Intermittent no-start issue

About four times in the past few months my car has decided not to start. It always seems to happen after I've driven the car a short distance (before the oil gets up to temp) and when I get back to the car within an hour or so. I doubt this is related but it's worth noting since it's happened this way every time. Battery reads 12 volts, starter cranks and the engine turns over normally but it never fires. If I just keep trying, after 5-20 minutes, the thing starts up fine like there was never an issue. WTF S4.

My pump definitely doesn't prime when I open my door... It does on my Jetta, but on my S4 it doesn't and I'd definitely know with the 044 pump. I turn my key to on position, let the dash light up and then fire in the hole and I'm always okay. Stephen does the same thing, he doesn't just turn key and let it rip.

That's a good idea.. Sucks that it's not throwing a code. I'll scan his car tonight to see if anything is there maybe a soft code was thrown this time.

On the CPS - next no start VAG it and see if you get RPM rise on crank.

Okay cool.. I've been in the car when it does it, the RPMs deff aren't budging. We can confirm but I'm 99% sure and I think he'd agree that the RPM doesn't move. The car cranks cranks cranks but never turns over. Then randomly 20 mins later it'll start lol

You wont see RPM rise on the cluster. Only in VCDS. All symptoms point to CPS though. If it's never been replaced - probably a good idea to just change it out.

If the cps is not throwing a code then that ain't the issue. Check the icms that was my problem when I had this issue.

9-10 there usually isn't a code thrown by the CPS

I ordered a new CPS, but I won't know if that fixes it until it doesn't happen again.

Just wanted to update with news that the new crank position sensor appears to have solved my issue. The car starts up quickly every time.
