Oil pooling, PCV Block plate and FMIC.....

    Be gentle.

A few weeks ago, my up pipe blew off causing the car to shut down. It's an AudiUp pipe, and perhaps I didn't fasten it tight enough, but it blew off after almost 15k miles with it on there. I was able to get it up and running again (after being embarrassed by a buddy of mine for mis-diagnosing a simple FAIL). When I got home, I took the pipe off and had to clean the oil out of it. The cold side SMIC has some oil pooling at the outlet, so I cleaned that too. Or so I thought.

Yesterday I was recreating what happened to show a different friend, and noticed that there was more oil pooled up at the outlet of the cold side SMIC.

Now, I really have tried to follow the PCV education threads, but call me stupid, I don't/can't follow the theories in the thread. Well don't call me stupid.

I have the BSH 2.0T FSI PCV Revamp on the car right now. I remember reading that this item might cause oil pooling in the turbo/intercoolers/pipes, but can't be sure if this is the reason or not.

So my questions to the community, because there is a ton of knowledge on here:

Do I get rid of the Block off plate and go back to the stock PCV system (for which I will have to buy a whole new set up)? Will any other easy to understand PCV setup be worth it in the long run?

Will removing the SMICs and replacing with an FMIC help as well? If so, how do I not overspend on an FMIC (not too mechanically inclined.....)

These are fairly rookie questions I suppose, and yes, I have searched and read, but when it comes down to it, there is just too much data to parse. Anyone feel like helping me out on this?

Grab one of shane's valve covers. Do a complete PCV delete/re-route and chances are you'll get rid of all oil in the intercoolers, car will run smoother and you'll notice less issues with charge piping. I had the same issues as you, mostly caused by the rear PCV sucking oil in from the VC.

Yeah, I kind of figured it (the valve cover) would do the trick. I don't think I'm ready to drop coin on that yet though. I shall save my pennies.

On a side note, got any NiB BCGs?

Every car pools oil unless you block the port on the Turbo that is connected to the rear PCV port. Inorder to do that you need to vent to atmosphere.

Yeah, I've been neck deep in the Drake cover thread. My problem is that I am OCD WRT due diligence, and have not seen what I am looking for for a car with NO catch can. I have seen no "direction sheet" stating what exactly a car with no catch can needs to run the cover. The covers are now up to $450 (after June 2), but that's my fault, I haven't been on here for a few months. I'm not in a financial position to purchase one right now, so I ask, is the block off plate that BSH sells, that I have on my car, doing damage to my engine?

    1. I have post numerous times on what you need to run to atmosphere, I even made a 3D model on how to do it.
    2. Your BSH block off plate if routed correctly should not be doing any damge.
    3. In Corey's thread he clearly shows how to eliminate the oil problem using a BSH block off plate. It outlines that you need to block off the rear PCV where it connects to the turbo.

So when deleting the rear pcv, does the hole on the VC get blocked off also, or should there be a filter there?

I'm seriously considering a vent to exhaust setup for all this, just haven't quite figured everything out yet. I really like the idea of not having to drain a catch can, yet still having a vacuum on the VC instead of just venting to atmosphere.

In certain cases you have emission testing so some people will jut leave there pipe on and connected but will just block the port at the turbo. I think there is someone here that puts a small cone filter on that port though.

It was JR that did it with the filter. But I think you can just block it.

Yup, I JUST got to that page. Now that you have simplified it to me, I need to order some things and get to

You did. I'm going to tackle the rear PCV first. After doing that, I will revisit for the "T". Am I going to need new hose for that?

I'm assuming you could use your current hosing, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to get new so you can make the proper lengths.

OK. Is there anyone else that makes the block off plate for the turbo, or did IE get the sizing issue corrected?

I'm not sure a think the easiest way to to it is to get some tin(pop can) and cut it to shape. Then use the piece that initially is bolted there but just remove the flex pipe from it.
