OEM Rear View Camera Retrofit?

Hello Everyone,

I've asked about this before but I'll bring it up because I have been inspired by the 2015 A3 RearView Camera install that I did for a friend. Super easy and worth it. But for our cars its more expensive.

Has anyone tried it?

Multimedia video interface for AUDI A4 A5 Q5 sample price is USD237/PC
multimedia funtion included: GPS + front view and rear view camera input + smart parking guidleine system +2 video input + bluetooth + touch panel for touch screen control
Add rear camera add USD36/PC

I don't have any info about this kit but would love to retrofit an OEM camera if possible it's the one feature I wish I had, I had no need for navi so I opted against it, I'll keep an eye on this thread

Just got a reply from the supplier.
They recommend to get the "D02S-AMI" which is only front and reverse camera module. No need for the bluetooth and all that stuff

USD153/PC + 36 = 189USD + Shipping. That would be worth every penny!

Just noticed that the $189 was with a camera. That is a pretty good price. Shipping would probably be around $40-$50 or so. Still a good deal. Wonder if we get enough orders we can get away from the sample price to make up for the shipping cost.

so instructions seem to fail to mention where to put the cameras (forgive me as im a newb with this type of wiring situation).

either way, id be 100% in for this at that price (as long as it functions reliably)

If you can get one that supports cars with Navi count me in. I couldn't re-use my XCarLink because it didn't support Navi-equipped cars.

I would be in (USA) but really hope that this system is not at glitchy as the xcarlink and similar units.

With xcarlink people seem to get random white/blank screens once in a while along with some grainy video that could be cause by interference. I also saw somewhere where people were putting in-line voltage regulators to control the voltage as this seemed to affect the unit as well.

Shipping would insane if we all shipped to different locations. Could probably get them down to the $128 on each unit with 5-10.

Wonder how much shipping to Canada would be, it might be better to do a split order. 5 shipped to Canada, and 5 shipped to the states.

So,it's confirmed that they have a unit for MMI 3G cars? Might also want to venture into the S4/S5 forums SIMCE the systems are all the same. And some MY2012 cars (like my new-to-me S4) have backup sensors but not cameras.

Although I'm a little confused how the dynamic parking lines and radar function work on this unit? Wouldn't you need to have front and rear sensors in your bumper for radar as well as something hooked up to your steering to get an accurate guideline readout....?

It connects to the CANBUS

I discovered this because it's a huge mod for the new A3 2014+ thread.

Very interesting how these guys keep cranking out cheap knock offs of the evolving technologies. My guess is these units will do what they promise they will do however, I am not very confident that the quality will be much if any better then the XCar link. Quite likely being developed by the same people? Very interested to see how this plays out. The other issue for me was installing the XCar link was a rough experience. Mostly because the first camera supplied by XCar link was defective and my installer had to back peddle to rip everything apart and practically start over. My Xcar Link and Camera has been behaving itself lately as is the camera and trunk handle. I read an article on-line that said by 2018 all cars sold in the US would be required to include a reverse camera as standard equipment.
