    Intermittent/No Start Condition

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Background:

    '10 Avant 2.0T, 85.3K
Last major mechanical work @ 84K; Stage II oil consumption fix
Last electrical work @ 85.2K; Battery (OEM/ACM) replacement & proper recoding

    Issue:

Car has intermittent start issues, at times a simple jump start will work. This time around, I get nothing but a 'CLICK' sound. I'm pretty sure it's not the battery. I had the battery recoded at a reputable local shop. This is really pissing me off. I've searched the forums and have only come across a couple threads where there is talk of a crank position sensor and a relay.

As it is now, my car is sitting crippled in the parking lot where I work. I'll need a tow truck to recover and drop it off at the dealer this weekend.

Before I take that route though, are there any ideas out there where I could possibly be looking into myself?

    Thanks in advance

    I had a similar issue.
That took the dealer a while to fix. I can check the logs when I get home. Mine wouldnt start, but if i jump it it would.

They did a few things but I think the fix was the ignition module and they added another grounding wire from the battery to the car base in the trunk.

If you have vag-com you can read the battery as you try to start the car and see what's going on, sounds like you might have a bad battery control module. Did it do this before you replaced the battery?

    No VAG-COM yet.

It did this once before, then I decided to replace the battery. I assumed it had gone bad after I had seen it was the original battery after 85K miles.

SDF1, about how much did you end up spending for the repair?

    Damn.

I really hope they find and fix the actual issue(s) at once versus dicking with it and hoping they've solved the issue repeatedly.

    Quick update;

My Avant is up and running, picked it up today from the dealer...with all the relays, modules, and "hi-tech" shit installed in these cars, the starter solenoid failed!

I spoke with the mechanic who wrenched on my car and he said in the 12 yrs he's been working with Audi, he's only had to replace like 3 or 4 starters. Not bad, right?

It took my dealer 3 times till they figured it out.

Tell them to reground the battery ground to the car and check for faults.
    Do you have VAG Cable?

    Also try this.
Connect your car to another car/battery from the hood and try to start the car.
If it starts. Well I have no clue.
    If it doesn't start. Hummmmm
Now unplug the car after 10minutes and try to start the car again. If it starts then you have the same problem I had a 2 years ago. I can send the the contact info to my dealer and let the two head mechanics chat.

Picked up my car today, 10 days later....problem solved---I hope!

Tech spent some time shooting wires, ended up replacing the shit below...

    8K0971228 Alternator/starter harness
    06H911021A Starter (warranty)

So, from what I was told. There was too much resistance in a certain section and mass current draw at another point...yada yada yada

We'll see if this fixes the problem.
