for the U.S.' / no distinction to whether it was / was not universal - they said it would 'not fit' because of the tech package... The parts guy even said he confirmed with Audi tech.
This could be b.s. in that it could work - but Audi say's it won't.
Hesitant to lay out $300. and have it not work.

I will look to see it I can spot a S3 with the tech package and homelink - grab the VIN# and go back to the parts guy. Just saying - I want to replace what came with my car...

Unless Alloy07 would be willing to share the last 8 numbers of his Vin...
Alloy07 - just to confirm you have the 'lane assist' option? this feature seemed to be called out as to why the homeland would not work by Audi.
