    Suspension question B12 kit

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm about to install the Bilstein B12, with spec control arms this weekend. I have 2 questions. How long should I wait until I get an allingment? And should I cut down the rear bump stops (Bilstein says no, but I've heard some people say yes)

Shops have told me to let springs settle for handful of days (4-5) before aligning.

    Not sure about bump stops.

Do not cut bump stops, you don't really need to get an alignment, you aren't touching anything that would mess it up. But if you want to, i would wait until you put 500 miles on the kit. Enjoy it, i have the B12 Sportline kit and love it.

When you lower the car, you change the camber of the wheels. This can result in premature tire wear. I'm just adressing it so I don't have to deal with it later. Did you have a non sport suspension before? Bilstein guy suggested getting sport suspension bump stops. Not sure if it's worth it.

The camber on the front is non adjustable, it is a function of the control arm length which is fixed. Only the rear has camber adjustments a tech can make (which is a bolt with a non-concentric washer welded to the head). Yes my car came with sport suspension, the kit included new front bump stops which where the same length that came on the car, i didn't touch the rears.

I'm replacing the front arms with adjustable ones just to play it safe. Yeah I know the fronts have internal bumps. I'm just wondering how different the rears are sport to non sport. I would assume they are shorter. It's weird because Bilstein is the only company that frowns on cutting them. Even Stassis recommends cutting them with their install guide. I guess I'll leave them as they are, and see how they ride.

You do not need adjustable control arms for this kit. I have the sportline kit (-1.7" front) and the negative camber was within Audi's alignment specs, save the $500.

I paid $300 for the set. I'll install it in case I want to slam it.

The ~1.2in drop barelyyyy stays within the limits of the OEM camber specs. It's green on the alignment sheet, so that's all I cared about.

Control arms are nice to have (more adjustability), though not technically necessary with this drop.

Honestly, after reading some horror stories from guys with H&R oe, and pro kits I figured it was better to be safe than sorry. It's a piece of mind for me.

If I had the choice, and budget wasn't an issue, I'd go for adjust. control arms. Much better to play is safe.

That's what I figured. I got the full set on eBay brand new for $310 shipped.
