Carista app for iOS beta testing [wrench]

I had the opportunity to beta test the Carista app for iOS on my iPhone and iPad this morning. My initial impressions of the app are good from a user interface perspective.

Much easier to enable features compared to VCDS, and more convenient as it uses a wifi connection. When connected, it will take some time before you get to the menu screen. I suspect it needs time to read each control module (similar to how long autoscan takes in VCDS).

As I have previously coded some features using VCDS, Carista appears to recognize which ones are enabled. Will still need to do some comparison testing to confirm which features actually work. Here are some screenshots that I took (some may be cut off as I had to scroll).

I purchased my ELM 327 wifi OBDII interface for ~$16 which I have been using with Dashcommand. *Make sure not to accidentally get the cheaper bluetooth version.*
To make things easier, I use it along with a 1 meter long OBDII flat extension cable so I can see the interface LED's working, and not worry about knocking the wifi interface with my foot.

I only see coding changes. Vcds had additional functions like changing adaptation parameters, changing basic settings (opening e brake for instance), and logging internal ecu measurements that are not available on the CAN bus.

Not saying this doesn't look cool, but interested to see if the features approach vcds. Another big benefit of vcds is being able to work on all Vw/Audi cars, even older ones.

Well it looks to be a nice alternative to vcds for those of us that want to easily be able to make coding changes. Removing the "wink" for example. I signed up for the beta.

To save the Android users some time there's an Carista Android app but it's not in beta and in the Play Store. I got the wireless OBD2 adapter in the mail today - same ELM 327 adapter as the one above except Bluetooth. Paired it up, works perfectly. Carista app works pretty good but some of the code settings seem off. Like it says my auto windows up with long press is on but it's definitely not. If you change any settings and try to save it the app asks for $19.99 for the full version. Would like to see if it could accurately change something before dropping $20 on it so subscribing to see how the iOS users do. Also if you have a fault code and want to read it, $19.99.

Everything is duplicated, and missing half of what everyone else gets as far as options.... Thoughts??? Anyone know who I should contact???

I'm just talking about the Android app, not the iOS app. If the iOS app is currently beta it's probably the full app and you can save your settings or read your codes. But once it's out of beta then that's probably what people are going to have to pay. If he's a nice dev then maybe he'll give the beta testers the full app for testing it, but I've seen it go both ways.

Good point. Generally nothing good can come from the connection getting interrupted while writing to the ECU.

Been running this on my BB and Android using BT. For me all I care about is the simple mods as the app does this automatically for you, and clearing codes / checking codes as mentioned by original DashCommander helps out.

Just downloaded the Android App, I've had this Bluetooth adapter for well over a year and didn't know this existed! Woot! Good thing it's releasing for the iFolk too, otherwise I wouldn't have seen this!

I have a ODBII bluetooth device and use Carista on Android. It's a little finicky- all of the options don't show up every time. If you don't get all the options the first time, rescan and you may get more the next time. It can take a little while to scan. For the 2 times I scanned, I got all of the ones that OP got except the HEAT/AC category. Has anyone actually changed a value successfully w/ the pro version? I'm definitely going to buy if it works. $40 (adapter + software) vs $400 (vcds cable) is a slick deal.

One thing to keep in mind is that the last time this android app was updated was 10/27/14.
