well i have a injen intake on the way and decided to do some mods to the stock air box. i got rid of the snow screen and cut the portion of the scoop that directs air towards the bottom of the air box.

while in there i noticed that there is a sensor hooked up to circular door. this sensor has no wires going to it, does anyone know what the purpose is? (red circle)

also has anyone cut out the circle and run a hose to it (brake air hose) (blue circle)

i am trying to make this car a little more fun/sportier without paying the German tax for parts, so next is the x pipe mod

It's not a sensor. It's a spring loaded trap door to let water out/air in should the box become clogged up somehow. You should be able to actuate it by hand to see how it works.

Before playing with the exhaust do some searching on here. A few have tried it and some have posted sound clips of the results and impressions. If shops in your area are like some are around here the custom work will add up quick.

Is it just me... or ghetto mods on a 50K+ car just doesn't mix. Seriously, reminds me of my 2000 Civic... trying to squeeze 3hp from that B16 with a huge muffler.

^ +1. Also going for the x-pipe on Wednesday. $2.5k on a Milltek or AWE is obtuse, they're grossly overpriced. And while I acknowledge that price is squarely driven by demand, that doesn't mean I need to go and spend that sort of bujah. My car is a toy, not a mistress, I don't need to shower her in diamonds for her to put out.

Xpipe is the best bang for buck mod I've done, even the cheap suspension upgrades don't beat a proper exhaust note (although it's slightly raspy under heavy load ).

a lot of times simple mods can be worthwhile. you don't need to be spending 700 on an intake that really does nothing than increase the supercharger whine. Doesn't matter if you are modifying a Honda or a Audi -- just because you spend $2500 on an exhaust doesn't make you that cooler guy. I built a fully custom carbon fiber icebox on my previous TL Type-S that was better than any other intake option on the market and the cost was next to nothing.

^ Agreed, however, bear in mind that not everyone has the tools or experience working with CF or the wherewithal to learn/fail/reattempt/fail/tryonelasttime/sortasucceed/pay for one instead.

drob23 - The rasp is my only apprehension but for a few hundred bucks I'll give it a shot.

2000S4 - It'll be done tomorrow, I live at Yonge and Summerhill if you ever want to swing by I'd be happy to rev it up for you.

Saxon, I took out the trap door and the only thing I really noticed was an increase in the supercharger whine.

You should try... 3 pounds lighter per wheels vs stock. That will make your ride more "fun/sportier" that any mods your gonna do to that airbox.

    17X4???

I hope you understand that many people here have cheap wheels. This forum is full of VMR, AvantGarde, Alufelgen.

BTW since you insist on keeping the bashing contest alive... I hope you have found the wire for that sensor in the airbox!
