Had a set but sold them. Wrist pin hole usually needs to be honed out.

OEM use wrist pins varry in OD, fitting the wrist pins in the piston takes some finess, either polishing them a lot or getting parts professionally fit (honed). The variation is with the wrist pins, not the rods, the rods are spot on.

Nah, new ones are probably more consistant than used 140k mile ones!

Mine were tight on a few of them and others were good...

I got some installed in my car and when I took them to the shop they spec'd out perfect. Less than .5 gram in weight difference between all 6 and the bores were dead nutz. They didn't need any work.

Not finding an answer so worth bumping this old thread... are the RPM rods direction specific? I've heard that the IE rods need to have the bearing tangs oriented toward the valley of the block. From looking at the rods, I don't see anything that would make them directional, but want to ask before I install them. TIA.

I needed to have the wrist pins honed, other than that no issues. Also installed them on an RS6 car without an issues minus being honed.

Installed 4 sets, 3 of them lightweight I beams and one H beam didn't need to hone any of them, all of the cars are running strong.

IE recommends tangs face the exhaust side of the motor.

Interesting, since I saw in Jibberjive's thread (he has a downloadable Excel file with specs) that they should face the Intake side (i.e, valley of the block). He did mention that there was some conflicting info on that. Honestly though, I don't understand why it really matters.

As for the comments on honing, the pins that came in my Mahle Powerpack piston set fit fine in these rods.

Were the cranks balanced prior to installing rods?

None of them were balanced whatsoever. One of the I beam'd engine has built 2.8 heads and have surpassed 8500rpm without any issues, that engine now has a fluid dampr on it.

No issues they work fine, a engine hasn't blown up. Last 3 engines got I beams installed. Jason@AMD does our tuning.

I assume the I beams are lighter, do you know by how much ? Which one do you prefer? Thanks

I'm really surprised as I know those RPM I-beams are 24 grams lighter than the stock rods each which is 144 grams total reciprocating mass reduction... As far as I've been told, that type of reduction is definitely crank re-balance territory. I know I had my crank re-balanced for the RPM I-beams and the machinist had to drill out quite a bit more and even weld in a couple areas on the counterweights to get it balanced right. What kind of power are these cars making?

Ebola is running ibeams, gutted, E85, K04's @ 30psi and 30 degrees of timing. Tims car is on XR770's at 36psi, built 2.8 heads, E85, and all the goodies, another is a STK car 5858, another is a SRMK24 car which previously made 524awta and 519awhp on F21's with e85. All cars remote tuned by Jason @ AMD.

Is there a reason the cranks weren't balanced when everything was apart for rods? Just curious.
