Two more additions to the allroad

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Never put together a build thread for my 13 allroad, mostly because I never intended to do much modding. Well that didn't really last very long. Up until now I have added/modded/changed:

    -20% tint
    -STaSIS tune
    -STaSIS exhaust
    -B8 S-Line suspension
    -Alu Kreuz
    -GFB DV+
    -Avant Garde m310 (20x10, et35)
    -Continental ExtremeContact DWS (275/30/20)
    -R8 coil packs
    -NGK plugs
    -Hoen H11 Endurance fogs
    -Hardwired Valentine 1
    -Various VAG changes

This past week I finally got around to adding both the Alu Kreuz and the GFB DV+ to my allroad. I can't say that I notice much difference with the Alu Kreuz, though that could be because I have lowered the car on a B8 avant s-line suspension and have had the steering software update.

The DV+ though does seem to improve throttle response significantly.

Next in line will be intercooler, e-codes (front and rear), flat bottomed steering wheel, sway bars and a blacked out grill.

I just have to say that I love this car! Every time I get in it to go somewhere there is a smile on my face.

    Thanks!

In re: the Alu Kreuz, I can't say I've noticed a difference either. It's on so I'll just leave it. The S-Line suspension did more for handling frankly, not surprizingly.

Any problems with rubbing on the 20"s?

Not really, not yet anyway. Have a couple from the back corner but they aren't that great to be honest. It's been gray and dreary here too. Not exactly the best picture weather.

No rubbing at all. I even think I could've gone with a 285 series tire.

    Hi Powderskier,
I am putting wheels on my 2014 Allroad but am a dealer that can buy HRE's at a good price. They do not make a 20 X 10" wheel option. Does it appear that your car would accommodate an additional 1/2" in width? If so I will go with the 20 X 10.5.
    Thanks!

I no longer have these wheels on the car. I am currently running a set of BC Racing HB29 (20x9.5, et20) with Continental ExtremeContact DWS (275/30ZR20). On deep compression I get slight rubbing.

The wheels from the pic were 20x10, et 25. I don't recall the tire specs I was running back then other than they weren't the same as I'm running now.

You can run 10.5" wide wheels on an allroad. I just put a set of 20x10.5 et25 wheels on mine.

What are your plans for the blackout grille? This is something I've been battling with on my Allroad.

I plasti-dipped my grille black, looks way better now imo. It was tough to mask the rings especially at the edges. I had to hand paint a few gaps.

Does the S-line suspension drop the Allroad much?

I did the Plasti-dip thing. It looked great initially, then started to lift in a couple areas, and it was beginning to look dirty all the time. I would like to remove the grille and properly paint it, but I'm worried it will just chip all to hell from road debris. That matte gray Tag Allroad had it's grill painted black. I'd be interested to know how it held up. I think I'm done with the plasti-dip. It was a nightmare taking it off the grill. I don't ever want to do that again.

I hate the stuff too. There wasn't another solid option, as the body shop I work with didn't want to paint it because of the chrome pieces... Apparently even after thoroughly etching the chrome, the plastic is thin enough to where it'll flex and cause chipping. A painter at the body shop said he'd done it before and if I wanted it to last, he wouldn't advise doing it. Anyway, I plasti-dipped mine until some aftermarket grille solutions become available. I used just over two cans of the stuff to insure I had solid, lasting coverage. I took my time painting it (a couple hours) and then let it cure for 24 hours before installing. Looks fantastic and is the most thorough plasti-dip job I've done. I will note that unclipping the rings and quattro badge is a good idea for more thoroughness.

Oh yeah, and all of the chrome bits (slats & surround) can be unclipped and removed, but there are TONS of clips.

I did the outside door trims on my b7 s4 that are the same grey as the allroad grill and fender-flares with matt black dip, 6-7 layers, held up very well and looked great imo even after 6 months.
Think it all depends on the amount of layers as well as the distance you're spraying at, had some less successful work done with it as well...

Also did the grill mattblack with normal spray paint, cleaned it but never sanded it, one layer of primer and then 5-6 layers of paint, hold up well over my expectations to stonechips and etc.
Also did one without primer, that didn't hold up at all, one small chip and a big piece of it was missing...

Tho I got the frame of the grille wrapped.

However I would not do a permanent paint-job unless you're 110% sure you want to keep it that way, in that sense plasti-dip is a great alternative, also as long as you get 6-7 layers down its easy to peel off.

You mean because there are like 50 clips holding the bumper which needs to be removed to access the grille? Somehow I got lucky with the plasti-dip and it has held-up so far without having to remove grille. I think if I lived in the snow with salt roads it would not be the case.

Wow I didn't know you can just remove the rings altogether to not have to bother with masking. That would have saved me so much time. Yes we don't have any other options. Keep asking vendors about grilles for Allroad they all say no.
