RNSE update disc for 2014?

eBay has a bunch of 2013 discs. I don't think a 2014 has come out yet.

I haven't looked for the 14, but I have heard you can download the 2013 disk for $0 on certain torrent sites (burn it to a DL DVD) and they work perfectly fine. ;)

Man those are super expensive and mostly maps of europe.
You can buy a top of the line Garmin for less than the cost of a new Audi DVD.
For that matter my Nuvi 650 from 2006 is more convenient to use since the RNS is non-touchscreen and each letter has to be entered via that awful wheel.

+1. If I could find the current DVD somewhere cheap, I would think about getting it. But it's tough to shell out a lot of money when you're still going to be stuck using a hard-to-use interface. It takes forever to enter in destinations with the wheel.

Not all torrent downloads work perfectly fine, as a Moderator on audiforum.us I've had to help several members who have bricked their RNS-E after trying to update it from a DVD burnt from a torrent - caveat emptor!

I grabbed the 2010-11 NA disc and the only thing that happened was the software didn't properly update, it was stuck as SW: -- for the longest time until I decided to throw the Aux in my car.... I found SW 260 on some thread and burned it alone, loaded/flashed it, then went back to the original rip without a hitch.

After seeing this thread I dl'd the 2012-13 NA DVD, but after reading that some people have bricked their RNS-E i'm a little hesitant to throw it in. How often has that happened?

If you DL the factory disk from a reputable site (with overwhelming positive feedback on the torrent) it works fine without "bricking". It's people who DL crap, have no clue how to burn the dual layer DVD disk that either have a corrupt file or incomplete disk.
I'm not condoning illegal DL or taking any responsibility for anyone messing up their unit so I'm not providing the details.
All I will say is Google, find reputable factory clone, extract burn properly and done..free of charge (it's essentially a replica factory disk without the label).

If you have never used torrents and have no clue how to extract & burn..I wouldn't suggest this route.

Check the hash. Best way to tell if the disc downloaded correctly, then verify after burning.

A lot of luck, depending on where the re-flashing went wrong. If it went wrong early on (in the boot loader?) then it's toast, but if it went wrong later on then usually an older SW version will recover it - but there's no guarantee.

In the 10 years I've been on audiforum.us I reckon there's been a few tens of owners bricked their RNS-E from torrents of which about half have been recoverable.

They have some folks there that upload Audi Nav discs and it seems like they are free, but I haven't gone any further. I too would love to update. I can't seem to eject my current disc though. Not sure if that is something that requires a code or what? The button does not eject the disc.

pretty sure thats no more legal than just downloading it yourself, they are just charging you 50 bucks for doing it instead of you burning it yourself

My eject button didn't work either. Turned out my eject button was disabled. You have to use VCDS and a Ross-Tech cable to enable the button.

They're shipped from the factory with the Eject button disabled to stop the DVD's "disappearing", but as part of the PDI inspection the dealer is supposed to disable the lock.

I just received this disc and I presume it is just a downloaded disc like everyone is stating. It actually has the Audi label on it, so it look like the stock product. So, do I just insert this and it will install the new firmware, etc on it's own or do I have do something different? Thanks!

It may take a while. It did for mine when I changed it to v. 260.

That's correct for the first gen RNS-E, there is no software update if you are currently on 260. The second gen RNS-E gets software 230 with the 2013/2014 map update.

I don't know what generation I have, as the CarFax from the previous owner shows a replacement RSN-E installed at the Audi dealer in July of 2010. I will have to go look and see what SW mine has.

If it didn't update the software and you actually bought a 2013/2014 disc, you have the first gen. If the dealer replaced it, they certainly didn't put in a second gen unit that was never made for these cars.

I don't think it is a OEM 2013/2014 disc. I think mine is a burned version, but it is map version 8P0-919-884-BJ, which is a 2013/2014 map.
